Apocalypse: Transmigrated General's Daughter Uses Space to Survive-Chapter 541: Preparing to Leave the Base
Chu Miao went back to her room to rest. That night she had a lot on her mind. When Ye Xuan left the Soul Ring late at night, she was still not asleep.
Ye Xuan seemed to understand her quite well. It was clear how close their relationship had been back in the Immortal Realm.
"Still thinking about the dead survivors?" He asked as he cleaned up and climbed into bed.
He held her close to his chest so that she could feel his heartbeat.
It was a habit she had developed while in the Immortal Realm. Whenever she was conflicted, she would lie on his chest and listen to his heartbeat, and for some reason, it always calmed her down.
Now that they both had memories of the past, old habits had resurrected.
Chu Miao lay quietly for a while before replying, "Do you think if I had decided to advance earlier and killed those zombies with the lightning tribulation, so many people wouldn’t have died?"
Chu Miao had left the Soul Ring consciously connected to the outside world. If someone inside wanted to know what was happening outside, they would as long as they expended a little divine sense.
Chu Miao was aware that even while cultivating, Ye Xuan had still been observing everything going on outside.
"But if you had done that, you would have denied them a chance to measure their true strength and an opportunity to grow.
Don’t forget that it is only through battles that we grow stronger.
If you take that away from them, it would be worse than them dying on the battlefield." Ye Xuan always knew what to say and this simple truth seemed to wake up Chu Miao.
That was true. Even she had accumulated enough spiritual energy to breakthrough after the first battle.
If she denied the others the same opportunity, that would have been selfish of her.
Any soldier going into battle was prepared to die, and her moping around was invalidating their contribution and sacrifice.
"Thanks, I understand." Chu Miao thanked Ye Xuan and kissed him on the chin before closing her eyes to sleep.
With a satisfied smile on his face, Ye Xuan also went to sleep.
The following morning, the president issued a rest order for all survivors in the base.
There would be no patrol or scavenging missions for two days.
Every survivor who lived in the base, whether they had participated in the battle or not, were ordered to rest, because they deserved it.
Those injured in battle also needed time to heal, so it was only right that they rest.
This gesture from the president alone was enough to fill all survivors with gratitude.
They were glad that they still had such a caring leader even when the world had turned upside down.
Inside the conference room, Chu Miao, Ye Xuan, Grandpa Chu, Grandpa Li, President Yu, Commander Shen, and other leaders sat together one last time.
"Thank you, for helping us annihilate such a big zombie tide. If it weren’t for Little Miao discovering the zombie leader earlier and finding out about the attack, we would probably have been ambushed without preparations and this base would be gone." Commander Shen stood up and bowed deeply to Chu Miao.
This made Chu Miao uncomfortable, especially knowing that she was only fulfilling her mission.
She hurriedly waved her hand and an invisible force lifted Commander Shen forcing him to stand up straight.
This action shocked the commander who had always suspected that the strength the team from City A had was more than they showed.
However, he didn’t say anything and just sat back down.
"The commander is right, without you guys, we would have perished.
Moreover, after getting rid of so many zombies amounting to millions, we won’t face such a large-scale attack for at least a year.
This is important time you bought for us because we will have enough time to rebuild.
The only thing we will have to worry about is the constant changes in the weather.
Recently, the temperatures have been going down and now they have almost hit that of winter. 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝙬𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝒎
Such a surprise, experiencing winter in July." President Yu added.
"It looks like we are going to have the opposite of the extreme heat we experienced.
It’s better if you get your people to start collecting winter supplies. And not just the common winter supplies.
Find everything that could keep people warm. Find a way to warm their residences.
That means you will have to find a way to settle those people living in tents in the South." Grandpa Chu poured cold water on President Yu, but this didn’t discourage him.
We have survived several disasters, we will survive those coming." President Yu wasn’t beaten down and cheered himself up.
Chu Miao looked at the old men discussing the future of the base and began feeling out of place.
"Don’t waste the time you have. Strengthen your defenses and internal order." She said as she stood up to leave.
President Yu stood up and looked at Chu Miao, not as a young girl, but as an equal. He then bowed deeply.
"This base owes you a debt we might never be able to repay. So, I can only say thank you."
Chu Miao stopped in her tracks wondering if these old men were trying to shorten her lifespan by bowing to her at every turn.
This time, she didn’t stop him as all the leaders of the base except Commander Shen stood up to bow as well.
She could feel the power of faith penetrating into her body and settling in the space it had created the day before next to her dantian.
"Live well." She said finally. "That will be enough payment."
That was true. Her mission was to ensure earth survived the zombie apocalypse, and if more people lived well, then her mission would be done.
After the meeting, Ye Xuan walked beside her as they left the building.
