Back To The 80s-Chapter 314 - 324: Release_1
Gu Xiaobei believed that this was all Yuan Qing’s doing, no one else to blame. Having Qin Ximei as her mother, who served as a bad role model, completely ruined the child’s future.
However, Gu Xiaobei was also curious if Bai Xiaolan didn’t recognize Yuan Qing and couldn’t help but ask: "You don’t know Yuan Qing?"
Bai Xiaolan blinked and replied: "No, I don’t. Our household is part of the air force’s compound, while they belong to the army’s compound. Children from both sides don’t interact. Because my dad and Uncle Lu are close, we got to know each other. But aside from that, we only know that they are kids from the compounds, but not their names."
"Oh, so you guys have separate cliques?" Gu Xiaobei jokingly remarked.
Bai Xiaolan nodded in agreement: "Yes, we do. Those were chaotic years, and no one was serious about their studies. All we seemed to do was fight. If we weren’t stealing persimmons from their side, they were stealing pears from our air force’s compound. The adults were all busy and didn’t have time to supervise us."
Gu Xiaobei remembered these similar scenes from old TV dramas and found them very interesting, so he started discussing them with Bai Xiaolan.
Bai Xiaolan, by nature, liked to talk. She was more than willing to discuss her experiences with Gu Xiaobei.
As their lively conversation resonated through the living room, Wen Xiuqing was in her room, holding Little Mo Wang. The more she looked at Mo Wang, the more she felt like he was her elder son. A feeling of suffocation welled up within her, with no outlet to release.
As if making a big decision, Wen Xiuqing, holding Mo Wang, came out of her room and said to Gu Xiaobei: "You and Xiaolan, watch the children at home, I will be out for a while."
Gu Xiaobei paused, then quickly nodded, letting Bai Xiaolan hold Mo Wang as Wen Xiuqing fixed her hair before leaving the house.
Once out of the house, Wen Xiuqing headed straight for Qin Ximei’s home.
In recent days, Qin Ximei had lived in fear. Whenever Yuan Dahai remembered the situation, he would beat her. Qin Ximei was now covered in bruises, her eyes deeply sunken in, and she seemed to have aged over a decade overnight.
Upon entering Qin Ximei’s house, and seeing Yuan Dahai wearing a black face, Wen Xiuqing ignored him and went directly into the inner room. There, seeing Qin Ximei lying in bed, looking ghostly pale, a cold smile tugged at Wen Xiuqing’s lips.
Taken by surprise, Qin Ximei stared at Wen Xiuqing. Everywhere on her body ached from the beating, and she could only lie in bed all day.
Now, witnessing Wen Xiuqing entering her room, and taking note of her peculiar expression, Qin Ximei asked with a touch of surprise, "Xiuqing, what brings you here? Please, have a seat."
Wen Xiuqing didn’t sit down. Instead, she stood straight where she was. She hadn’t expected Qin Ximei to look so broken. But better she look this way. After watching Qin Ximei silently for a while, she finally began slowly, "Ximei, how long have we known each other? Thirty-five years, isn’t it?"
Not knowing why Wen Xiuqing was bringing this up, Qin Ximei nodded awkwardly. Sitting up, she watched Wen Xiuqing uneasily.
Wen Xiuqing faintly smiled and continued, "Thirty-five years... Haven’t you spent all these years scheming to bring me down? Just look at what you’ve brought on yourself."
Qin Ximei remained silent, her head bowed. She didn’t know why.
Wen Xiuqing went on, "I know why. It’s because you despise me. You despise me because I married Lu Songyuan, not you, right?"
Qin Ximei raised her head in alarm and quickly denied it, shaking her head, "No, no, that’s not true. You can’t just make false accusations like that."
"Making false accusations, am I? During the war of ’48, when Songyuan was injured, I was his primary doctor while you were merely the head of Women’s Aid Society supporting the frontline. That’s when you started to desire Songyuan, but unfortunately, you were too late. I married Songyuan, and you settled for Songyuan’s guard platoon leader, Yuan Dahai."
