Are You Crazy? You're Telling Me This Is a Fugitive TV Show?-Chapter 142: A Return Gift, a Sliver of Hope!
Chapter 142: A Return Gift, a Sliver of Hope!
After a precise launch of the rocket launcher, Wang Yun’s face broke into a slight smile. He pulled out his phone and dialed a number.
Simultaneously, the phone in Captain Everick’s hand rang again. Recognizing the number, he answered the call with a dark expression.
“Wang Yun, what are you up to? Just wait, we’ll definitely capture you and deal with you,” Captain Everick roared with a menacing tone as soon as the call connected.
“Hehe,” Wang Yun, hearing this, smiled with a touch of scorn.
“Prepare materials for one hundred disguise masks within an hour. You know the consequences of non-compliance,” he said, then abruptly ended the call.
This quick hang-up left Captain Everick even more embarrassed and frustrated.
“What did Wang Yun say?” Wu Mingyu and others inquired after noticing the conversation.
“He’s demanding materials for one hundred disguise masks,” Captain Everick responded sternly.
Wu Mingyu thought for a few seconds before adding, “Requesting a large quantity of disguise mask materials and taking many hostages suggests he plans to escape Nancheng.”
“If he uses the hostages as leverage and takes all the vehicles and hostages to another city, plus using disguise masks, the difficulty to capture Wang Yun will significantly increase. We’ll then have to contend not only with him but also his over seventy followers,” a Captain from the Japan program team commented gravely. 𝓯𝑟𝓮ℯ𝘸ℯ𝘣𝑛ℴ𝘷ℯ𝓵.𝘤𝑜𝑚
“Then we must prevent him from leaving,” said the blonde middle-aged Captain from West Country, his tone icy.
“From now on, it might be up to you two,” Kolyev said softly and glanced at the blonde middle-aged Captain from West Country and Captain Coniso from the United States.
“I’ve got this,” the blonde middle-aged Captain said full of confidence.
“Go prepare the disguise mask materials and bring them here,” Wu Mingyu and the others continued instructing the program officers.
At this point, the number of hostages had been confirmed to be over two hundred. Given so many hostages, they must fulfill Wang Yun’s demands, provided they weren’t excessively unreasonable.
“Captain, Wang Yun has again deployed five drones to monitor us,” reported someone from a nearby position.
The program inspection Captains looked up, their brows furrowing slightly. This time, they refrained from shooting the drones down. They knew that if they shot down these drones would surely provoke Wang Yun into retaliating.

“In the current situation, how will they deal with me? How will they break this deadlock?” Wang Yun mused quietly inside a vehicle in the tunnel, watching the screen before him.
His primary aim in this direct confrontation with the program inspection teams was to get materials for disguise masks. Though procuring these materials in other cities would be much easier, it wouldn’t be as quick as this method.
Moreover, another consideration was the large number of subordinates he now had. Exiting the city under normal circumstances would make them sitting ducks. The program inspection teams could easily discover and target them.
With just a dozen helicopters, they could wipe them all out. They were too conspicuous of a target. It was impossible to escape.
Using hostages to exit the city was the only way. By taking a large number of hostages and blending in with them, he could make his escape.
“If I were part of the program inspection team, I wouldn’t allow myself to leave the city. With so many hostages, how would they take me down?” Wang Yun murmured, continuously thinking it over.
He considered starting with the hotpot he had requested and the materials for the disguise masks. Tampering with the disguise mask materials was challenging. But meddling with the hotpot?
That was easy.
Like Wang Yun, with his god-level medical skills, he had more than ten ways to tamper with the ingredients. Poisoning or medicating the water, vegetables, meat, or other ingredients was an excellent strategy.
If successful, then his entire group would be wiped out.
The most straightforward countermeasure was not to eat. Brutally simple. Eating was absolutely not an option.
However, he could exploit this, to play their game.
As time slowly passed, Wang Yun’s phone rang. He glanced at it and answered.
“All the hotpot ingredients and disguise mask materials you requested are ready. Can you release some hostages now?” came a voice through the phone upon connection.
“You’re not in a position to negotiate terms with me right now, just bring them over,” Wang Yun said.
“What exactly do you want for you to agree to release the hostages?” the cold voice persisted.
Wang Yun didn’t respond. He simply hung up the call.
“Damn it!”
Outside, Captain Everick from the United States cursed as the call was abruptly ended again, his face darkening with frustration.
He turned, looking towards Captain Coniso behind him, and asked, “Captain Coniso, are you all set?”
“All prepared. Given that Wang Yun might anticipate our meddling with the hotpot, I’ve adjusted the virus’s onset time to forty minutes post-ingestion,” Captain Coniso responded.
“As for me, I’ve also extended the time to forty minutes and applied it to the beef. It’s colorless, odorless, and undetectable,” added the blonde middle-aged Captain from the West Country program inspection team, speaking in a subdued tone.
They had synchronized the drug’s effect to kick in after forty minutes. This was a significant amount of time.
“Let’s send it over,” Captain Everick gestured to a few program officers.
Five or six officers, pushing a cart, made their way toward the tunnel. Snipers were positioned behind them, aiming at the tunnel to prevent any sudden onslaught from Wang Yun’s side.
“Hold your fire, friendly forces, don’t shoot!”
“Hahaha, no need to be so worried or tense.”
At that moment, six individuals walked out from the Longshan Tunnel, their faces brimming with smiles as they waved at the program officers in front, laughing boldly. They then casually strolled toward the officers.
“They’re so arrogant.”
The Captains observed, their expressions turning icy.
“Hahaha, thanks a lot to all the Captains for the hotpot, really appreciate it. You guys are incredibly warm-hearted. Just after our boss fired a rocket at you, you so promptly delivered the hotpot to us. It wouldn’t be polite not to return the favor. Thanks, brothers.”
The six individuals collected all the hotpot ingredients and disguise mask materials, laughing joyously as they proceeded. After inspecting the items outside, they waved back and re-entered the tunnel.
***
“666! These guys are utterly arrogant!”
“So smug! Big Brother just sent six of his people out so boldly, completely disregarding all the Captains!”
“This is too wild! Reciprocation is a courtesy? Man, if I were in their shoes, I would’ve already given the order to take them down right away!”
“They act just like real criminals, it’s incredibly annoying!”
“There’s poison in the hotpot already. I wonder if Big Brother and his team will end up eating it.”
“I think the likelihood is very low. Given his intelligence, he should expect it and be prepared!”
“I also think not. Big Brother is unlikely to go down so easily.”
Meanwhile, in the livestream, all the viewers watching these developments were engaged in discussions. They were somewhat taken aback by the brazenness of Wang Yun’s subordinates and speculated whether Wang Yun and his team would detect the toxins in the hotpot.
In the Chinese program inspection team, Wu Mingyu and others stood aside while Wu Yaoming quietly asked, “What do you think the chances of success are?”
“The probability of Wang Yun succumbing to the poison is merely one percent,” Ying Yuezi responded.
That was her estimation. Although she was the first to propose the idea of poisoning the hotpot, she still considered the likelihood to be exceedingly low. It was merely a strategy with a faint glimmer of hope.
