Chapter 241: Open up

She and Ethan were indeed winning the battle, but their allies betrayed them.

Caught off guard by the relentless attacks, they had no time to retreat.

In truth, they could have easily wiped out their enemies with their Tier 8 abilities.

However, their cores were nearly depleted after fighting aliens nonstop for weeks without rest.

In the end, they succumbed—tragically defeated by both the alien forces and their treacherous allies.

It wasn’t that she vanished; it was her ability—[Rewind Time]—that failed her.

She was supposed to send her consciousness back a week before the tragic event.

But the moment she saw Ethan lying lifeless on the ground, her emotions spiraled out of control.

Due to a series of events, she was transported to the future—500 years after the battle took place.

Because of that, she has no knowledge of what happened after she vanished.

Now that Ethan dreams of their past life—of the moment she disappeared after his death. She feels an overwhelming sense of guilt.

She cried, her tears flowing freely as she looked at him with a pitiful expression.

Seeing his wife in such distress, Ethan felt a wave of remorse—he should have held back. freeweɓnøvel~com

He then quickly pulled her into his arms, trying to soothe her emotions.

It was the first time he had seen his wife so vulnerable.

Most of the time, she was decisive and strong; he couldn’t help but wonder what could have shaken her this deeply.

’Is the dream somehow connected to them?’

He had so many questions, but right now, calming her came first.

"Wife, please don’t cry anymore. It’s my fault—I shouldn’t have let you get upset. The baby will definitely be angry with me for making its mom cry."

He continued whispering soothing words, trying his best to comfort her.

Then, he gently looked at her, wiping away her tears with tender care before kissing her cheeks and forehead.

After a few minutes of silent embrace, Elena finally gathered her thoughts, the warmth of his presence providing her with a sense of stability amidst the turmoil of her past life.

Taking a deep breath, she knew it was time to share the truth that had been weighing heavily on her heart.

Her stomach also gave off a wave of warm energy—perhaps the baby was encouraging her.

"What you saw in your dreams did come true at one point, it was..." she said, hesitant.

But before she could say more, Ethan finished her sentence.

"It was you and me, right?"

Elena took a breath and finally confirmed it.

"Yes, and I was reborn."

Ethan’s eyes widened as the pieces began to fall into place.

’That’s why she knew everything.’

She then began to tell her story—how the disaster shattered their peaceful days, how they fought to survive against impossible odds, and how, in the end, they still failed.

"Wife, whatever happened in our past will never happen again. I swear it. So please, don’t blame yourself, okay?"

Elena nodded, a bright smile forming on her face. Her worries slowly faded now that she had shared her burden.

She finally had someone she could talk to.

Ethan hugged her tightly again, asking countless questions.

"So the changes I noticed—back in Maple Village—they were all because you had already returned?"

"Mmm-hmm. And I’m glad I came back early to prepare everything," she said, kissing her husband back.

Ethan finally understood why she had changed when they met again in the village.

She was supposed to be angry at him for abandoning her during their wedding, but instead, she accepted him with love and supported him without question.

It was all because she had come from the future.

Her painful experiences made him blame himself for not being able to protect her then.

So now, he vowed to keep his wife and child safe—and to make sure they would live happily, no matter what.

"Wife, how is the baby in the future? Did it grow well? Is it well-behaved? It’s a girl, right?"

Elena froze—there was no baby in their past life.

Seeing her sudden stillness, Ethan understood.

"I see. We didn’t have children in our past life. So this baby... is a miracle."

"Hmmm, and many things have changed compared to before."

It all started with the natural disasters—their timing had shifted, and they struck with even greater force.

Elena explained everything about the disaster, making sure she didn’t leave out a single detail.

They were deep in conversation when someone knocked on their door.

"Sister Ewe, are you there? Little Mia is here! Grandpa wants to talk to you!" Little Mia shouted, trying to get Elena’s attention.

"Little Mia, we should be quiet. Brother Ethan is sleeping," Little Koby replied gently.

"Why is he still sleeping? We haven’t had our daily exercise! I miss our instructor," Little Erick grumbled, clearly missing Ethan’s morning drills.