Seeing Wen Xiuqing unveiling her painful past, Qin Ximei was both embarrassed and angry, "What nonsense are you talking about? Am I the kind of person you’re describing?"
A cold, scornful smile crossed Wen Xiuqing’s face, "Don’t rush, let me finish. Later, we, coincidentally, ended up living in the same village. After you lost your son, you started resenting me. You resented me for taking away Lu Songyuan, and for producing a pair of twins. Regrettably, I was blind then, and failed to recognize people rightly, or else I wouldn’t have allowed you to kill my Aid to Korea."
"You’d ask why, even though I knew, I was still nice to you, right? Actually, I wished to kill you with my own hands. But I didn’t want my hands to be stained with filthy blood and didn’t want my children to have a murderer for a mother. So, I spent my days in remorse and guilt while you slithered beside me like a poisonous snake. For the sake of stopping your schemes and making your end worse, I tolerated you for thirty years."
"Do you want to know how I found out? Because you were too anxious. When I lost Aid to Korea and was almost driven to mad grief, you ended up giving me small pills in the name of concern. You called them sedatives, but sadly, you forgot that I’m a doctor. How would I not recognize that what you had given me were opium pills used by folk healers to treat pain? Out of fear of Zhan Guo being harmed, I let Zhan Guo’s grandfather take him away. But I stayed to retaliate against you, relishing the thought of watching you land an ill-fated ending," said Wen Xiuqing, suddenly bursting into tears. The bottled-up bitterness of all these years was unbearably harsh.
Surprised by the revelations, Yuan Dahai, seated in the outer room, came to a sudden realization that for all these years, he had been a complete fool.
Qin Ximei covered her mouth, not daring to believe what she was witnessing from Wen Xiuqing.
The cold smirk on Wen Xiuqing’s lips deepened, "I am of a bad class status but it was reported by you, right? Unfortunately, you failed to foresee that your daughter was able to study abroad because of my teachings."
Stunned, Qin Ximei stared at Wen Xiuqing and muttered, "Yuan Ye and Tantan were urged by you to study abroad?"
"I merely taught them that as young women, they should rely on their own strengths to get what they want. That’s why I let them do whatever they desired while being strict with Ruirui and Aiguo, allowing the Yuan sisters’ to be complacent with their petty schemes."
"I knew that being raised by a rotten melon like you, their seeds would not grow into anything better. Thankfully, Yuan Ye and her sister did not disappoint me. Yuan Ye even brought her foreign husband to visit me. That man had a gloomy and scheming nature, and I completely approve of Yuan Ye marrying him."
"I had a role to play in facilitating Yuan Ye’s entry abroad. And do you think that I wouldn’t know your plans for marrying Yuan Tan to Zhan Guo? How could I let your wishes be fulfilled? Therefore, when Xiaobei’s father came to arrange a marriage, I didn’t interfere. Marrying a headstrong and troublesome girl is better than marrying a venomous woman like you."
Qin Ximei glared at her in fury, "If you have a bone to pick with me, confront me directly. Why harm the children?"
Laughing loudly, Wen Xiuqing’s tears fell freely from the corners of her eyes, "Children? My Aid to Korea was barely more than a child when you managed to kill him. Yet I never laid a hand on anyone - I’ve been very merciful. I enjoyed watching your brief spells of victory."
"What I regret most was inviting a poisonous woman like yourself into my life. I could only destroy your everything, piece by piece. Killing you outright wouldn’t have been satisfying. I want your suffering to be ten, even a thousand times greater than mine. Being triumphant in your youth doesn’t mean anything if you end up desolate in your old age." 𝕗𝗿𝕖𝐞𝐰𝗲𝕓𝐧𝕠𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝐨𝚖
Suddenly, Qin Ximei screamed, "You’ve been scheming against me all this while! It was an accident that something happened to Aid to Korea, but you destroyed my Yuan Ye and Tantan! You’re even more venomous than I am!" Saying that, she tried to rise from the bed to pounce on Wen Xiuqing.
