Apocalyptic Beastworld: A Farming Space Dimension to Another World-Chapter 19: Recruitment
The monkey beastman was gasping for breath, falling on the ground with tremor. Everyone was alarmed, yet no one dared to come to help him.
What had happened outside? They wondered. Their gazes involuntarily fell on Master Xie’s chamber.
On the ground, the monkey beastman’s chest heaved up and down, his eyes filled with boundless fear. He just laid there, unmoving. His blood pooled around him.
"Help... me..." he croaked out weakly, gazing at them. His eyes filled with hope.
No one came forward.
He didn’t give up, continuously asking them to help him.
"What happened?" The man who had proposed to barge into Xie Ziyuan’s chamber opened his mouth first, breaking the silence under almost inaudible whispers. They asked the question everyone had in their heart.
They all stared at the monkey beastman, waiting for his answer. He coughed out, spitting out some blood. "Help... I will... tell you."
The man frowned. He stayed where he was. "What do you mean help you? We don’t even know what you have encountered. If we accidentally get the contaminated substance in our skin, it will be terrible."
"No..." The monkey beastman desperately shook his head. They can see that even speaking was painful for him.
The man no longer paid him any attention after he couldn’t get any useful information. Soon, they heard a noise from Xie Ziyuan’s chamber again.
Lin Yu’an had moved the wooden plank covering the entrance. His sister and Xie Ziyuan soon emerged from within.
The Lin siblings were stunned when they saw a bloodied beastman on the ground. They tried to recall who he was.
Xie Ziyuan didn’t even glance at him. Instead, he was staring at the rows of beastmen in front of him, who had become quiet and well-behaved upon his presence.
This time, the relapse from his old illness took a shorter duration. Because he was unconscious the entire time, he also didn’t suffer much.
His eyes swept over the most powerful beastmen presence—the three caged carnivores.
"Does anyone have any idea where they have placed the keys?" He asked in a deep voice.
No one dared to speak, finding his gaze too intimidating. They all avoided his eyes...
Since the monkey beastman had wounds on his eyelids, he naturally closed his eyes to lessen the pain. Hence, he didn’t see who was speaking.
He was the first one to break the silence. "I know... I know..."
Xie Ziyuan fixed his eyes on him. His gaze was cold. Standing beside him, the Lin siblings became worried. They had counted the total number of beastmen, and this additional one person laying on the ground... 𝒻𝓇𝑒𝘦𝘸𝑒𝒷𝓃ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝒸ℴ𝘮
He should be the despicable monkey!
"Speak," Xie Ziyuan ordered.
"Outside... with them..." the monkey beastman muttered.
The Lin siblings exchanged glances. They didn’t know whether the monkey beastman had gone to retrieve the keys from the traffickers’ corpses. Most likely, he hadn’t.
Whatever his intention was, they knew it was never a good one. So, naturally they were worried Xie Ziyuan wouldn’t recognize this insidious monkey because he was covered in wounds.
They had told him about what the monkey had done. Thankfully, Xie Ziyuan didn’t blame them. He even helped them examine Lin Yu’an’s wound.
The result was, his contamination level was normal.
Judging from the monkey beastman’s severe injuries, the situation outside seemed to be perilous. They suspected he had met a bunch of fierce beasts!
"No one has seen the keys in this room?" Xie Ziyuan murmured almost rhetorically. His gaze fell on the three carnivore beastmen.
Naturally, they could see Xie Ziyuan’s scrutinizing gaze.
"We are not in a hurry, Master Xie." The black panther beastman suddenly spoke up. "You are our benefactor. We don’t want you to be burdened further by this trouble."
He was quite tactful. However, at the same time, he was secretly assessing Xie Ziyuan’s intention. Most of the time, when high-ranking beastmen pass by trafficker’s den, they would turn a blind eye.
Unless they had an ulterior motive.
Xie Ziyuan didn’t answer. Instead, he brought up another topic. "What’s all of your plans after leaving this place?"
Upon hearing his question, some revealed a stunned look while most beastmen frowned. When the Lin siblings came back and brought a helper to rescue them, they were still enveloped by a sense of euphoria at the idea of freedom.
They didn’t think about such matters yet. Indeed, it was a problem.
However... since this silver wolf beastman brought up this topic, did he have a solution? They pondered.
Some beastmen still had families, so they spoke up, wanting to return to their home. There were only two people who said that, the rest were silent.
At this moment, like an excellent assistant, Lin Yuyao opened her mouth and offered, "Master Xie is willing to take you in if you want. We are going to build a survival base. Of course..." she glanced at Xie Ziyuan and saw him nodding at her.
She continued, "But we only take people with good moral value." She glanced at the squirming monkey beastman with disdain. Such a person would bring chaos and betray them in the future for the sake of interest!
Everyone was startled when they heard that. Immediately, they were asking for the details, like the location and the requirements. She said all of the things she had agreed with Xie Ziyuan beforehand.
For the location, they couldn’t reveal it for the time being. "I can assure you that our place is wide enough to accommodate anyone. With a nice shelter too! Soft bedding, free from cold or rain. Oh right, we also emphasize that we won’t take any idlers."
They sent each other a discreet glance filled with hesitation.
"How about our food?" Someone suddenly asked. Others stared at Lin Yuyao with anticipation. This was the most important matter too.
They had seen Xie Ziyuan casually dividing the game he hunted for them.
"There will be food." Lin Yuyao nodded, her face serious. "It’s just that the food isn’t free. But you can contribute something to the base and get a meal."
The hesitation in their eyes dissipated slightly. If someone offered them free food, they would even be more suspicious.
The eyes of a certain beastman flashed. He raised his hand. After Lin Yuyao allowed him to speak, his question seemed to pour cold water on the hopeful beastmen.
"Seeing that fellow’s condition..." he trailed off. "How will we reach your base safely if there are many fierce beasts outside? We don’t want to end up like him."