Without him, how could he ever become stronger?

"But... but Brother Tan is so strict! I miss Sis Ele teaching us," Little Mia protested.

The kids, who were supposed to inform Elena that Grandpa Caldwell was looking for her, had now started arguing right outside the door.

Elena couldn’t help but laugh at their antics, then glanced at her husband, who was now being playfully blamed for his tyrant drill.

"I’ll open the door. Stay put, wife. These little rascals need to be taught a lesson."

"Don’t be too hard on them—they’re just being silly, okay?" Elena said, worried he might scold them too harshly.

"I’ll listen to you, wife," he replied with a smirk.

But deep down, he was already planning to train them hard—and make sure they didn’t tell Elena anything about it.

Elena shivered at her husband’s mischievous smile, but still, she trusted him not to make the kids’ lives too hard.

He then walked to the door and opened it with momentum, glancing at the kids who were playing outside, unaware that he had been observing them all along.

The kids were still deep in conversation, completely forgetting the reason they had come in the first place.

When the door swung open, they instantly fell silent and lined up neatly to enter.

The moment they stepped inside, they were greeted by Ethan’s stern expression.

They quickly lowered their heads, worried that Brother Ethan had overheard their earlier complaints.

But Little Mia didn’t hesitate—she ran up and hugged him tightly.

She had missed her Brother Tan’s constant nagging.

She remembered visiting him with her mom and upon seeing him asleep for so long, she worried that he might never wake up.

But with her mother’s reassurance that he was fine, she breathed a sigh of relief and patiently waited for him to return.

"Brother Tan, you’re finally awake! I missed you so much!"

Ethan scooped her up with ease.

This little sister of his was so mischievous. If he ever tried to scold her, Elena and Grandpa Caldwell would glare at him like he was a villain.

Not that he minded—he truly cared for Little Mia.

"Your brother just woke up. Why are you all in such a rush to get here?" he asked with a raised brow.

"Grandpa is looking for Sister Elena. Eh? Where is she?" Little Mia looked around until she saw Elena in the living room, smiling at her.

She wanted to jump down and run toward her, but Ethan held her firmly, worried she might bump into his pregnant wife.

"Calm down. Your Sis Ele is right there," he said gently.

Seeing them together, Elena stood up and greeted the children with a warm smile.

"Why does Grandpa want to talk to me?" she asked gently, patting their heads with a warm smile.

"I don’t know, Sis. Grandpa just said to contact him as soon as possible," Little Mia replied.

"Alright, then. You kids stay here and watch your favorite cartoons," Elena said, chuckling as she gestured for them to go to the living room.

Soon after, the kids quickly thanked her and dashed toward the flat-screen TV, excitement lighting up their faces.

Elena smiled, watching their adorable expressions.

Once the children had settled, Elena and Ethan quietly exited the space and went to see Grandpa Caldwell.

"Grandpa," Ethan called out, noticing his grandpa examining the thermometer with a serious look.

Hearing his voice, Grandpa Caldwell quickly turned his head. Seeing that his grandson was finally awake and in good condition, he let out a deep sigh of relief.

"You’re finally awake! How are you feeling?" he asked.

"Grandpa, I feel great. I have successfully awakened my ability this time," Ethan replied with a soft smile, his eyes sparkling with excitement and pride.

Without hesitation, Grandpa Caldwell pulled him into a hug.

The older he got, the more emotional he became—but he didn’t mind. He was just grateful his grandson was safe.

"Good. Now take care of your wife. Just look at her—she’s slimmed down from looking after you," he whispered.

"I will, Grandpa. But why did you call us?" Ethan asked.

Grandpa Caldwell’s expression then turned serious.

"The temperature is rising. It was supposed to be -50 degrees today, but I just saw it’s gone up to -40. That’s a 10-degree increase in a single day."

"We need to prepare," he continued.

"The dead bodies must be cleared before the temperature rises any further. If not, it could lead to serious outbreaks of disease."

Ethan and Elena nodded.

Understanding the urgency, they immediately began informing the others about the situation.
