Apocalyptic Disasters: Carrying a bun and hoarding supplies-Chapter 757: Waving Vine
The man softly added, "Anyway, there is no point in taking them along. Sooner or later, they will drag our team down; it will be better if you send them to the safe base run by Bai Meiyue. That way, they will have a better future, and we will survive without any hassle as well. I don’t even want to imagine how messy the entire situation is going to become once we bring them along with us and we slowly start running out of supplies."
He then shrugged and added, "Of course, if you do not wish to, then we can always take them with us, but you should be prepared for the worst. Because if we take so many people with us, then they are bound to start feeling resentful when we cannot provide them with supplies."
After he finished speaking, the man turned on his feet and headed off to the parking lot where the buses were parked, leaving Chief Li to stare at the children and the elderly. He had to admit that the more he looked at them, the more he realised that these people were simply a burden on him and even more on their supplies. They had limited resources to begin with; if they were to share those supplies with the elderly and the children—could they even reach the safe base in the capital without dying?
With a frown on his face, he finally decided to make the decision that might be for the betterment of everyone.
"Mom!!"
"Mom!! Don’t leave me."
"Mom, I am scared."
Chief Li watched the two-year-old child stretching out his hand towards his mother while crying. He yelled and screamed while watching his mother being dragged away by the soldiers. However, the one who was holding him up in the air wouldn’t let him go. The little boy used his feet to hit the soldier who was holding him up in the air, but no matter how hard he struggled, the man wouldn’t let him go and harshly shoved him into the arms of an old grandfather who was trembling due to fear and worry.
These people had taken away his daughter-in-law and left his grandson with him. He already had a very good idea what these men had in mind, but he was too weak to fight back and could only watch his daughter-in-law being dragged as she fought tooth and nail with the soldier who was dragging her. But ultimately, she was a woman, and there was nothing that she could do against the man who was more powerful than her in terms of strength.
"My son! Let me go!" The woman wept the name of her son as she scratched and bit the arms that were pulling her along, but nothing seemed to be working, making her look even more helpless.
Seeing that the woman still had a lot of fight within her, one of the soldiers ran out of the circle and smacked her at the back of her neck with the handle of his gun, knocking the woman outcold.
"Chief Li! What are you doing?" Dacheng came running after he heard what was happening. He marched up the platform and questioned the man who was watching the separation happening. "I heard that you allowed this to happen? Didn’t we agree that we would take the elderly and the children along with us?"
Dacheng couldn’t understand what the man was even trying to do. Even though these elderly and the children did not have many advantages, he had a feeling that this batch of children was really smart and talented. They would certainly awaken as strong ability users. But from the actions of Chief Li, it was clear that he was not going to bring either the children or the elders with him.
What was going on? Earlier, he was ready to bring them with their convoy. But now all of a sudden the man had changed his mind, and that too without showing any signs of changing his mind. What happened all of a sudden?
Chief Li turned to look at the man who was speaking to him and arched a brow. He softly said to Dacheng, "Taking them along with us will only cause trouble for our team. It’s better if we send them to Bai Meiyue’s safe base and let her raise them. Anyway, she is already raising more than enough orphans and the elderly. A few more will not make any change."
"But—"
"No buts." Chief Lin spoke in a final sort of voice. He glanced at Dacheng, who seemed unhappy with his decision and sighed. He raised his hand and patted Dacheng on the shoulder before saying to him, "I know that we are making a mistake, but let me tell you something. The capital is far away from the cloud city, and it will take more than three months for us to arrive there. Do you think we have the supplies to raise so many people? It’s better to separate before things become troublesome for us."
He then glanced at the crying children and mothers before adding, "And there is no need for them to cry either. I am sending their kids to Bai Meiyue. She is going to raise these children just as well."
Then he walked away, leaving Dacheng to fume alone. He glanced at the boy who was crying and pursed his lips in anger. Among the rest of the children, Dacheng was sure that this child would soon awaken as a powerful ability user, and yet—these idiots wanted to send these kids to Bai Meiyue.
Dacheng felt truly frustrated, but there was nothing that he could do at the moment.
They broke through the encirclement of the zombies, with the soldiers firing at the corpses and the mutated bugs alike.
As for Bai Feng and his team, they were currently surrounded by the mutated bugs and corpses. Bai Feng left the encirclement wanting to get some resources for his team, but even after he was gone for more than three hours, he didn’t return, which worried the rest of the team.
