Apocalypse: Transmigrated General's Daughter Uses Space to Survive-Chapter 143: Chu Batian
Chapter 143: Chapter 143: Chu Batian
Chu Miao looked towards the pedestal in astonishment upon seeing the old man appear out of thin air. She wondered whether there was another room down below the pedestal.
Her eyes moved from his feet wearing sheepskin boots that looked like they had been designed for the winter season.
Moving upwards, was a white robe tightened on the waist by a black belt made of a material similar to the silk piece of cloth that had been covering the scroll.
She knew that the material must have been the same and it was definitely not ordinary silk. Otherwise, that piece of cloth wouldn’t be intact even after thousands of years without rotting away.
Her eyes moved further upwards and examined the beard that ended at the chest. It was almost impossible to see an old man with such a long beard nowadays.
Then looking up at his face, even though he was calling an old man, it was only because of his dressing style and white hair and beard.
The person in front of them had a handsome face with a full forehead, phoenix eyes, a sharp and straight nose, and slightly plump lips.
His pupils were spirited and bright, not like those of an old man at all. One hand was scratching his long beard while the other was placed on a sword hanging on his waist.
Seeing how straight and firm he stood, it was easy to tell that he was a warrior or something similar.
Chu Miao blinked her eyes as she felt a sense of familiarity from this figure. As if she had seen him somewhere before, but she was sure that this was her first time encountering him.
Chu Hao on the other hand had frozen on the spot after the man appeared. He was still squatting in front of Chu Miao without knowing whether to stand up and greet the senior or just keep examining his sister.
The old man looked down at this pair of siblings and smiled. Even though he had been dead for a long time, he had left a wisp of his divine soul behind when the space ring was crafted as a means for retreat for the Chu family.
At that time, he and other several elders of the family had found out through divination that the world would face a crisis that could wipe out all of humanity.
However, there was a way to save some people to facilitate future survival. Even though many people had sacrificed their lifespans to find a solution, looking at the siblings in front of him. He felt that all the sacrifices had been worth it.
"Won’t you get too tired squatting there like that for so long?" The old man suddenly spoke which caught both Chu Miao and Chu Hao off guard.
They had thought that he was an illusion and couldn’t speak or see them. Turns out they were wrong.
Upon finding out that he was a real senior and not an illusion, they both hurriedly stood up and bowed towards the pedestal where the senior was.
"Greetings senior." They greeted him in unison.
"You can stand up. No need for such formalities." The old man replied with a smile.
Chu Miao looked up and seeing the smile, she thought that this senior didn’t look too bad. She wondered if he was the owner of the inheritance they had received.
She decided to just ask and find out.
"Senior, was the inheritance we got left here by you?"
"Yes. My name is Chu Batian. If you can now access this part of the Soul ring it means that thousands of years have passed since it was made, and since my demise." The old man, who introduced himself as Chu Batian, responded.
"Soul ring?" Chu Miao asked.
"The space ring you are now inside of is called a soul ring because unlike other space rings, it doesn’t contract using the physical body but the soul.
Once it recognizes you as its master, it will not change even if you die unless your soul is extinguished." Chu Batian explained further.
This explanation allowed Chu Miao to understand why the space ring had traveled through space and time with her from the ancient era to the modern world.
"From what you are saying, this Soul ring was designed to open in stages depending on the situation?" Chu Hao asked this time as he also raised his head that had been lowered the whole time to face the senior.
"Yes. When it was made, it was created because a divination had predicted the end of the world where people will turn into monsters and other dangerous disasters will occur wiping out humanity.
Saying this, Chu Batian looked into the space with a distant look and sighed with a melancholic expression on his face.
He opened his mouth and words flowed out again, "When the divination was made, the family head of the Chu family at the time chose to inform other powerful families and sects.
He had thought that if other powers found out, they could work together to find a way to prevent the crisis, or at least find a way to preserve part of humanity.
However,no one believed him. Many said that the divination had been wrong. Others simply thought that the incident was predicted to happen thousands of years later and they probably wouldn’t be alive by then.
So, it didn’t affect them. Others thought that they would have cultivated immortality and wouldn’t be affected by some minor disasters.
In the end, only the Chu family cared. The elders and patriarch didn’t want the family left behind by our ancestors to disappear later, so they started to conduct frequent divinations to find a solution.
Even though you both look young, you should at least know that every time you peek at the secrets of the heavens, you must pay a price." Chu Batian explained.
"Yes, we know." Both Chu Miao and her brother replied.
"Because the family did too many divinations, many powerful family members lost their lifespan and ages faster and died.
This had caused a crisis in the family as other families started to attack us. Fortunately, as a family of generals with a deep legacy, we still manage to hold on and not completely disintegrate.
Fortunately, we found a way to protect the Chu family from extinction once the disaster struck. We created this space ring and after seeing the greediness of humans, we were worried that the ring would fall into the hands of enemies and benefit them, while our family suffered.
As such, the ring was refined into a Soul ring that could only be activated with the bloodline of the Chu family. Moreover, the soul must also possess the same bloodline."
