Barbaric Spouse, Descry the Night's Lure-Chapter 156: Scene CLVI
Thankfully, it was only in his wife who Aslak could discern and find concern. Therefore, her pale demeanour did not go unnoticed by his usual indifference, for to the man, recollections of Ewelina’s hazards during their journey were still as vivid as his pride was for her good performance before the gruesome path they crossed.
“... Did you think those small creatures were fully grown?” — The man asked, entertained.
“Those were not small in anyone’s eye but husband’s.”
“Haha. Wife’s odd.” — Thinking her sayings were stretched, Aslak laughed at her quick response. — “Those were small however you see it.”
“...” — Still concerned, Ewelina kept silent, contemplating on his sayings and yet not finding sense to them as in her memories... many of the beasts encountered were bigger than herself or her spouse. At times doubling or triple their size.
While recalling, the amber of his eyes naturally drifted to fall on the wife, conscious of her ponder. Eventually uttering a suggestion he was not completely sure of... yet believed would be good for his lung to consider.
“... Fatædi.” — Aslak nicely addressed Ewelina so her head would lift and meet his gaze. — “Should you learn how to use a blade?”
“... M-may I?” — Awestruck by the question, Ewelina’s eyes widened, uncertain again if it was alright for herself to learn such skills. — “I... truthfully, I had not thought of the possibility... for I am a woman... and compared to those born at husband’s lands... I am the weakest there is.”
“... Wife’s weak physically only.” — Scrouching his expression, Aslak said with dislike to her statements. — “I can protect my Fatædi, so I don’t like the idea.”
“Haha~ If so, then why is my spouse suggesting this?” — Moved by the intentions in his words, Ewelina giggled, peeking from below at the man who had halted their walk to say this.
“I still want you to be able to protect yourself... only in case my axe is far.”
“... that is a wise wish my barbaric spouse has.”
"Is it?"
"..."
Understanding the severity his frowning gaze conveyed while suggesting something he honestly disliked, Ewelina thought tranquil. Taking the moment of stillness to breathe in and also convey her thoughts with honesty. — “Husband’s reluctance... I comprehend it.”
“... You do, Fatædi?”
“Yes... On my part, whenever I saw husband go against the beasts... my stomach tightened and my chest suffered from concern you would be harmed... However, awareness of my spouse’s strength aided myself to find slight reassurance that such a feat for a beast would be never granted.”
“Hmph. That’s right. I’m not to be defeated.” — Proud his chest puffed, allowing her serious demeanour to soften as she recalled the nausea the neverending concern brought to her being. Quickly returning to her downcast demeanour, for it was time for her to tell what she believed could concern her husband.
“... Yet if I were you, husband... such concern would not find reassurance in this wife.”
“...”
“I am not as slightly as strong... and wielding a weapon... it has never been in my mind. If I were to be on my own before danger... harm would not have mercy and reach me until it grants my death.”
“.....”
A deep scowl was carried by the man unbeknownst to the woman, who while ashamed of herself lowered her head, regretful of having no other truth than that one told.
Nevertheless, his silence summoned a squeeze from his hand that even then did not lift Ewelina’s crown... therefore it was the following growl that made it so her brown eyes would meet his.
“I didn’t say you would ever be on your own.” 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝓮𝒘𝙚𝙗𝒏𝙤𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝒐𝙢
“ah... well that was...”
“Why would you die if I’m near. Don’t ever say that, woman.”
“! Husband, your grip...”
“!... Sorry.”
“... It is alright.” — Preventing his hand from releasing hers out of surprise, Ewelina, placed her other hand on it, stroking it sweetly so his frown would soften. — “Husband always says to tell whenever it hurts, and I have done so... yet it does not mean I wish your touch to retreat.”
“... A’ight...”
Low in energy the response from the man was lovingly observed, becoming fonder of the intentions hidden behind his actions and intertwining once more their fingers, Ewelina decided to ignore the public eye and lean on the man’s side.
“I would like it.”
“What.”
“I would like to learn to wield a blade... so even if I drift slightly, my husband will be reassured harm will not as easily reach me before he comes to my aid.”
“... It’s still odd you can’t go against beasts when you easily growl at me.”
“!? Different it is.”
“Ou... It is. Other beasts wouldn’t let you, Fatædi.”
“Sigh... impossible man.”
The tease of the man joined her sweetness. And her head went back to rest on his arm, pleased that between them an agreement had been reached. Without discussion or misinterpretations to turn them bitter like it had occurred earlier.
The stroll resumed with the man pleased by her comfortable weight and her indifference to act properly as she would always remind him.
“A blade or a child’s axe. Which does wife prefer?” — Serious, he asked then. Unaware that the child’s mention could offend Ewelina’s pride.
Nevertheless... She perceived his interest and ignorance at what had slightly bothered her. Forfeiting her discomfort... while also telling it so he would not use it as a tease.
“... As our people use axes... A child’s axe it will be what I choose.”
“A’ight-”
“However... do not call it a child’s... this wife also has her pride, inconsiderate man...”
The pout of the woman made the man gain colour out of worship. Her youth and essence were the bliss for his air and heart, which raced selfishly to her sight and strengthened its sound, so it was only her voice that would reach his ears.
“... wife dislikes it?” — Leaning so the glint of her pure eyes could be watched from closer, Aslak smirked at the adorable wife fixed to his side. Receiving her shy nod, refined by her mellow demeanour. Inviting him to briefly graze his cheek against the curly fur of Ewelina and sigh deeply from the conflicting like the scene was for his being that did not know how to tame the impatience to squeeze her in his arms.
“I want the promise to be paid.”
Lastly, he mumbled to the soft fur of the woman... determined on going back to their chambers so her warmth could be enjoyed as she had agreed upon leaving their privacy.
