Becoming Secret Nanny for Possessive CEO-Chapter 81: Regret
Edith’s premonition about Callum was getting worse. Why was Patrick so insistent on saving Callum? Did Patrick know something about Callum today, even though he hadn’t communicated with him directly? Was this related to the story Patrick and Erdin had shared earlier?
For a moment, Edith pursed her lips and narrowed her eyes. "Patrick, what do you mean? Could it be that Callum is being bullied by Arabella?"
"Edith, I’m telling you this important news only because you’re the only woman Callum loves. Every time he’s been bullied by his stepfamily, he’s always helpless and tries to end his life at home."
Her vision was getting blurry and her body was about to collapse.
"Especially since you’ve been distancing yourself from him lately. He’s feeling even more depressed because no one supports him anymore."
"No. This is all a misunderstanding. I didn’t mean to leave him. I still love him very much."
"Therefore, I suggest you go to him now before it’s too late."
Edith immediately ended the call with Patrick. She then asked Renata to help her babysit her twins while she visited Callum’s house.
Fortunately, it wasn’t long before Renata arrived at her apartment. Now it was Edith’s turn to act swiftly, saving her lover at her home. On the way to Callum’s house, Edith let out a sob, driving her sedan at full speed. She didn’t care that she nearly hit someone else’s car; the most important thing was to save Callum before it was too late.
Upon arriving at Callum’s luxurious residence, Edith ran inside in a panic. The first thing she did was check the pool area, worried that Callum would do something stupid there. However, when she arrived, no one was there. The second thing she did was check the bathroom in their room. Seeing Callum’s sedan still in the garage, Edith was sure that Callum had stayed here after lunch with his stepfamily.
As she entered the bathroom, her eyes widened as she stared at Callum, unconscious, his body submerged in the bathtub, the faucet running. The sight of this made her scream in agony.
"Callum!" Edith ran over to her lover while quickly turning off the faucet and opening the bathtub drain. 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝙬𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝒎
Her cries grew louder as she stared at Callum’s increasingly pale face. With all her strength, she lifted his muscular body out of the bathtub and laid him on the floor. For a moment, she parted his pale lips, breathing into them to bring him back to his senses. She tried repeatedly, but he still showed no improvement. She had also contacted the personal doctor who usually treated Callum whenever he did something stupid.
"Callum, I’m sorry. This is all my fault."
Edith continued to pray for her beloved to return to her. She tried to resuscitate him for a long time. Desperately staring at his stiff body, her cries grew hoarse. She was terrified of losing the man she loved because of her selfishness.
"Cough...cough..."
Callum finally regained consciousness after repeated CPR. Edith stared at him with wide eyes, wiping her tear-stained cheeks.
"Callum, it’s me!"
"Edith..."
As soon as she called his name, Callum fell unconscious again. Edith bit her lip frantically as she tried to help change Callum’s clothes, which were soaked from being in the bathtub for too long.
Twenty minutes had passed, and Callum was now lying in bed with an IV drip on his left arm. Edith had also changed her clothes, having become soaked from saving Callum from near-death. Her face grew paler as she stared at her lover, who remained unconscious, even though there was still so much she hadn’t said.
Meanwhile, the doctor on duty also showed a troubled expression as he stared at his helpless friend. "Actually, I’m also scared to see Callum like this. He’s tried to end his life several times."
"Has he been doing this a lot for the past five years?"
The doctor nodded. "Because he often tried to end his life, I usually gave him sedatives. I also always forbade him from drinking too much alcohol."
Edith gazed at her lover with a wistful gaze, slowly stroking his soft cheek. "He never told me he had such severe trauma. Moreover, I’ve never seen him take any sedatives."
"Ever since Callum met you again, he’s decided he doesn’t want to do anything stupid again. He confidently threw away all the sedatives I gave him so you wouldn’t discover his weakness. He’s always been strong around you so he doesn’t scare you."
"If only he had been honest with me from the start, I wouldn’t have been so cruel. I was so afraid of losing him."
"I’m not at liberty to tell you more details about his life. I want you to hear it directly from him. What’s certain is that my job is to make sure Callum is still alive."
"Thank you for saving my fiancé, Erick."
Erick nodded. "Seeing you in person, I now understand why Callum is so crazy about you. You’re the only woman who truly loves him."
"So, you don’t believe the news that’s spread on the internet?"
"No. In fact, I feel like it’s a trap because Callum would never cheat. He’s always so enthusiastic about talking about you."
Now only Edith remained in the room, still waiting for Callum to wake up. Even though it was getting late, she still waited for her lover to wake up. Edith couldn’t stop crying because of her regret for saying the hurtful words that led to Callum’s end like this. If she had come too late to save Callum, she would have lost the man she loved forever. Now she understood that her selfishness would only hurt the man she loved most.
"Callum, there’s still so much I want to tell you. I hate seeing you act like this. I want you to go back to being the man who was always cheerful in front of me. Even if you feel lonely and have no one to support you, I’m still here." For a moment, her lips landed on her lover’s cheek. "I love you."
