Back to 1984: Let's Work Hard Together to Raise The Kids!-Chapter 164: A Dormmate’s Money-Making Plan
She walked around the slope, picked a basketful, then collected a lot of chicken and duck eggs, and managed to catch two black chickens to make soup.
One would be for the family, and the other to share with her friends at school.
By dusk, Lin Yi sent the kids back to Nanyu, asked Huang Yuezhen to take care of them, and then drove Lin Qin to school.
Lin Qin couldn’t carry all these items up the stairs in one go, so she decided to take the quilt up first and called Ge Qiuyue and the others to come down and help.
Ge Qiuyue had just returned from her hometown with a bunch of stuff. She had just finished unpacking when she came downstairs and saw the basket of fruit and the big bag of vegetables, her eyes widened.
"Oh my goodness, girl, what are you up to?"
Lin Qin grinned, "Remember our planned celebration? I brought all the ingredients, we have seafood, vegetables, and fruits, and I even made some black chicken soup, just missing some meat.
Later, let’s go to a restaurant outside the school and ask them to cook for us."
"This... this is going to be a feast!" Zhang Hong exclaimed loudly.
Du Juanhua nodded vigorously; she had never eaten proper seafood until now.
Lin Qin chuckled nonchalantly, "The fruits and vegetables are grown by my dad, the chickens and ducks are raised by him, and the seafood was bought wholesale, so it didn’t cost much. I’ll cover the cost of the ingredients, and you all can split the cooking cost. How does that sound?"
Everyone nodded without hesitation.
Quickly they gave a hand to move the things downstairs.
Bai Junjun said to Lin Yi, "Uncle, why don’t you stay and eat with us!"
Lin Yi waved his hand repeatedly, "You all eat, there’s another pot of chicken soup at home. I need to go back and check on the grandkids before they turn the place upside down! Come visit us sometime!"
Lin Qin gave Lin Yi a few reminders and watched him drive away in his tricycle, then called her friends to carry the food to the restaurant outside the school.
On the way, they ran into Zhao Qingyue coming out of the cafeteria.
Lin Qin didn’t even think about it and handed her a pomelo and some tangerines and jujubes.
"President, have a taste; they’re homegrown."
Zhao Qingyue was surprised but didn’t hold back, instead she curiously asked, "What’s all this for?"
"A dinner party outside! I prepared the ingredients." Lin Qin explained.
Zhao Qingyue saw the seafood and exclaimed, "If I’m not mistaken, these are deep-sea seafood, quite expensive, right!"
Lin Qin smiled humbly, "Not quite, it’s not cheap in the market, but my family does seafood wholesale, so it’s not too costly."
Zhao Qingyue raised an eyebrow, pulled Lin Qin aside to learn more, discovered that Lin Qin’s family’s seafood wholesale business was quite substantial, and they also grew a lot of vegetables and fruits and raised many chickens and ducks. She immediately grew interested, "Would you consider providing ingredients for school activities?"
"Huh?"
Seeing Lin Qin was puzzled.
Zhao Qingyue carefully explained the situation to her, "You know how club activities need funding, and some even need catering. But as students, getting good affordable stuff is tough, especially when these activities occasionally have leaders attending, so you need to put on a show. Every year, we’re short on budget.
If you could provide better-priced ingredients than the market, we could partner up, how about it?"
"Sure thing!" Lin Qin’s eyes sparkled as she embraced Zhao Qingyue, beaming broadly, "President, I can’t vouch for anything else, but my family’s seafood selection is varied beyond imagination; you may not have heard of it or seen it, but there’s nothing we can’t get! Except, of course, if it’s not available locally.
Anyway! As long as it’s local seafood or freshwater fish, I can get it for you at wholesale price, won’t overcharge."
"Deal!" Zhao Qingyue tightly shook Lin Qin’s hand.
The two women exchanged a smile, and Zhao Qingyue trudged to the dormitory building, carrying the big pomelo and a bag of tangerines and jujubes.
Lin Qin quickly joined her roommates.
Ge Qiuyue asked, "What? Our president wants to buy your family’s seafood?"
Lin Qin nodded, succinctly explaining the situation.
Everyone congratulated her.
Bai Junjun grinned, "To celebrate Sister Qin sealing a deal, we have to eat as much as possible, let’s eat ’til she’s broke!"
Zhou Xue rolled her eyes playfully, "Come off it! With these two baskets, even if we eat until we lean against a wall, we won’t finish it."
Everyone laughed heartily.
Once at the restaurant, after everyone sat down, Lin Qin looked at Du Juanhua and Zhang Hong, "How have your part-time jobs been?"
Both nodded enthusiastically, feeling a bit excited.
"We’ve been tutoring high school students, all from wealthy families. Each session gives us two dollars fifty, I took three, one in the morning, two in the afternoon. Zhang Hong is more impressive, she took four sessions, one in the morning, two in the afternoon, another at night. Luckily, the night session is near school, so it’s safe.
In just a week, I made over fifty-two dollars. Zhang Hong made a bit more, but I’m satisfied with this; it’s enough for me until the holidays!"
Du Juanhua spoke about part-time work, eyebrows raised in excitement, and her confidence increased.
Zhang Hong agreed, "Same here! This money will get me through the holidays. Then, I’ll find work during the holidays, go home on New Year’s Eve, and won’t need to ask for living expenses for the next semester!"
Ge Qiuyue didn’t expect to earn so much in seven days, clicking her tongue, "Should I also consider doing part-time work with you?"
Lin Qin frowned, "Sister Ge, don’t you have kids at home? Isn’t it busy at year-end?" 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝐰𝚎𝕓𝐧𝚘𝘃𝗲𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝕞
Ge Qiuyue was exasperated, "True! I’m also planning to get a city job to move the kids and husband to the city."
She wanted to change her and her family’s life, thinking getting into college and a good job would be enough, but entering university and gaining insights, she realized it was just the start; it required money, and her family wasn’t affluent.
Seeing her worried, Lin Qin offered a suggestion, "Set up a stall selling clothes! I know a young girl, she set up a stall during summer vacation and made over a thousand bucks, didn’t need to ask her family for money during school, and after tasting success, she spends every holiday running a stall."
"Is it the one who sold whitening cream with you?" Zhou Xue asked, blinking.
They vividly remembered Lin Qin selling whitening cream and had whispered about it privately.
Lin Qin nodded, "That’s her, we did the business together, sold for a while and earned quite well, now occasionally people still buy it. You see, as long as there’s demand, there’s profit, even selling at school can work like our E Society.
Now, as soon as we issue a newspaper, the bureau can’t keep up with demand. In about a year or two, we’ll recoup the investment, and after that, it’s all profit. Initially starting E Society, we didn’t get school activity funds, so E Society technically is just registered within the school, ownership is mine. Upon graduation, I can move E Society outside, manage it myself.
Then the ways to earn expand!"
