Beast Evolution System: Devourer of Heaven-Chapter 286: Nightmare End
As more fragments of themselves merged back with them they felt themselves grow stronger.
The bodies they were inhabiting however found it hard to bear the weight of their strengthened souls.
He knew if this continued they would break down before this nightmare was over. So he made sure to no longer merge any other fragments with these ones.
While they were testing the limit of their strength the herald appeared. Ved smelled a familiar scent.
It was like his dream mist but with more corruption and rot. He looked to the distance and saw it.
A winged humanoid creature that looked like a rotting demon. " Is that from resident evil?" He asked.
He couldn’t be sure after all, resident evil was a franchise with many terrifying creatures. The red skinned creature grinned at him.
" It recognises us." Naledi said with a grim voice.
" Of course it does, our souls haven’t changed."
The creature the herald assumed had the power of a rank 5 zombie. Ved knew the two of them stood no chance whatsoever.
Before the herald could attack, four humans appeared. A woman and three men, each with projection realm power.
" I recognise them." Naledi whispered.
" You do?" He asked with surprise, he thought she didn’t bother learning about others people.
She raised her eyebrow. " Of course I do, they’re my subordinates you know? In case you forgot, after that fire bastard disappeared the entirety of Africa was left as my domain.
Matter of fact, the rulers of Australia also made their nation a vassal state of mine. I might not be active in my kingdom as you are at yours but I am an actual queen too."
He giggled, " I thought you humans didn’t have kingdoms anymore, democracy and all that."
She laughed, " Surely you’re joking, democracy would need people to have equal power.
Tell me, if I decided to subdue the entirety of the human race, how many do you think could stop me?"
He thought about and she was right, it would take all of the top humans to stop her, voices would never be equal in a world where one person hold enough power to sink an entire continent casually.
" While we might call it a democracy, that’s in name only, the truth is, a few of us are the rulers of the world.
I mean in your case you rule the entire beast race, the only two beasts with enough power to oppose you chose to submit to you.
One loves you as a little brother and the other even want to sleep with you." She grinned at him when she said the last part.
He felt his spine turn cold. " You know nothing is going on between me and Linglong right? Right?"
She giggled, " Relax, I know, which is why I pity the poor girl, loving somebody who can’t reciprocate because his crazy fiancée will kill him must suck."
She sighed, " But I’ve seen it in her eyes, while what she holds for you isn’t truly love, not in the way I love you, she does want you."
He shook his head. " What Linglong want is a child, not me."
She nodded, " Perhaps but she want your child and as a woman myself I can understand her desire for children she can’t have, it’s painful
I felt like that when I lost you before, knowing I will never have you or children in my life almost broke me, I’m glad I was wrong."
He realised the mood was turning somber. " Let change the topic, after all it seems our friend is turning red from rage."
She looked at the herald whose ugly face had contorted with rage. " Isn’t that just his skin colour?" She asked.
" Oh yeah you’re right, that’s just how the ugly bastard looks." The herald roared, he had never been disrespected like this.
Even Jonathan looked at the two of them with amazement. Even in a situation like this they had time to discuss unrelated issues, the king and queen were as impressive and fearless as rumours say.
" By the way, you said you know them, who are they?" He asked her.
" Those two are the Jobe brothers,Mbuso and Spha. The other two are a couple.
Patriarch and Matriarch of the Dlomo household. They’re all newly risen projection realms or rather they were when he met. Aira is the one who assigned them to guard this town."
He nodded, " I thought you didn’t recognise this town."
She looked at him. " I do now."
" I’m guessing they’re the ones who thwarted the zombie invasion in the real world" he said.
The herald kept looking at them without attacking then the four projection realms attacked him.
However when they did Ved realised an issue. They were strong, incredibly strong to the point they could match his real self in terms of pure power.
However they didn’t have intent or images which reduced the effectiveness of their strength. " I see, Jonathan imagined projection realms with God like power but he didn’t understand where that power comes from.
As a mere rank 3, an untalented one at that, he can’t comprehend the concept of images and intent, I doubt he even knows about laws.
As physically powerful as they are, their wills aren’t as powerful and without intent, they won’t be able to deal much damage to the herald." He whispered in a grim tone.
Naledi nodded agreeing with him. " Good thing they have your weapons." She said. He nodded, he didn’t replace their vessels though.
However he infused them with his dream mist, Naledi followed by coating them with her divine flames.
They didn’t even need to move to do that, courtesy of his power to manipulate dreams. With his will getting stronger after merging with other fragments, doing something like that wasn’t too hard.
The herald finally took the four humans seriously, he roared and the undead rushed towards the city wall like waves.
However the two of them did not panic. While the human army was outnumbered they had weapons that can kill the zombies with a single attack.
That included their bullets, one thing was a fact though. This wasn’t the type of nightmare that can be cleared.
Jonathan’s fear of an endless horde made them impossible unless the fragment of the herald in this nightmare was killed.
But as strong as those four were, they couldn’t kill the herald. Even with the power of Ved and Naledi given to them.
The best Ved could hope for was holding out until sunrise which didn’t seem like it was going to be too hard. 𝒻𝑟ℯℯ𝑤𝑒𝑏𝑛𝘰𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝒸𝑜𝘮
The three of them sat on top of the wall and watched the action below. The herald was fuming with rage but there was nothing it could do.
Just like that, time passed and the sun rose. The nightmare crumbled like a puzzle being undone.
" Well Jonathan, it seems we were able to keep my queen’s promise and keep you alive, good luck in your worthless life."
