Apocalyptic Beastworld: A Farming Space Dimension to Another World-Chapter 35: Miss Owner
Lin Yu’an’s eyes were brimming with curiosity while the other two huddled against each other in fright. He seemed to be more timid among beastmen, but was braver when he heard about ghosts.
Even Xie Ziyuan couldn’t help but glance at him slightly.
"There is really a ghost. You are scared?" Xie Ziyuan asked, his tone laced with slight disdain.
Ma Yongcheng and Leng Chuan glanced at each other, wondering who he was referring to. At this moment, they realized how close they were with each other. The two recoiled away from each other in disgust.
They were about to open their mouths to make fun of each other but Xie Ziyuan’s presence held them back.
"Is there really a ghost?" Ma Yongcheng asked nervously. The big, burly man was looking around suspiciously. It was already dark, and he suddenly felt that the surroundings became strange, as if they were moving on their own or there was a faint shadow.
Lin Yu’an also looked around without showing any fear. He didn’t notice anything strange, so he shifted his attention back to Xie Ziyuan in puzzlement.
The true owner of the base wasn’t him, so it was best to establish the awareness early.
"Yes." Xie Ziyuan nodded impassively. The moonlight streamed in through the gaps in the window, illuminating his figure. "But you don’t need to be afraid."
"But... it’s still a ghost, Master Xie. All the ghosts that have existed in the past are so fierce." Leng Chuan frowned.
Ghosts indeed still exist after the apocalypse. They were mostly vengeful ghosts from the beastmen who died unjust death filled with resentment. Beastmen’s souls were stronger than humans, so it took longer for them to dissipate.
If a soul is nourished by yin energy, they might turn into a vengeful ghost. There was no lack of dead villages around and as such, cases of vengeful ghosts weren’t few.
"She is not a vengeful ghost, don’t worry." Xie Ziyuan furrowed his brows, trying to describe the ghostly woman. "You are curious why there is a castle in the middle of nowhere in the dangerous zone, right?"
Their eyes lit up when they heard that. Xie Ziyuan was about to tell them, right? They had been dying to know, but no one was brave enough to ask.
"The owner of this castle isn’t me."
Xie Ziyuan’s voice echoed in the quiet hallway. Just in time for Lin Yuyao and others to step inside and hear his words.
They nearly dropped their jaws in shock.
"This huge base isn’t yours, Master Xie? Then... then... who is the owner?" Ma Yongcheng asked in surprise, almost stuttering in the process. It couldn’t be the ghost he was talking about, right?
Xie Ziyuan swept his sharp eyes at the approaching beastmen. He made sure his voice was loud and clear.
"She doesn’t want to reveal herself for now, and is entrusting this base to us. You all should treasure this chance. She might be watching you from a place you can’t see," he told them.
The surrounding became quiet in an instant, only heavy breathing echoed in the dimly-lit hallway. The most shocked were undoubtedly the Lin siblings.
"Also, don’t call her a ghost." Xie Ziyuan didn’t forget to warn them. "She might not like it if you call her that."
Seeing that he had achieved the effect he wanted, he was a little satisfied.
"A-alright," Ma Yongcheng muttered, eyes still wide in surprise.
"Master Xie," Zhou Yunhan called out. He thought about how to phrase his question. "Then, what is the purpose of the Miss Owner for letting us live here?"
Even Xie Ziyuan only had a faint understanding of her true purpose regarding that. However, for the time being, she knew her goal for the base.
"She wants to build a base," he answered. "To grow this base so that a lot of beastmen can live a decent life in the apocalypse."
If his words are incorrect, that ghostly woman can go and tell them her true purpose herself, he thought.
He swept his gaze toward the people present and didn’t miss anyone’s expression. Some harbored doubt with a hint of hope, but mostly were filled with excitement.
"Then, until she comes back, we have to grow the base well." Mo Lingfeng suddenly said seriously. "We can’t let down Miss Owner’s good intention."
Xie Ziyuan subconsciously heaved a sigh of relief and let out the breath he didn’t know he was holding. Everyone’s reaction was good enough.
At last, he didn’t forget to remind them. "She might come here once a while. If you notice anything strange, don’t think too much about it."
They all had heard Xie Ziyuan mentioned about ghosts earlier, so they already had some idea what kind of form Miss Owner would take in case she really came...
Although they were a little apprehensive, they didn’t entirely feel it was that strange. Such a high-tech place was already too weird in their current era. It looked like something that would come out of a storybook.
Xie Ziyuan secretly examines their expressions. He had been watching all of them ever since they entered the base and determined that most of them were decent people.
Lin Yu’an had done an excellent job in weeding out malicious people from the group.
"You all continue." He turned to Lin Yu’an. "You follow me."
Xie Ziyuan’s words brought everyone back to their senses. As he walked away from the small crowd, he weirdly felt an odd sense of satisfaction.
At least it was him who told everyone about her existence, which meant that he was the first one to know about her! Everyone’s awareness would make things more convenient.
The ghostly woman was a little restless, after all. She liked to do this and that. There were still many underdeveloped areas in the base, especially the underground place. She might have more plans with them later.
Judging from the way she could magically put things in his inner space, she should be able to do that to the castle too. As such, if a random building suddenly appeared out of nowhere, he didn’t want them to panic.
"Master Xie, did I do something wrong?" Lin Yu’an asked him nervously.
They were currently alone, walking away from the residential wing toward the front of the castle. Xie Ziyuan didn’t answer his question, making him fiddle with his fingers in anxiety.
Soon, they arrived at a huge room.
Su Yining logged in to the game again. Weirdly, she felt a subtle change she couldn’t put her finger on...
