Chapter 207: [The Infinite Train] – Degenerate’s Part (17)

"The two children suddenly disappeared when the light appeared—perhaps they were infected by the zombie virus."

A woman’s voice rang out beside Asta’s ear. He remained standing in place, fingers toying with a gemstone, his deep amber eyes unreadable.

The woman paid him no mind. After giving her explanation, she returned to her seat.

Asta didn’t care that Lily and the other child had gone missing. First, his instincts had never liked Lily—he’d always felt something strange about that child.

Of course, he had done his best to protect her. Now that she had vanished, it wasn’t his fault, and there was no reason to feel guilty. As for the other NPC child, Asta had found it odd from the moment it started affecting Aurora’s emotions if it was gone now, all the better.

Thinking this without a hint of concern, Asta sat down, conserving his strength for the next battle. He had searched everywhere and come up empty-handed—he wasn’t particularly clever, and he admitted that. But he also knew this was just the calm before the storm. No matter what, he would fight to the very end with everything he had!

"Sister Aurora, where are you? I brought the baby to find you."

The train car, darkened by soot and ash, carried a chill wind. Lily’s red pinafore dress drew the eye like a splash of vivid blood in the gloom. The child she carried wailed ceaselessly, its cries echoing from one car to the next—so loud and shrill it made one instinctively frown.

[Is this a bug? How did Lily suddenly bring the baby here?]

[It must be her powerful feelings for Aurora being returned—don’t you get it? That’s true love!]

[Lily’s just a cute kid, come on now.]

[But she is obsessed with Aurora, haha.]

[It’s just a baby-bird plotline. A person like Aurora probably makes her feel incredibly safe.]

"Is Sister Aurora... not here anymore...?"

Lily mumbled. The cold wind blew her short blonde hair across her cheek. Tears clung to the corners of her eyes as her grayish eyes drooped slightly, staring at the baby in her arms. She spoke without emotion: "Be quiet."

The child stared at her wide-eyed. Perhaps it was the first time Lily had seen it open its eyes so fully. In its cold gray pupils, her reflection was visible.

Its eyes were enormous—and growing even larger, as if about to consume half its face.

Then everything twisted. The child’s pupils started to writhe. Eventually, two mouths tore open, unleashing even louder, more piercing shrieks. Startled, Lily instinctively covered her ears with both hands.

The child fell to the floor, yet no blood flowed out.

Its three "mouths" continued wailing, its round head bouncing from the momentum. All left was a ball-shaped head with three drooling, screaming mouths.

"Oeeeee! Oe oe oeeeeee!"

Lily clutched her ears with both hands. Behind her—where she wasn’t looking—a massive shadow was squeezing into the train car, inching closer. Its tentacles led the charge, slithering toward her with eerie gentleness.

The tentacles lifted into the air, and their tips suddenly turned razor-sharp, glinting coldly under the dim light.

[Aaaaaaa no Lily run!!!]

[If Aurora ever finds out she’s been cradling that thing like her child all this time, her gentle expression might crack, haha!]

[No idea how that thing even ended up here.]

[Isn’t it gonna eat Lily?]

[Something else must have scared it off, hahaha.]

[Why is no one worried about Lily?! She’s such a sweet kid, please don’t die! Damn monsters!]

[But this is the first time I’ve seen a child that small thrown into a dungeon...]

[Yeah, all the kids before were gods toying with humanity.]

[Why is no one considering that possibility?]

"Oee oe oe!"

Behind Lily, the razor-sharp tentacles—like arrows—were closer than ever. The monster’s crying on the floor grew louder and louder, to the point that the entire train car began to tremble.

"I told you to shut up!"

At that very moment, Lily suddenly turned her head. The sharp tentacles were now less than 3 centimeters from her wide-open eyes.

In that instant, it was as if time stood still. Something inside her churned—and then exploded.

Lily’s eyes turned a vivid crimson. From the center of her pupils, intricate ancient patterns unfurled in a glowing circle, emanating a deadly red light—like fresh blood about to spill.

At the same time, the tentacle nearest her eye exploded, as if disintegrating on the spot!

The red light spread outward. Wherever it passed, everything shattered into fragments.

Though it seemed slow in words, it happened in a flash—within a split second, everything nearby had disintegrated entirely and exploded, and it still wasn’t over.

The crimson light continued spreading forward, and wherever it reached, the hulking black shadow had no choice but to vanish.

The sheer force shook the entire train like it was about to derail, yet not a single sound was heard.

"I hate noise. I hate noise."

Lily muttered. Her red pinafore fluttered in the wind, and her crimson eyes seemed to surge with flowing blood.

She slowly stepped toward the disembodied head bouncing frantically across the ground in a failed escape attempt.

It kept hopping and crying as if begging for its life. It suddenly floated into the air and landed in Lily’s hands.

"Oe oe oe!"

The head wailed even louder, as though this girl had been the cause of its cries all along.

Lily lifted the head with both hands, frowning slightly—then squeezed.

The head instantly burst in her hands. The sound of flesh and blood being crushed echoed. Brain matter spilled out, followed by three eyeballs popping under the pressure.

"Crunch!"

The now-ruined head was tossed to the ground. Silence. Absolute silence.

Lily grinned, her face filled with satisfaction. Raising her blood- and brain-covered hands, she licked them with her red tongue, then turned and walked toward the front car—toward the restroom. Her glowing eyes gradually returned to their usual cold gray.

"Sister Aurora, I’m coming to find you."

The girl’s shadow, cast by the expanding red light and the exploded remains of the monster, stretched far ahead—long and eerily twisted. 𝚏𝐫𝚎𝗲𝕨𝐞𝐛𝕟𝚘𝐯𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝗺

[......]

[??????????]

[Too many question marks to count!]

[Villain! She’s the villain!]

[She just killed the monster—she’s not a villain!]

[But seriously, who is Lily? If there were a human that powerful, there’s no way she’s never appeared in a dungeon before!]

[Why isn’t anyone suggesting she might be a god?]

[What kind of god drinks monster blood?!]

[Doesn’t anyone recognize Lily’s eyes and expression? Even her name feels familiar.]

[...]

[She could be a god. I mean, previous gods didn’t exactly announce themselves with system notifications! I have every reason to suspect it.]

[She looks way more like a final boss than a god!]

[That power is no joke—if she is the villain, humanity’s done for this round!]

[Haha... so we’re finally seeing the monsters’ first win since the gods showed up?]

[She has what it takes to be a god!]

[Is no one paying attention to Lily’s last line? Fine, I’ll light a candle for Aurora by myself.]

[My beloved wife, huhuhu... candle +2.]

[At this point, I doubt anyone would object if Lily were on top, haha.]
