Back To The 80s-Chapter 336 - 346: Trouble_1
Ji Xiangdong simply smiled, remaining silent. However, a ruthless glint flashed deep in his eyes. He was thinking; anyone wanting to meddle in his business would need to be qualified first. While lost in thought, he picked a piece of honey tribute candy from an oil paper bag on the table and popped it into his mouth. He was growing fond of the sweet osmanthus flavor.
After the sixth day of the Lunar New Year, Gu Xiaobei and his family began to pack their luggage to return to the city. The belongings they had brought were already taking up three bags - returning may fill up to six. Just the clothes for the two children filled up three large bags. Xiuqing spent the two months making clothes, knitting sweaters, shoes and making cotton jackets and capes for the children. Such small-sized items surprisingly took a large amount of space.
Looking at the mess, Xiuqing, after persuasion from Lu Songyuan, decided to join the Chens on their trip to the provincial city. Songyuan would follow up with them after retiring in March.
Running his fingers through his hair, Lu Aiguo lamented, "Without all this hustle and bustle, our house is going to feel empty once you leave."
Songyuan responded, "Now you are free, my boy. Remember to behave yourself, follow laws, and lead a peaceful life with Fang Jing."
Aiguo looked aggrieved. "Dad, Fang Jing is so tough. It’s me who needs your sympathy. Without you, my last support is gone. I will surely suffer bullying from her."
Jing chuckled and gave him a playful punch, "Can you stop being this glib?"
"Once Yueyue starts school summer holidays, feel free to visit us in the G Province where the summer weather is cool," Xiaobei said to Jing with his usual friendly smile.
Aiguo felt suddenly sad and bitter about the impending departure. "Isn’t it still a few days away before you guys leave? Saying your goodbyes now will take days! Aren’t you tired?" he whimsically laughed.
Just when everyone was chatting happily, Lu Ruixue showed up, her face marred with fresh bruises.
Lu Aiguo looked at the wounds on Ruixue’s face. His face turned gloomy, but he kept quiet.
As soon as Ruixue entered, the chatter ceased instantly. Everyone looked silently at her. She pursed her lips and murmured, "Mom, Dad, I want to divorce Chen Dajun."
Aiguo asked, "Are you serious this time?"
Ruixue hesitated slightly, then gave a weak nod.
Looking at Ruixue, everyone knew that, deep down, she still owned his heart.
There is a saying that marriage is like a shoe, if it’s comfortable or not, only the foot knows. But in Ruixue’s case, she preferred to wear small shoes with blisters all over her feet than to take them off. In other’s eyes, instead of a gorgeous Cinderella slipper, her ordeal was more comparable to crude straw sandals.
Seeing the silent room, Ruixue hurriedly said, "I mean it. I don’t want to continue with Chen Dajun anymore. Aiguo, Xiaobei, could you please talk to him about divorce."
Lu Aiguo shook his head upon seeing Ruixue was still trying to use them to scare Chen Dajun. "We can’t handle this for you. You should sue him in court. Plus, Xiaobei and his family were about to go back; they are quite busy these last few days."
Ruixue didn’t feel like making a scene anymore. Recently, she had suffered too much from Chen Dajun, especially after he had squandered all his cash and then blamed her for their loss. He forced her to go home and get more money. She thought that if her brothers could scare Chen Dajun, he would calm down. These days, he had dared to mistreat her because of her conflicts with her family. He used to spoil her like a princess.
Songyuan sighed deeply and said, "Ruirui, look at your life now. Can’t you live without this man?"
Ruixue stayed silent for a long time before finally answering, "But I am carrying his child. What could I do without him? He can easily find a new woman after the divorce, but how could I survive with a kid in tow?"
"You have hands and feet to work. If you’re willing, you and your child won’t starve to death," Aiguo replied, annoyed.
Ruixue kept silent, as Xiuqing sighed deeply. She couldn’t bear watching her daughter tolerate all this humiliation. Yet, witnessing Ruixue’s weak and yielding character, she also felt hopeless.
Fang Jing, always fast and straightforward in talking, said, "What are you afraid of? You’re still young. After the divorce, you will definitely find someone better than Chen Dajun."
Ruixue retorted dismissively, "Then why don’t you divorce my brother and find someone better?"
Fang Jing was so taken aback she almost fell and glared at Ruixue. What an ungrateful girl she was, not recognizing well-meaning words when she heard them!
Xiaobei realized that standing by and minding her business was a wise choice. Since she was not related to Ruixue, she didn’t need to worry about it.
"Get out!" Aiguo yelled, pointing at Ruixue. "Get the hell out. Even if Chen Dajun kills you, you deserve it. Go!"
Ruixue was startled and looked at Songyuan and Xiuqing. Seeing her parents not saying a word, her eyes filled with tears. 𝑓𝘳𝑒𝑒𝓌𝘦𝘣𝘯ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝑚
Aiguo held Ruixue’s arm and dragged her out.
When Aiguo came back, Songyuan sighed deeply. "Aiguo, when your mother and I move to the city, you’ll have to keep an eye on your sister in secret. No matter how ungrateful she is, she still is your sister."
Angry and frustrated, Aiguo answered, "I can’t bear her. Didn’t you see the way she treats us? She defies us when we are kind to her, yet she can’t bear to leave that beast Chen Dajun even though he treats her horribly."
Xiuqing opened her lips and sobbed, "It’s all my fault. I failed to bring her up properly."
Aiguo gestured dismissively, "Okay, Mom, let’s face it. Even with the best upbringing, Ruixue would end up like this because of her low IQ. Let’s ignore her. When she’s had enough, she will understand."
...
The ninth day of the Lunar New Year arrived in the blink of an eye. The house help, Mrs. Li, prepared a lot of food for the journey. She wiped her tears and uttered, "I have been with this family for so many years, I cannot bear to part."
Aiguo sighed deeply. This had been happening for the last three days. Every day, they said their farewells once. Li Aiyi cried once every time, the whole family had to comfort her every time, emotionally stressing them all out.
Xiaobei pat Mrs. Li’s back. "Don’t worry. If you miss my mom and us, you can come to G Province. We’ll leave you our address." This sentence had been hopefully repeated for three days, but today, it sounded particularly nostalgic.
Mrs Li nodded, tears streaming down her cheeks, "Ms. Wen, you have to take care of yourself. Don’t keep everything to yourself. If there’s anything you want to say, just say it. Look at your two daughters-in-law, they’re both good-natured. Even if you say something wrong, they won’t take it to heart. If you keep things to yourself, it can cause illness."
Xiuqing also had teary eyes and kept nodding her head.
Fang Jing was wiping her tears too. Aiguo pulled Jing aside and whispered, "Can’t you just stop crying? With you crying round the clock, aren’t you worried about flooding the house and causing it to collapse?"
Jing glared at Aiguo with her red, tear-streaked eyes. What an annoying man he was. Even at this sorrowful time, he was cracking jokes. Besides, she had gotten along with Xiaobei well over the last few months. It was not easy for sisters-in-law to bond like this.
