Chapter 390: Chapter 390: Unearthing Relics

If there’s anything valuable inside, letting this idiot blindly hit it with a shovel might break it.

She laid down the shovel and cautiously began to brush the dirt off the burlap sack with her hands.

The sack looked bulging and it took her a lot of effort to drag it out of the pit.

"Third sister, what’s in here? Something tasty? Let’s open it quickly and check it out."

Su Jianwu’s face was full of excitement, his eyes shining.

Seriously, his mind is all about food.

"Let’s fill the pit back in first. We’ll bring this home and then see."

After working hard for half the night, daylight was approaching, and being seen would not be good.

The two huffed and puffed to fill the pit back in and covered it with a layer of weeds.

After making sure there was nobody around, the two carried the sack and sneaked back home.

"Close the door quickly, don’t let anyone see."

Su Xiaoxiao instructed Su Jianwu, and just as she turned around, she found herself locking eyes with her older brother Su Wenbing, who was heading out.

Su Xiaoxiao: "..."

Since the older brother had already noticed, she decided to direct him to help carry the stuff into the house.

She and her younger brother weren’t strong enough; it was too tiring.

Su Wenbing followed Su Xiaoxiao’s instructions and carried the items inside, then started to untie the hemp rope around the sack.

Su Xiaoxiao quickly stopped him, "Big brother, wait a moment, should we call mom over and ask if there’s anything noteworthy about it? These could be burial items, and just in case..."

Sun Wenbing retracted his outstretched hand in an instant.

Previously, the elders in the village often said items from graves carried heavy energy and could be tainted with unclean things, which is why those tomb raiders always ended up poorly.

Su Jianwu, upon hearing that they should call their mom to make a decision, voluntarily rushed over to knock on the door.

"Mom, mom, wake up quickly!"

Liu Cuilan had just gotten down from the bed when she heard that, nearly falling back in shock.

The little stone on the bedhead was also startled, closing its eyes and starting to whimper.

Xu Zhaodi quickly reached over to lightly pat and soothe the child.

Liu Cuilan furrowed her eyebrows, pulled open the door, and dragged Su Jianwu by the collar into the living room, "What are you squawking about first thing in the morning? Are you summoning ghosts?"

By the time she finished speaking, they had reached the living room.

Upon seeing the large burlap sack added to the room, Liu Cuilan was briefly bewildered.

The sack was tattered, and covered with dirt, and soil was still falling onto the floor, making her frown.

"Where did you pick up this junk? You’re out scavenging in the morning instead of sleeping? Get this junk out of here, I just swept the floor last night."

Seeing their mom appear, Su Xiaoxiao and Su Wenbing immediately felt like they found their backbone.

Su Xiaoxiao: "Mom, mom, come and take a look, maybe there’s something special in here."

Liu Cuilan approached; she couldn’t tell what the sack was for, but it smelled foul, and the morning stink was turning her stomach.

She kicked the sack distastefully, "Where did you three pick up this junk, throw it out quickly, it’s stinking up the place."

Su Wenbing quickly blocked his mom, "Mom, you should be careful, this is most likely dug out from a grave."

"What?"

Liu Cuilan’s eyes widened, "You three rascals, digging in graves instead of sleeping, ugh, disgusting, throw it out, hurry."

Her voice rose, and Su Xiaoxiao rushed forward to cover her mom’s mouth, "Mom, don’t shout, there might be treasures in here, people have been after these things all night."

"Our village is so poor that a coin rattles in the pocket; people are barely surviving, who would bury stuff with the dead? Lost their mind?"

Su Xiaoxiao touched her nose, "Mom, you said there was a rich villager..."

"That’s just hearsay, no one knows if it’s true."

Su Xiaoxiao: "..."

Her mom talked about it so vividly like she’s seen it herself, but it’s all gossip.

Seeing no one moving the sack, Su Jianwu directly started to tug at it, "Why don’t we just open it up and see what’s inside? You three adults are so indecisive."

As he spoke, he pulled hard, the hemp rope came undone, and then the eyes of everyone in the room widened simultaneously.

The sack was full to the brim with porcelain and jade, plus several goldfish.

They had never seen this much valuable stuff in their lives.

The porcelain looked very finely crafted, estimated to be artifacts.

Su Xiaoxiao swallowed hard, these were antiques, she had only ever seen such things in museums.

Su Wenbing couldn’t help but ask, "Mom, could the rich villager rumor be true? How else could there be so many antiques?"

Liu Cuilan was too shocked to listen to what her son was saying.

She had just kicked such precious items. If she had broken them earlier...

Su Xiaoxiao squatted down and carefully examined the pile, becoming more alarmed the more she looked.

Inside were porcelain, jade, with around ten gold bars.

She rummaged through and found a small box of rosewood at the bottom, opening it revealed a box full of gold jewelry, jade bracelets, luminous pearls, and more.

Such things could not possibly have been buried by a rural rich villager.

The family fell silent, while Su Jianwu looked excited, "Third sister, this is gold, right? This piece must be worth a fortune, isn’t our family about to get rich?"

"Get rich, my foot! These are cultural artifacts, we must turn them in!"

Su Xiaoxiao slapped the silly kid on the back of his head, the items looked neither up nor down like they could be buried with a rural rich villager, it’s likely the rich villager story is just a ruse.

There’s a chance there is something else beneath the rich villager’s grave, like an ancient tomb.

The tomb raiders might have deliberately taken the rich villager’s burial items to make people believe they were targeting those, meanwhile assuring everyone they’ve taken whatever was buried.

Then they could sneak back later to retrieve items from the tomb.

But it’s uncertain why they waited so long before returning.

Realizing this, Su Xiaoxiao suddenly stood up, "Mom, these are national artifacts, we can’t keep them. If those tomb raiders find out we’ve taken them, they won’t spare us; we should report to the police and hand over these items."

Liu Cuilan didn’t think these things had such a significant provenance and nodded vigorously, "Alright, get your second brother up, while it’s still quiet outside, hurry to the county police station with your big brother."

Su Xiaoxiao felt uneasy, "Mom, I’ll go along too; I’m supposed to go on a business trip in a couple of days, but it’s okay if I’m late."

This wasn’t a small matter, she felt uneasy with just her brothers going.

Woken up, Su Fusheng joined, and the three found a flatbed cart, loaded the items onto it, and carefully covered them with straw before heading to the county police station.
