Chapter 27: Chapter 27 Planting

The manager scratched his head. "This isn’t a regular order."

"Don’t you sell it wholesale?" Laurel replied quietly.

The manager stared at her, unsettled by how calm she looked, then he cleared his throat. "Alright... tell me the quantity you want."

Laurel didn’t just need drinking water. She needed enough for washing, farming, and emergencies.

This time, she didn’t negotiate. She didn’t care about getting the lowest price, she only cared about surviving. The apocalypse was almost here, and she needed to get everything ready.

"Give me enough to sustain a small city for five years." She said

The manager stared at her with a look of concern but didn’t question her anymore. When he finished calculating, he inhaled sharply.

"That’s 15 million dollars."

Laurel nodded calmly. "Deliver it to this address." She wrote down the valley warehouse location.

The manager looked even more shocked. "That’s a private valley area."

"Yeah," Laurel replied. 𝒻𝑟ℯℯ𝑤𝑒𝑏𝑛𝘰𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝒸𝑜𝘮

He stared for another second, then nodded slowly. "It’ll take a few hours."

"Good," Laurel made the payment with the black card.

As she walked back to her car, she exhaled deeply, like she had been holding her breath for a long time.

She drove straight to the valley. By the time she reached the gate, it was already afternoon. Nate, the bald guard, stood by the warehouse entrance like a statue. When Laurel’s car drove in, he quickly straightened his back.

"Ma’am," he greeted.

Laurel nodded. "How’s the warehouse? Any problem?"

"No, ma’am," Nate replied.

"That’s good, if anyone comes to deliver goods, don’t let them know I’m here," Laurel replied as she stepped out.

"Yes, ma’am," Nate replied politely.

Laurel walked inside the warehouse and changed her clothes. Afterwards, she went to the back of the warehouse.

Her hair was tied into a bun, and she wore a pair of gloves.

She stood at the edge of the cleared land, staring at the soil with satisfaction. The ground was loose and soft, ready for planting. She thought of the seeds she wanted to plant, tomatoes, potatoes, corn, beans, and millet.

They all materialized from her space to the ground. Laurel nodded, pleased by how efficient the system was.

She picked up two wooden stakes and pushed them into the ground, then tied a rope between them to mark a straight row.

After that, she crouched down and opened the seed sack. She took the corn seed and a small trowel.

She used the small trowel to poke holes into the soil, spacing them evenly. Then, she dropped two seeds per hole, covering them gently, pressing the soil down with her palm.

After she was done planting the corn, she started planting the beans, and afterward the potatoes.

After she was done planting the potatoes, Laurel wiped the sweat off her forehead with the back of her glove.

Her back ached slightly from bending for so long, however, she ignored the discomfort and continued working. She moved to the next section, picked up the millet seeds, and poured a little into her palm.

Millet seeds were tiny, almost like sand. She scattered them carefully across the soil, making sure they weren’t too clumped together. Then she used a rake to drag loose soil over them lightly, just enough to cover them without burying them too deep.

Ling Xuan’s voice finally rang out in her head, sounding irritated.

"You want to switch? I don’t want the system to think I’m bullying you."

Laurel sighed. She didn’t trust Ling Xuan with the delicate planting, and she didn’t want anything to go wrong. She would rather do it alone, but who knows if she would turn the seeds and soil into a training section. "It’s fine, I can continue."

"Okay.," Ling Xuan replied flatly.

Next were the tomatoes.

She paused, staring at the tomato seeds for a moment, then decided not to plant them directly in the open field.

The hot weather was coming. Even if the soil was good, the seedlings were delicate. If the heatwave hit too early, they would die before they even had a chance.

So instead, Laurel walked back toward the warehouse and grabbed a few plastic containers and trays she found in one of the empty storage rooms.

She poked small holes under them, filled them with soft soil, and carefully planted the tomato seeds inside.

Then she carried them back out and placed them close to the warehouse wall, where they would still get sunlight but not be fully exposed.

When she was done, she stood up slowly and looked at her work, with a satisfied expression. She stretched her hands and waist.

Then the system’s screen suddenly flickered in front of her.

[Mission Completed: First Planting Successful.]

[Reward: 250 points

[Basic irrigation assistance

Laurel’s eyes widened slightly.

"Irrigation channel?" she muttered, staring at the floating screen like it was a miracle.

Ling Xuan muttered. "Finally, something useful."

Laurel looked back at the field. The corn and beans were planted in neat rows, the potatoes were buried properly, and the millet was covered lightly.

But without water, all of it could still fail.

The stream was close, yes... but carrying buckets up and down would waste her energy, and she didn’t have time to play farmer by hand when the apocalypse was already knocking on the door.

"System," Laurel said quietly, "use it."

[Confirm: Basic irrigation assistance?]

"Yes."

The moment the words left her mouth, the soil in front of her trembled slightly.

A thin line formed in the earth, cutting through the rows like it had been dug by professionals. Then another formed, and another, forming a web of channels across the cleared soil.

The shallow channels appeared smoothly, stretching between the crops, connecting them like veins.

Laurel watched in silence, stunned by how fast it was done.

When the last channel was completed, a soft blue glow flickered for a second above the field, then disappeared.

Laurel chuckled happily. "So... it really works." She prayed she would unlock abilities like this that made farming easier.

Laurel’s gaze drifted toward the gate, just as the distant sound of engines rumbled through the valley.
