Chapter 305: Episode 303: Not a Smooth Birth.

"It is perfect."

Roxy let out a long, heavy sigh of genuine satisfaction as her eyes swept across the newly finished nursery. The heavy iron-wood crib was perfectly positioned away from the draft of the arched windows.

Kaelen’s protective, warming runes pulsed with a soft, golden hum beneath the woven rugs, while Ren’s breathtaking mural of the forest canopy made the ceiling look like a portal to the sunlit woods.

Even Syris’s carefully arranged bundles of neutralizing herbs gave the room a fresh, soothing scent of mint and crushed pine.

She was doing all she can for her beautiful baby coming into the world. For some reason, she felt like he/she was going to be different.

"If the Queen is satisfied, then the work is done," Ren declared, offering a sweeping, dramatic bow that made the vibrant red tips of his hair brush his knees. "But now, you must rest. You look exhausted."

"I second the Fox," Zarek rumbled, stepping forward and immediately pressing his massive hand against the small of Roxy’s back. "You have been on your feet for too long. To the bedroom."

Roxy didn’t have the energy to argue. Her body felt incredibly heavy, her center of gravity completely thrown off by the massive, swollen weight of her belly. As she turned toward the nursery door, flanked by the towering Dragon and the hovering White Tiger, a sudden, jarring sensation ripped through her core.

It was a sharp, grinding agony that felt as if the cub were doing violent cartwheels directly against her spine.

Roxy sucked in a sharp breath through her teeth, her steps faltering. She grabbed Zarek’s thick forearm in a thick grip, her knuckles instantly turning white.

"Roxy?" Torian was there in a second, his arm wrapping securely around her waist to bear her weight. "Is it the cub? Another kick?"

"I... I don’t know," Roxy gritted out, her violet eyes flashing with a sudden, fierce spike of absolute frustration.

She was angry. The pain wasn’t productive. The baby wasn’t dropping into her pelvis or trying to push his way out; he was just shifting violently, causing a blinding, agonizing cramp that refused to fade.

"He’s just... hurting me," Roxy hissed, her brow furrowing deeply as she forced herself to stand upright, willing the cramp to subside. "It’s just a sharp pain. I just need to lie down."

The Alpha Kings exchanged dark, highly alarmed glances, but they didn’t push her. They practically carried her down the hallway, their massive frames forming a wall around her as they navigated the distance to the master suite.

The walk felt like it took hours. By the time they finally breached the bedroom, Roxy was panting, a cold sweat breaking out across her forehead. The lingering anxiety about the System’s silence, combined with the sheer, unnatural intensity of the pain, was fraying her nerves to the absolute breaking point.

"Get the furs back," Zarek commanded, his voice tight with suppressed panic.

Kaelen lunged for the massive bed, instantly ripping the thick snow-fox pelts back to clear a space for her. Torian guided Roxy carefully toward the edge of the mattress.

She took a deep breath, intending to sit down and slowly swing her swollen legs up.

But the moment she bent her knees, the world seemed to drop entirely out from under her.

A massive, bone-rattling contraction seized her entire abdomen. It was so intense, so violently sudden, that it completely stole the oxygen from her lungs. She couldn’t even formulate a scream.

And then, with a distinct, horrifyingly loud pop that echoed in the quiet bedroom, a sudden, warm gush of fluid soaked straight through her silk gown and splashed heavily onto the polished floorboards.

Roxy froze.

She stared down at the puddle pooling around her bare feet in absolute, unadulterated shock. Her hands flew to the sides of her stomach, her violet eyes wide with disbelief.

"Why am I giving birth now??" Roxy gasped, her voice cracking with pure panic.

She wasn’t ready. The baby wasn’t supposed to come till one month at least. What the fuck was happening?

The master bedroom instantly exploded into organized, terrifying chaos.

"Her water broke!" Kaelen barked, his eyes flashing in panic. He seemed to have PTSD from Roxy’s last childbirth. He whipped around to face the Snake Beastman. "Syris! We need the sterilized linens, the boiled water, and the clotting tonics from the apothecary! Now!"

They had been preparing for this.

Syris slithered out of the room immediately.

"Ren, find Dena!" Zarek roared, his eyes wide with terror as he looked at the puddle on the floor.

"Get me on the bed!" Roxy commanded, her voice cutting through their shouting as another agonizing, rolling wave of pain began to build in her lower back.

Torian didn’t hesitate. The White Tiger completely ignored the mess on the floor. He grabbed Roxy by the hips, lifting her effortlessly and setting her securely in the center of the massive mattress. Instead of hovering over her, Torian immediately climbed onto the bed behind her.

He sat against the heavy wooden headboard, spreading his thick, muscular legs wide, and pulled Roxy directly back into his chest. He became a solid wall of muscle for her to lean against. His massive arms wrapped securely around her sides, his heavily calloused hands splaying gently over the tight, contracting dome of her stomach.

"I have you, my Queen," Torian rumbled, his deep voice vibrating directly into her spine, desperate to ground her. "I have you. You are safe. Breathe for me, Roxy."

Roxy threw her head back against Torian’s collarbone, her fingers digging viciously into his thick forearms. She gritted her teeth, her entire body trembling as the contraction peaked, threatening to tear her in half.

Syris slithered to the foot of the bed, his arms laden with pristine white towels and glowing vials of green magic. Ren slid into the room a second later, dragging a wide-eyed Dena behind him.

The room was set. The pack was in position. Roxy squeezed her eyes shut, trying to mentally prepare herself to push a Tiger cub out of her body.

But just as Kaelen stepped up to her side to check her pulse, a sound shattered the tense, heavy atmosphere of the Manor.

It didn’t come from the hallway. It came from outside.

Echoing from the front courtyard, carrying through the open arched windows of the master bedroom, came a loud, desperate, and incredibly exhausted shout.

"Roxy, I am here for you!!!"

Zarek’s head snapped toward the window, his pupils turning into lethal slits. Ren froze, his ears pinning back. Torian’s grip on Roxy’s waist tightened instinctively, his beast instantly recognizing the scent of a rival King breaching their territory.

But for Roxy, the sound of his voice coincided with the absolute peak of her labor.

A blinding, catastrophic wave of agony rocked her entire body. It felt as though the very fabric of the world was tearing apart inside her womb. The pain was so intense, so deeply visceral, that it completely blurred the lines between her transmigrated reality and her physical soul.

She arched violently off Torian’s chest, a breathless, tearing scream ripping from her throat. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝚠𝚎𝚋𝗻𝗼𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝚘𝐦

Fuck, this feels too real... Roxy thought, her mind short-circuiting as dark spots danced at the edges of her vision. The system magic, the buffs, none of it shielded her from the raw, tearing reality of this specific moment.

She collapsed back against the White Tiger, her chest heaving, her skin slick with a cold sweat. She gripped Torian’s arms so hard her nails drew tiny drops of blood from his skin.

But he didn’t mind.

She forced her heavy, tear-blurred eyes open, looking wildly toward the bedroom window where the shout had echoed from. Her heart hammered against her ribs, completely overriding the agony of her labor.

Roxy let out a ragged, trembling gasp. "Is that Caspian?"
