Back to the 1980s: Transmigrated as the Bigshot's Pampered Wife-Chapter 133: Divorce Drama
Gu Jiaojiao said it once in English and then again in Chinese, and the students in the classroom started to laugh softly.
Although they were normally afraid of the dean of discipline, Gu Jiaojiao had put it so well that they couldn’t hold back their laughter.
The dean of discipline had been an elegant beauty in her youth, and she remained an elegant woman in her old age.
She beamed at Gu Jiaojiao’s compliment, the smile on her wrinkled face growing even more kindly.
’Jiaojiao is so right. Who says you have to let yourself go when you get old? Who says you can’t wear beautiful dresses?’
’Who says you can’t live with elegance, or travel and see the world...’
’Instead of pinning all your hopes on your children, waiting wistfully all day for them to show you affection, it’s far better to invest that energy in yourself.’
’This young lady is practically my kindred spirit,’ the dean thought. She then happily addressed the students of Senior Year, Class One.
"For this mock exam, Gu Jiaojiao ranked first among all the seniors in our school. And as you all just said, who could the person in first place possibly copy from?"
"Right!" the students answered loudly.
The English teacher had been the homeroom teacher for Sophomore Year, Class One. Her punishment was to be stripped of that position.
Furthermore, the dean of discipline would personally take over teaching the senior English classes, which made the English teacher absolutely furious.
Setting aside Gu Jiaojiao’s grades, this year’s senior class truly had several promising students. It wouldn’t be surprising if one of them became the provincial top scholar.
But now, none of that had anything to do with her. Seething with resentment, she shot Gu Jiaojiao a vicious glare.
Gu Jiaojiao met her gaze with a razor-sharp glare of her own before calmly returning to her seat.
The students watched Gu Jiaojiao with complicated expressions. Who could have imagined that the Gu Jiaojiao of the past—spoiled, brainless, and utterly clingy—
would one day become first in the class, and even first in the entire grade level?
The boys who had liked her before liked her even more now, and the girls who had disliked her before disliked her even more now.
But no one dared to show it. After class, Gu Jiaojiao, Zhang Mingyu, and Dong Qiming walked out of the classroom.
The students gathered to gossip. "Hao, didn’t you use to really like Gu Jiaojiao?"
"It was the kind of affection one has for a classmate. And now, I like her even more," the boy admitted openly.
"A pity. Gu Jiaojiao used to have an excellent fiancé, and now she has a disabled husband. Haha!"
a girl who had a crush on Hao sneered sarcastically.
"You... you’re despicable. Do you enjoy bad-mouthing people behind their backs that much?"
"You! You still like Gu Jiaojiao, don’t you?" the girl retorted, getting angry as well.
"I told you, it’s just camaraderie between classmates! You’re being completely unreasonable. Gu Jiaojiao is married now. Stop spouting nonsense and trying to ruin her reputation."
’It was true that he liked Gu Jiaojiao, but she was married. That was a fact.’
’And since she was married, even if he thought about her day and night, that was his own private affair.’
"How did I ruin her reputation? Isn’t her husband disabled? Don’t you still like her? Go on, admit it!"
"Hao is right. You’re a complete lunatic! Gu Jiaojiao never did anything to you, so why are you bad-mouthing her?"
Song Qianqian stepped forward to confront the girl. Her mother had given her specific instructions before school today.
’That Divine Doctor Su Gu was going to operate on her brother this Sunday. She had to protect Gu Jiaojiao.’
"Do you like Hao, too?" the girl snapped, her anger toward Song Qianqian making her irrational.
"Hmph. I knew you were a lunatic. Turns out you’re just a rabid dog, snapping at everyone."
Furious, the girl lunged forward and shoved Song Qianqian, and just like that, the two of them started fighting.
With so many students in the classroom, they were pulled apart in seconds. Their Combat Power was average at best, so no real harm was done, aside from a few pulled hairs.
The bell for class rang. The two girls straightened their clothes and hair, then sat back down in their seats as if nothing at all had happened.
So when Gu Jiaojiao returned to the classroom, she had no idea that Song Qianqian had gotten into a fight with another student over her.
When class let out for lunch, Gu Jiaojiao figured Su Shuochi really wasn’t coming to pick her up, so she prepared to ride home on the back of Dong Qiming’s bicycle.
As they reached the school gate, she spotted Su Shuochi in the distance, waiting in his wheelchair. "Hee hee! I thought you said you weren’t coming today?"
"I’ve taken care of the things you asked about. Shall we go take a look now?" Su Shuochi said gently.
"Did you tell Mom and Dad we won’t be home for lunch?"
"I already told them we’re going to see the courtyard and won’t be home for lunch." The couple chatted as they went.
After they had gone a little way, Su Shuochi took a bottle of water from his backpack and handed it to Gu Jiaojiao.
Then Su Shuochi pulled out a bottle of juice and handed it to Dong Qiming, saying with a look of disdain, "This is for you. You can go now."
’The guy has no situational awareness. Why is he always hanging around us?’
Dong Qiming looked at Su Shuochi, flattered by the unexpected gesture. He was just about to say something sentimental when he heard an urgent voice call out.
"Dong Qiming, you need to get home, quick! Your maternal grandmother’s family is raising hell at your house! Your dad and mom are talking about divorce!"
"Ah! Cousin Jiaojiao, I have to go!" Dong Qiming said, stunned, before hopping on his bike and taking off.
Gu Jiaojiao was a little disappointed she wouldn’t have time to watch the drama unfold. They had to go see the courtyard they’d bought.
"Don’t worry, Jiaojiao. Dong Qihua will tell us all about it later. Let’s go."
Gu Jiaojiao did want to watch the drama, but their new courtyard was more important. So, the couple headed for the entrance of the compound.
Meanwhile, the Dong Family’s living room was packed. Aunt Dong’s parents and her sixth-youngest sister had all arrived.
Old Master Dong and Ren Xiaofang were also in the living room. Uncle Dong was escorting some VIPs to a meeting with the municipal committee and wouldn’t be home for lunch.
Aunt Dong had just gotten home from work, and the younger members of the Dong Family who attended school in the compound had also returned for lunch.
The living room was so crowded there was no room to set up a table for lunch. All eyes were on Aunt Dong’s maternal relatives, who looked ready for a fight.
Aunt Dong had been very fertile, giving birth to a son and a daughter after marrying into the Dong Family. This was her greatest source of pride.
Several of her younger sisters took after their mother, having multiple daughters before finally producing a son.
Two of her sisters still hadn’t managed to have a son at all!
"Dong Jianping, if you don’t get my son out of this mess, my daughter is divorcing you!"
Dong Jianping’s mother-in-law opened her mouth to speak, revealing a set of yellow teeth and spraying saliva all over Ren Xiaofang, who was sitting across from her.
Half of her hair was white, her face was covered in wrinkles, and she was missing several teeth.
The saliva had a foul smell, and Ren Xiaofang was so disgusted she wanted to snap back, ’Fine, let them divorce!’ But Dong Jianping wasn’t her biological son, so she didn’t dare make such a decision on her own.
She could only shoot the woman a few venomous glares before getting up to go wash her face.
"Mother-in-law, there’s nothing I can do this time," Dong Jianping said wearily. "If you really insist on a divorce, then so be it."
Dong Jianping’s mother-in-law: ...
She gaped, her mouth wide open where her front teeth were missing, unable to speak for a long moment. She had only meant to threaten Dong Jianping.
They had never actually considered getting a divorce.
