Chapter 58: Chapter 58: Qi Tao’s Pettiness

Leng Chuan gritted his teeth, his body simmering with fury. He tried to restrain his temper and demanded, his voice sounded hoarse. "How did you meet them?"

He already had a guess, but he still wanted to hear it from this poisonous woman’s mouth.

Qi Mian’s swallowed. She was just a weak female beastman. The illusion from life in the city had made her arrogant, though at the same time she still knew how to manipulate people. Under the premise they didn’t know her true personality, of course.

People like Leng Chuan and Ma Yongcheng already knew what kind of person she was, unfortunately.

She was scared when she faced them; her lips trembled and she stuttered, "I-I met them not long after I escaped the cave."

Her eyes darted around, avoiding meeting Leng Chuan’s. Hoping he wouldn’t know what she was thinking or the things he had done. Still, with Leng Chuan’s brain, how could he not piece the clues together?

"I know you did it." He spat, his eyes were filled with hatred.

Qi Mian felt as if a venomous snake was staring at her, and she looked away.

"You were the one who told them I was still there, right? You deliberately lied to them and led them to danger." Leng Chuan breathed out.

Seeing that the three beastmen were no longer around her, it seemed that they had perished. As for the monkey beastman, there was no need to ask. It would be a miracle if he survived.

"Tsk, this pair of siblings is really something!" Ma Yongcheng slammed the branch above Qi Mian’s head, and the latter jolted in fear. The branch actually split into two, making her uncomfortable.

"If we cut open your hearts, I wonder what kind of color they will be. It must have been black!" Ma Yongcheng continued. He felt scared and concerned at the same time.

Scared in case what would happen if they hadn’t made it in time? Would they have hurt his wife and kids? He was a little irritable just by thinking about it.

He was also concerned about Leng Chuan’s siblings. They had met this insidious woman!

"Pray that my siblings are alright, Qi Mian, or I will make you suffer the same fate as them. If they lose their arms, I will also slash your arms. If they lose their eyes, I will also gouge out yours." Leng Chuan told her in a calm tone as if he was talking about the weather.

Qi Mian was shocked. She hurriedly tried to explain. "Leng Chuan, it’s not my fault!"

"I just told them where you were. I-I already said to them that you are no longer in the cave too, but they still insisted." She tried to look up at Ma Yongcheng with some fear. "Your other fellow villagers were with them."

"They didn’t even stop your siblings from heading toward danger," she tried to push the blame away.

"My fellow villagers? The village head?" Ma Yongcheng’s face changed. "How are they? Are they safe?"

As if a drowned person grasping at straws, Qi Mian nodded furiously. She gulped nervously. "I-I can tell you about them too. I spent some time with them!"

Ma Yongcheng’s lips curled up into a disdainful smile. "So, you two were pretending to be innocent, blending into our village head’s group while secretly trying to find information about me, wasn’t it?"

Qi Mian froze. Why does this man always have something to nitpick? Everything can be twisted negatively in his perspective. However, she had to admit he had hit the nail in the head.

She and her brother hadn’t expected that the wild forest could be so perilous. They arrived with excitement, full of fantasy how easy it would be to hunt fierce beasts.

There were also fierce beasts near their city, and they always found a game with their current power. Yet, after they arrived in this forest area near the dangerous zone, their wild ambitions were shattered.

The fierce beasts were out of their league with their current power. The deer that her brother had his eyes on was one of the few fierce beasts with lower power levels.

He and his group had been following it for a while, not daring to confront it directly for fear it would run away. Or to be exact, it was also because of their similar strength.

Once the deer ran away, they might not be able to catch it. As a fierce beast, it was one of the fastest ones. Its hooves were also powerful, so they exercised the utmost caution in order not to be injured.

That was where Qi Tao’s group came in conflict with Ma Yongcheng’s hunting team. The latter only took half an hour before they subdued the deer with repeated firing of their arrows and a long chase.

They hadn’t noticed Qi Tao’s group because their focus was on the deer. Of course, the two groups clashed and ended up having a long episode of disagreement, nearly coming to blows before Ma Yongcheng relented slightly.

"I will give half of the deer to you," he had generously said back then, not wanting to engage in a senseless argument.

He didn’t expect that the man would hold a grudge, even until now.

Qi Tao and his people’s ego seemed to have been provoked, and yet at the same time, the hunger from the unsuccessful hunt made them unable to refuse his offer.

Qi Mian was captured by the traffickers not long after Ma Yongcheng. In total, she had met Ma Yongcheng’s fellow villagers once, which was a few days ago, but her brother had met them twice.

The first one was when he was searching for his sister. The group kindly took them in, sharing the prey they hunted. He wore a long robe and covered half his face with a mask, and as such, the Ma Yongcheng’s hunting team didn’t recognize him.

The second time they met again, he was with Qi Mian, separated from their tribe members.

Leng Chuan didn’t pursue the matter with Qi Mian for the time being, he went to find Xie Ziyuan. In a nervous voice, he begged him, "Master Xie, please help me find my siblings!"
