Chapter 82: Building a large gate

The cheering started as soon as Visha made the statement.

The heavy atmosphere that had plagued the pack disappeared. They no longer needed to worry about whether someone would get into the caldera without their knowledge.

Visha watched them celebrate and couldn’t be happier.

When the cheering died down, Chi spoke up, "I have something I want to ask."

The pack looked at her. They waited for her to speak. "Instead of closing off the pass, why don’t we build a gate?"

Murmurs began immediately, not condemning, but agreeing.

There was never any talk about building a gate; they only wanted to plug the hole.

"Why a gate?" Visha asked.

Chi stood, easy-going as always. "Don’t you plan to be a part of the world? We can’t stay in here forever. Ehe pointed to Kaelen. "This guy had already been added. I’m sure we’re going to add more people. Might as well give them a place to walk. We can put a gate at both entrances."

Visha gave a thumbs up. She nodded; it made sense.

She turned to Uri and Xeno, who could make the decision on what they wanted.

"Agreed, it does sound like a good idea. The problem is, we do not know how to make a gate," Uri said.

"Leave that to me, I might have a way." She then walked over to a log to sit. She closed her eyes.

Xeno and Uri diverted attention by talking to the pack about the gate and how to build it.

Visha, with her eyes closed, was looking at the system. She remembered the mall was only partially open. She didn’t believe there wouldn’t be anything she could use. She decided to take a look.

This was the first time she opened it since the upgrade.

[System Mall is currently offline]

[Connect to Celestial Waypoint for full access]

Celestial waypoint? What the hell is that?

Visha shook her head; she didn’t want to think about it right now. There are too many variables in this world. She only needed to live her life. If she is meant to know these things, then she will. If not, she doesn’t need to know.

Visha sat there looking at the multiple greyed-out options. She didn’t know what to do now. She searched until she found a small, unassuming icon. It said [Local cache].

When she touched it, she saw the options it offered [Basic crafting] and [Fundamental agriculture].

She checked the section on basic crafting and searched ’gate’.

[Simple wooden gate]- a basic gate with wood and vines

[20 CP]

[Basic reinforced gatehouse]-a stone gatehouse with a reinforced door and a primary locking bar

[250 CP]

[Iron barrier]-a complex gate of interlocking metal bars

[Locked: Requires basic metallurgy and forge blueprint]

Neither the first nor the second options weren’t a good fit. They needed to ward off enemies. A simple gate wouldn’t work, and the one using metal is even harder to do, since they wouldn’t have what was needed to make it.

Her eyes kept moving from the price of the gate to the amount of CP she had. She didn’t have much and wanted to keep them for a later date. But no one, including herself know what to do.

[Continuity Points (CP): 325]

She could give the basic principles, but that didn’t mean she could make a good one.

A house was different. As long as it’s strong enough, even if it doesn’t look good, it can last. But something to defeat enemies, she wouldn’t want guesswork on her side.

She searched the system looking for something that could help. She found something called [Tools of the Founder]. The options inside were definitely what she needed. She decided to get the [Blank Knowledge Crystal].

It reminded her she still had the knowledge shards and lore fragments she hadn’t looked at. Again, she threw them to the back of her mind.

She used the CP to get the reinforced gate blueprint and bought the knowledge crystal, which brought her total to 300 CP. She now had 25 CP left.

She sighed, thinking she worked hard for the CP and now it’s all gone. She still hasn’t gotten the reward for the territory mapping. It has been stuck at 99% and won’t move.

Again, another thing she didn’t want to think about now.

Placing the information inside the crystal would require the use of essence. Visha wasn’t sure how to use it, so she asked the system if it would help. This cost her another 5 CP, leaving her with only 20.

She felt sad being this poor. She cheered herself up by telling herself that more tasks would come.

Opening her eyes, she went to the pack members, asking everyone to gather around.

She held out the crystal for everyone to see.

"This crystal now has the knowledge for making the cement and how to make a gate. All you have to do is touch it, and you get the information," Visha said.

She saw the confusion on their faces, but she didn’t allow them to question it. Uri and Xeno were the first to accept it. Xeno’s surprised face and Uri’s half-smile were more than enough to convince everyone else.

One by one, they came up to touch the crystal.

The knowledge was theirs now.

She was glad to have the crystal, especially since it was reusable. If there was any other information they wanted to know, she could get it from the system, put it on the crystal, and give it to them.

Since all of that was done, Visha now had to tell them about the problem of making the gate.

She cleared her throat, "I’m glad everyone is excited, but there is something I have to say." Everyone stopped discussing. "I don’t have enough binder-reed for us to make the gate. Someone would need to go back to the grotto to get some." 𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖

The originally cheerful atmosphere halted.

"Just thought you needed to know. I’m sure your leaders will have great ideas about how we would be able to get it." As soon as she said this, she sped off to her house, both to wash up and get away from everyone’s penetrating gaze.
