Chapter 87 -87 I Bought a Car_1
Wang Ye and Nalan Yaqi spoke to each other in Mandarin, which Angelina couldn’t understand, leaving her clueless as to their conversation.
Despite this, she seemed in good spirits today, a perpetual smile complimenting her face.
Turning her head, she spotted a long strand of hair on Wang Ye’s shoulder, presumably her own, and quickly reached over to remove it.
Nalan Yaqi caught sight of this small gesture, a surge of resentment washing over her.
Just as she was about to jest, Liu Jun and a Russian employee walked in, deep in conversation.
With all participants now present, the meeting was about to start. Diplomatically, Nalan Yaqi stopped talking. After all, the business at hand was far more critical, and she wasn’t someone who didn’t know how to conduct herself appropriately.
In his capacity as General Manager, Liu Jun commenced the meeting.
First, he provided an overview of the domestic situation, then began organizing the return trip details. These plans had already been discussed and confirmed multiple times privately with Wang Ye.
He was now sharing them with everyone else to keep them informed.
“We will board a plane to our nation’s capital on the 8th in the morning, then take a connecting flight to the capital city of Zhongyuan Province. From there, a vehicle from Yangnan Teacher’s College will meet us at the airport.
Due to the time difference, we expect to arrive in Yangnan City the morning of the 9th.
We won’t have time to rest though, as we have to dovetail our work with Yangnan Teacher’s College on the same day, including preparing for the promotion conference and going through the enrollment procedure.
The official promotion conference starts on the 10th!”
….”
There was a palpable excitement amongst everyone in the Meeting Room. Everyone recognized that the company’s future hinged on the success of this promotion conference!

If it fails, there wouldn’t be much of a future left for the company.
After all, there’s a strong possibility they won’t even have enough to pay next month’s salaries, so the concept of a future seems rather far-fetched.
Wang Dan and Nalan Yaqi, being shareholders of the company, wanted to add their two cents as well, but upon considering further, they didn’t feel the need to supplement anything. After all, Wang Ye and Liu Jun had already arranged everything meticulously.
In the end, they could only wish them all the best and a triumphant return.
Once all official matters were discussed, Liu Jun handed over the airline tickets he had already purchased to Wang Ye, smiling as he said: “We will be departing the day after tomorrow, so everyone should get packed up. Let’s meet directly at the airport, shall we? Don’t worry about those at Friendship University and Moscow University, I’ve already arranged someone to pick them up.”
Wang Ye nodded, accepting the airline tickets, which were for both him and Angelina.
He then stood up and asked, “Is there anything else, or can we meet the day after tomorrow?”
Just as he was leading Angelina home, Nalan Yaqi called out to him.
“Wang Ye, wait, let’s take a taxi back together. I have something that I’d like you to help me take back to China.”
Wang Ye stopped in his tracks and curiously asked, “Take back to China?”
“Yes, I bought a dress for my mother. You guys will be changing flights in the capital, right? My mom can pick it up at the airport then.” Nalan Yaqi explained with a smile.
Who would’ve thought, turns out she’s quite the doting daughter.
Thinking of her mother and buying her a dress.
Of course, Wang Ye had no issues with the request and readily agreed.
Everyone was going the same direction, so Wang Ye, Nalan Yaqi, Wang Dan and Angelina ended up sharing a taxi back to Friendship University.
Nalan Yaqi still lived in Building 6 of the university, which was familiar territory for Wang Ye as his dormitory bed was still there.
As they were getting out of the taxi, they bumped into someone Wang Ye knew well….
……….
“Hey, isn’t that Princess Qi and Dandan? What were you guys up to?”
Zhang Ke flicked his long hair off his forehead striking a pose he assumed looked casual as he greeted the girls.
He pretended not to see Wang Ye but couldn’t help stealing glances at Angelina.
Upon seeing him, Nalan Yaqi made no attempt to hide her disinterest and completely ignored him.
Been the gentle character she was, Wang Dan felt compelled to respond politely to their fellow student, and replied softly, “We were just out handling some business. Are you heading out?”
“Ha, well yes, haven’t I just bought a car? Some classmates want to go to IKEA to buy some things, and I offered to give them a ride.” Zhang Ke bragged.
“Ah? You bought a car?” Wang Dan asked, surprised.
For students, owning a car is a relatively far-fetched idea, especially for those studying in Russia. Their family background is usually not so affluent.
Among the numerous Chinese students at Friendship University, aside from a few who were pursuing their doctorates and had part-time jobs off-campus, no undergraduates owned a car.
Zhang Ke was the first!
“Haha, yes. Just bought it. I figured it’s more convenient to have a car and they’re not too expensive here. So, I just went for it. There, that’s it right there,” Zhang Ke said, pointing to a white sedan parked nearby.
It was indeed a new vehicle, a local Russian brand – Lada. The price was indeed reasonable; you could own a new one for just four to five thousand US dollars.
……….
When it came to buying a car, the endeavor was somewhat related to Wang Ye…
A while back Zhang Ke had been pursuing a girl but had been shot down twice, first by Nalan Yaqi and then by Wang Dan.
He began to introspect, questioning what had gone wrong as both girls didn’t seem interested in him.
He thought with his vast experience, perseverance, and willingness to shell out money for gifts, he was bound to be successful. However, this contradiction was hard for him to swallow in light of Wang Ye’s popularity with the ladies.
Thinking it over, Zhang Ke felt Wang Ye’s side business of selling phone cards had somehow added to his appeal. After all, a hardworking man was certainly more desirable to a woman…
Once someone reaches college, they begin to face the realities of life.
Looks alone were not enough to impress, one needed to prove their potential and capabilities to really stand out…
However, the small business of selling phone cards was beneath Zhang Ke. It was laborious, required him to run all over the place delivering cards whenever someone called. Plus, it barely earned him any money. It was hardly a business worth his time!
If he was to start a business, he needed something more sophisticated!
After some contemplation, Zhang Ke came up with a business opportunity.
It was widely known that hailing a taxi in Moscow could be quite inconvenient, especially for students not fluent in Russian as they were easily swindled by unscrupulous taxi drivers.
What if he bought a car and marketed his service solely to students within the campus?
Since everyone spoke Mandarin, communication would be much simpler, providing a safe and convenient option for students looking for a ride.
Most importantly, not only was this an easy gig, but it also added to his prestige as it showcased his “financial strength” in being able to afford a car!
He took action immediately and gathered the funds necessary to purchase a small Lada car.
Today was his first business order: transporting two classmates to and from IKEA for a total charge of 500 rubles!
In just an afternoon, he could earn 500 rubles. If he kept this up every day, wouldn’t that amount to 1000 rubles a day, and 20,000 rubles a month?
This business was certainly better than selling phone cards!
