Chapter 209: Arrival at the valley

A day has passed since the four left. The convoy was now about to enter the valley. The enthusiasm of everyone was sky high. Their smiles were wide. They couldn’t stop their bodies from jittering.

The trio felt their excitement; it was contagious. If they weren’t excited before, they would definitely be now. But, as per their status, they could only pretend to be calm.

The final turn brought with it a sight they had half expected to see. They had hoped they would arrive early enough to find information. They had also hoped they might be overthinking.

The crowd now showed it wasn’t their imagination.

Many tribes have come seeking answers. Their ideas were the same as the River Clan, the Stone-horns tribe, and the Spiritfang tribe. Get here early to get answers.

The loud chatter and laughter of other tribes brought a complex string of emotions. Visha thought the only ones who might know something were the people at the top. The Mammoths, the Condors, and the Panthers.

If others knew, they would most likely be tribes close to the ruling tribes. Still, Visha didn’t dwell on it. If there were a reason, it would be figured out one way or another.

As they stepped into view, the other tribes turned to look. There were many different tribes. Some had half-shifters, some did not.

It was clear which tribes treated half-shifters like a plague. They refused to interact with the half-shifters in the tribe. Even if they occasionally spoke to the ’normal’ beastmen, it was only for brief periods.

It was as though they thought being in contact with half-shifters would bring them harm.

Visha’s group didn’t particularly care. Most of them were people who had seen the world. They understood that many tribes did not take kindly to half-shifters.

The valley itself was beautiful. Spring was coming to an end. So a lush green and the scent of damp earth filled the space.

Visha noticed a massive gate. One similar to what they had in the caldera. It sectioned a portion of the valley. So she was unable to see what was inside.

But outside, with the large number of people, there were distinct scents and sounds. People milled around, and the smell of roasted meat came from various directions.

"This is where we part ways. If you have any questions, you can come find us."

This was the agreement. Though they are allies, the Spiritfang tribe are unknowns. Though they can help them find allies, it will be seen as a weakness.

Visiting a tribe to trade is different than looking for allies. Trading was simply an introduction. If the business could be concluded, it was your own merit.

As for finding tribes to ally themselves with, that was entirely up to them.

So as soon as the River Clan and the Stone-horns spoke, they waved goodbye to the Spiritfang tribe and found their own allies.

"We need a place to stay. There are still 6 suns before the festival should start. We should secure a space."

Uri gave instructions. They split up into groups to find a space that could accommodate them. They did not search long before they found one. It was a relatively large space between two tribes.

One tribe had a number of half-shifters. The other was females and beastmen. The beastmen lounged around while the females worked. Visha saw it and wondered briefly if the females were slaves.

But she didn’t see any slave brand. The way they walked around the beastmen, it was certain this was a way of life for them. She shook her head. She wasn’t a saviour.

The tribe placed their goods on the ground. The things that were in the cart stayed there. They did not attempt to move them.

Their gazes were curious.

"Don’t do out yet. Observe first, then decide where you want to go."

Xeno sent this as a pack link. There were many beastmen here. Some have particularly sensitive hearing. Even if they didn’t say anything of importance, it was best if no one heard anything about their plans.

The tribe nodded and began to unpack. They took in the sights and sounds.

Just as they were observing their surroundings, others were observing them. This was their first time seeing a tribe full of so many half-shifters.

"Never seen them before. Where do you think they’re from?"

A beastman spoke loudly, obviously wanting them to hear.

"Are they looking for a fight?" a tribe member asked through pack-link.

"If they are, I don’t mind," another responded.

"Don’t rush to fight. Wait until things escalate. Take them down with one hit. They aren’t your match."

Xeno gave his orders. He wasn’t in the mood to fight these kinds of people. But if there were people in the pack who wanted to, it was up to them.

"They don’t even dare look up," another beastman shouted.

The tribe continued to unpack without looking at anyone.

Suddenly, a group of beastmen walked up to them. They were tall and muscular. The smirk on their faces showed they were used to being arrogant.

"Worthless half-shifters. This is our space. Go find another one."

No one paid attention to him, only speaking in hushed tones among themselves. Other tribes nearby stopped to watch the commotion. This was entertainment for them. A tribe that couldn’t protect itself was nothing in their eyes.

They were waiting for the tribe full of half-shifters to be beaten.

The arrogant beastman walked up to one of the tribe members. The arrogant beastman reached out to shove him. Everyone expected to see the half-shifter fall.

Instead, the half-shifter caught his hand and pushed him away.

"Don’t start trouble," said the half-shifter.

It was a warning to the arrogant beastmen. The only warning they decided to give them. If they didn’t take heed, then they would fight.

Of course, the beastmen didn’t listen. They came specifically because they saw that this tribe didn’t respond. They thought they were weak and easy to pick on.

The arrogant beastman shifted, and so did his companions.
