Back To The 80s-Chapter 170: Cause (Seeking Monthly Tickets)_1
Lu Zhanguo looked at Xiangyang coldly: "Trust and solutions are two different things!"
Startled, Xiangyang stood awkwardly by the side, no longer speaking. The other army wives weren’t sure whether to leave or stay.
Lu Zhanguo looked at the reflective and silent Gu Xiaobei, then told everyone, "You all just stay here."
Chang Yuan, followed by a young soldier, ran up to him, saluted Lu Zhanguo: "Squad leader, you were looking for me."
"Check out these honeycomb briquettes, then tell me where you get them every year." Lu Zhanguo pointed at the honeycomb briquettes on the car.
Chang Yuan walked around the vehicle and carefully checked the briquettes again before hopping off the vehicle and saying, "This coal is from Jia San’s coal factory on the east side of T City, isn’t it?"
Xiangyang nodded, his expression grim. He thought to himself: This Chang Yuan is pretty impressive.
Chang Yuan added: "Their coal usually has more dirt mixed in. There’s another place with better quality coal, but it’s more expensive."
Xiangyang asked curiously: "So, where do you get your coal from?"
"I always go to Longdong to get it. The coal mines there are large, and there are plenty of people making the honeycomb briquettes. The problem is that it’s quite far away. It takes three days for a round trip."
Xiangyang fell silent. He had never thought that buying some honeycomb briquettes could be such an ordeal. It was a thankless task.
Lu Zhanguo glanced at Xiangyang and asked Chang Yuan: "What do you think we should do about this?"
After a moment’s silence, Chang Yuan said, "Let’s divide this coal among all the units. The family courtyard here is full of women and children. If the briquettes are not of good quality and they can’t bring themselves to burn it, they’ll freeze all winter. The unit canteens and duty rooms can make do with it."
Xiangyang felt a chill in his heart; how Chang Yuan had considered all aspects of this small problem... It indeed showed how much thought he put into it!
After contemplating for a moment, Lu Zhanguo told Chang Yuan: "You deal with this matter."
"Yes!" Chang Yuan saluted and was ordered to drive the truck away.
Everyone left to go home seeing that the matter was resolved happily.
Xiangyang felt a strain to maintain his dignity, but seeing Lu Zhanguo’s stern face, he didn’t dare to say more.
"You go first. Next time, put more thought into things like this. The families of military personnel have it tough here."
Watching Xiangyang leave with a flushed face, Gu Xiaobei walked towards Lu Zhanguo. Seeing that there was nobody around, she whispered to him, "Xiangmin was faking it."
Lu Zhanguo looked at Gu Xiaobei, who was standing carefully by his side and looking around cautiously. He couldn’t help but laugh. She made everything seem like a spy mission.
"How do you know?"
"I was behind her. When she fell, it was unusually slow, bending her knees first. And Li Fengmei only swung her arm; if Xiangmin had actually fallen, she would have fallen backward. How could she have fallen to the side of Li Fengmei?" Gu Xiaobei had seen a lot of people pretending to fall in all those videos and the more she thought about it, the more she felt that things were just as she imagined.
Lu Zhanguo couldn’t help but feel impressed. This little wife of his was attentive and clever.
"Then what do you think she did it for?"
"I think she’s going to be hospitalized again. Do you think Chi Xiaoyue will go and take care of her?" Gu Xiaobei speculated.
"We’ll find out tonight. I’m going back to the army base. You go first." Suppressing the urge to pat Gu Xiaobei’s head, Lu Zhanguo said softly.
"Okay." Gu Xiaobei nodded and saw Lu Zhanguo off before returning to comfort Li Fengmei.
Zhang Lijun drove Guo Huaqiang and Xiangmin to the town hospital. After a thorough examination, the doctor concluded that Xiangmin’s pregnancy was unstable and she should get plenty of rest.
However, Xiangmin insisted on staying in the hospital: "I’ve only been back home for a few days, and then this happened. What if something worse happens if I go home again? Who will take responsibility?"
Guo Huaqiang frowned: "I’ve been very busy lately. The military exercises are about to start. I don’t have time to come to the hospital."
"Isn’t Doctor Chi still on vacation? You could ask her to come over." Xiangmin suggested.
Guo Huaqiang hesitated: "But we can’t always trouble her."
Seeing this, Zhang Lijun hesitated and then said, "Or you could ask Fengmei to come over and accompany your wife for a few days?"
Xiangmin glared at him: "You want her to make things more difficult for me!"
Zhang Lijun was at a loss, and after a moment Guo Huaqiang reluctantly said, "Fine, when I go back later, I’ll bring Doctor Chi here. She can bring some change of clothes with her."
After lunch, Guo Huaqiang took Chi Xiaoyue to the hospital.
Once Guo Huaqiang had left, Chi Xiaoyue asked, "Didn’t we agree to wait a few more days? Why are you suddenly hospitalized?"
"You think it’s easy to create an opportunity? I really planned to frame Gu Xiaobei today, but she has wised up now and keeps her distance from me, afraid I might put blame on her." Xiangmin said angrily.
"You promised to help me! I’ve helped you by getting your brother transferred to logistics." Chi Xiaoyue’s face showed a trace of dissatisfaction.
Xiangmin was puzzled: "Tell me, what benefits do you get out of me pretending to be hospitalized?"
"You don’t need to worry about that. But you can’t just get discharged after a few days, right? Are you planning on getting hospitalized again then?" Chi Xiaoyue said angrily.
"Don’t worry, I’ll stay here for half a month. No matter how much they want to discharge me, I won’t leave, okay?" Xiangmin said, preventing her anger from flaring up for the sake of Chi Xiaoyue helping Xiangyang.
"Okay, I took a month’s leave for this. I even took all my annual leave from the past two years just to stay here and keep you company."
"Can you tell me why you insist on having me stay in the hospital?" Xiangmin was still curious.
"Don’t worry, I won’t hurt you." Chi Xiaoyue answered dismissively.
Amazingly, Gu Xiaobei had once again guessed correctly.
After hearing what Zhang Lijun said, Lu Zhanguo squinted his eyes and fell into deep thought.
Guo Huaqiang knocked and entered, wondering about the strange atmosphere. "What happened?"
"Nothing, is your wife okay?" Lu Zhanguo asked.
"She’s fine, her body is just weak. She’ll be fine after some rest."
Zhang Lijun interrupted: "I heard that Xiangyang went back and threw a fit. You might want to check on him, instructor."
"No need. I’ve thought about it, and I’ll just let Chang Yuan resume his old position. Xiangyang can go to the communications unit. If he has an issue with that, he should reconsider being a soldier." After hearing the events that occurred after he left, Guo Huaqiang concluded that a small incident is enough to show whether one is fit for a position.
Zhang Lijun was pessimistic: "Your sister-in-law is going to throw a fit when she finds out."
"Let her make a fuss, this is a military camp, not playhouse." Guo Huaqiang ruffled his hair in annoyance.
Lu Zhanguo silently listened, agreeing with Guo Huaqiang’s decision internally. From what he saw, Xiangyang was still not suitable for his current position.
Seeing Lu Zhanguo’s silence, Guo Huaqiang knew he was agreeing with the decision but had not said anything because of his pride. Thinking about the things he had done in the past, he felt regretful.
Lu Zhanguo placed his hand on the table, fingers slightly bent, lightly tapping the table surface, "Let’s gather in the meeting room for a meeting."
