Chapter 132: Chapter 132: Accused of Cheating

Su Shuochi sat in his wheelchair, watching the back of his wife as she walked through the school gates. He wished he could follow her inside.

He had never understood feelings, let alone the meaning of marriage, but at this moment, he felt like he was beginning to.

’Love must be what he and his wife have,’ he thought. ’Missing each other the moment you part, being stuck together like glue.’

’And marriage... no matter how ugly the fight gets, the next moment, you’re still walking side-by-side.’

Just like Song Zijin and Sheng Yueyue. Even if they were sick of the sight of each other, their relationship was already something they couldn’t sever.

’It would never be like that between him and Jiaojiao. He would only love his wife more and more.’

Su Shuochi waited until his wife’s back was out of sight before wheeling himself away to apply for a phone line installation.

At the entrance of the service center, he ran into Uncle Song. "Su Tuan, are you here to get a phone installed? I can help you with that."

Uncle Song was just looking for an opportunity to visit the Su family and see Eldest Brother Gu. He still didn’t know that his wife was searching everywhere for him to discuss their son’s surgery.

"Alright." Su Shuochi regarded Uncle Song quietly for a couple of seconds. ’Since he’s offering to help, I might as well give him a chance.’

Besides, he still had to pay a deposit for renovation workers and get the medical room for his son decorated.

He had taken a liking to two courtyard houses yesterday and thought they were both excellent. When his wife asked him which one he preferred...

...he hesitated, unable to decide, so his wife told him they would just buy both.

One would be a temporary warehouse, while the other would be renovated for them to live in. They would also set up two medical rooms to have on standby.

The money they had recently earned from their street stall was only enough to buy a single room in one of the courtyard houses.

But the rice, flour, and noodles from his wife’s ’space’ had recently sold for a lot of money—enough to buy both properties.

Once Su Shuochi left the service center, he let loose. His wheelchair flew down the street, moving much faster than a bicycle.

He paid for both courtyard houses in a single lump sum. It was a simple cash-for-keys transaction, and he immediately started the process of transferring the deeds.

Gu Jiaojiao was listed as the owner for both properties. In this era, there was no such thing as purchase limits, let alone buying a house with a mortgage.

However, homeowners could pawn their existing property, mortgaging the asset for a cash loan.

It’s good to have friends in high places. Su Shuochi wasn’t particularly social, but that didn’t mean he lacked connections.

Because he knew the right people, the transfer process went smoothly and quickly, without Gu Jiaojiao even needing to be there in person.

Once the paperwork was done, Su Shuochi went to find Houzi and told him to get some workers to renovate the house.

He himself went to the Shengshi Martial Arts School to find a classmate who did interior design. After all, it was best to leave it to the experts.

Once his classmate came up with the blueprints, he and his wife could review them and make changes to suit their tastes.

He didn’t rest the entire morning. Though he was exhausted and drenched in sweat, he felt a great sense of accomplishment. He had handled almost everything his wife had tasked him with.

The house designated as a warehouse didn’t need any work. They just had to wait for a day when Gu Jiaojiao could move the grain from her ’space’ into the building.

Su Shuochi’s backpack was stocked with several bottles of purified water, various drinks, and some snacks.

Now, he was sitting leisurely under a large tree in the new courtyard, sipping a drink and watching the workers bustle about.

His mind was on his wife. Once he finished his drink, he would give Houzi and his crew a few more instructions, and then he could head to the school to pick up Jiaojiao.

Meanwhile, Gu Jiaojiao was arguing with her English teacher, who believed her perfect score on the exam was a result of cheating and had consequently given her a zero.

Gu Jiaojiao wouldn’t have been this furious if she’d been given a 60. "Teacher, I answered every question correctly. Why did you give me a zero?"

"Gu Jiaojiao, you still don’t realize what you did wrong? I’ve been teaching for decades, and I have never seen a student get a perfect score in English."

The English teacher was a middle-aged woman in her forties, dressed in a fashionable, Western style. Rumor had it she had studied abroad.

As someone who had studied overseas, she considered herself a cut above the rest. In the last couple of years, a fascination with foreign goods had resurfaced.

Matches were called "foreign fire," bicycles "foreign horses"... and the goods at the Overseas Chinese Store were selling exceptionally well.

"Just because you’ve never seen it doesn’t mean it’s impossible, Teacher." Gu Jiaojiao suppressed her fury and argued her case logically. "Look for yourself. Didn’t I answer every single question correctly?" 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝕨𝕖𝗯𝚗𝚘𝕧𝕖𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝕞

"It’s precisely because you answered everything correctly that I suspect you copied from a classmate. That is cheating, which is why I can only give you a zero."

"Teacher, Gu Jiaojiao got a perfect score in Chinese, math, physics... all her subjects this time. I sit behind her, and I can attest that she didn’t cheat."

Zhang Mingyu stood up to speak for Gu Jiaojiao. He could prove that she hadn’t copied from him this time and had definitely not cheated.

Dong Qiming also stood up. "All the other teachers have praised Gu Jiaojiao. She’s ranked first in our grade."

"There’s no one in the entire school with a higher score than Gu Jiaojiao. Who could she possibly have copied from? How could she have cheated?"

"Exactly! No one did better than Gu Jiaojiao, so who would she copy?"

"Let’s go get the principal and the dean of students to handle this!"

Students with a sense of justice stood up one after another, and the condescending English teacher was left speechless.

But she refused to back down. Finally, she said viciously in English, "Then please have student Gu Jiaojiao come up here and read the test paper aloud."

Gu Jiaojiao thoroughly loathed this teacher. She knew the woman prided herself on her English proficiency.

She slowly walked up to the podium and began to speak in perfectly clear, standard English.

"For an English teacher to treat an outstanding student so unfairly shows not only a severe lack of character. You are utterly blind. As an educator, a role model for students, you completely lack the fundamental qualities of integrity and kindness..."

Her sharp gaze and powerful words carried an irresistible, commanding aura.

The English teacher: ...

For the first time in her life, she regretted that her English was so good. Every word Gu Jiaojiao spoke was a dagger to the heart, and she understood all of it perfectly!

Many of the students in the classroom couldn’t understand what Gu Jiaojiao was saying.

But hearing her fluent English, they thought she was incredibly impressive and burst into applause.

"You... All of you..." The English teacher looked like she was about to explode with rage.

Just then, the dean of students, a woman with a full head of silver hair, walked into the senior class’s room. Her wrinkled face wore a kind smile.

She raised both hands and gestured, and only then did the applause die down.

The dean had heard from the senior year teachers that there was a top student in Class One who had scored full marks in every subject.

She had come to see this student for herself, only to overhear the exchange between the English teacher and Gu Jiaojiao as she approached the classroom.

"Student Gu Jiaojiao’s English proficiency is as good as mine, if not better. She is more than capable of earning a perfect score."

The English teacher didn’t dare act out in front of the dean. She lowered her supposedly noble head and remained silent.

Gu Jiaojiao switched back to English to praise the dean. "Dean, you are full of spirit, like a fine aged wine that only grows more captivating as the years go by."

"The frosty blade of time may carve its rings upon others, but it holds no power over you."

"For you, age is merely a number, not a limitation. The years have left you not with wounds, but with medals of honor."
