Apocalypse Landlord: My Tenants Are All Beautiful Heroines.-Chapter 61: Hobgoblin Hunt
While Aiden was busy erecting facilities throughout the building, the wolves departed to complete the assigned quest.
"What kind of a mission is this?" Elena Renault, one of the female wolves, asked Marcus. "Capture hobgoblins? Does this landlord even know how difficult it would be to hunt one, let alone capture one alive?"
"Shut your mouth, Elena," Marcus shot back. "I won’t tolerate any slander against Mr. Black."
The entire group was surprised by Marcus’s tone. Everyone knew he treated Elena like a daughter and had never used such a tone on her. Not even when she had run them into trouble.
However, it wasn’t just him. Both Glenn and Damian disapproved of Elena’s tone. While they didn’t know why Aiden wanted the monsters brought to them alive, they trusted him.
"Besides, the quest is to just bring them back alive," Glenn said. "It doesn’t mention the state they need to be. We can sever their limbs and bring them back, and it would still count."
Damian nodded.
"Besides, it’s an easy way to get Evo-Gear," Glenn continued, pointing at the reward screen. "We have used the gauntlets once, and trust me, the goblins stand no chance against them."
Technically, they had fought ghouls, but there was no point mentioning that. Besides, to make their jobs easier, Aiden even marked potential locations where they’d find goblins.
In reality, he only showed them the spots marked on his map. Aiden wanted to check how accurate the system’s assessment was in that regard.
"Evo-Gear..."
Everyone got silent at the mention of Evo-Gear. Although they had found most of the Evo-Gear, which was stored in the camp’s treasury, none of them ever used one.
Only evolvers could use Evo-Gear. Since none of them fit the criteria and didn’t have special abilities, they could only look at them.
While there were Evo-Gear that could be used by non-evolvers, those were rare. So much so that they had only heard about them, never seen one.
But now, not only had they seen such gear in the hands of Marcus, Glenn, and Damian, they had a chance to get one themselves.
Suddenly, the task of capturing hobgoblins alive didn’t seem so absurd. If they could get Evo-Gear in exchange, they would even capture a troll and bring it back.
Just then, a shadow fell over them. Glenn immediately raised his riot shield over his head. A goblin bounced on the shield and fell to the ground.
It tried getting back up, but Damian’s kukri sliced the monster’s head before it could.
The wolves looked up and saw over a dozen goblins standing on the balcony of a building, looking down at them. From the looks of it, they had intended to take them out by surprise, but the plan failed because of their shadows.
"Looks like we’re here," Marcus replied, tucking the map back into his pocket.
"They aren’t the smartest bunch," Elena smirked, charging right in.
"Elena, wait!" Marcus called out, but she had already disappeared inside. "This girl! Come on, everyone, go!"
As soon as they stepped onto the staircase, two goblins lunged at them from the side.
Glenn stopped the right one with his shield, slamming it into the wall. The force of the shield, backed by the gauntlet, crushed the goblin.
The other goblin tried to attack Marcus, but with a punch from the gauntlet, the goblin’s head turned into a bloody mist.
"Critical hit again! God, I love this gauntlet!" Glenn exclaimed, throwing a punch in the air.
He threw the punch to celebrate, yet caught another goblin that had jumped from above. The gauntlet pierced through the goblin’s torso like a skewer.
"..."
While Glenn and Marcus were showing off their strength, the rest of them stood back in silence, looking at their weapons. What was the point of bringing guns if their gauntlets could pierce through flesh like that?
Marcus, on the other hand, didn’t wait for anyone and rushed up the stairs. Others followed him, reaching the top just to see Elena trapped in a net, surrounded by the goblins.
"Stupid girl!" Marcus yelled, charging towards the goblins.
"Marcus, don’t!" Elena screamed, but it was too late.
The snare trap got triggered, and Marcus went up, dangling upside down. The goblin saw him and snickered. Some even mocked his pose.
However, the laughter didn’t last for long as its head got crushed. However, it wasn’t the wolves that attacked the goblin, but a large, gray-skinned goblin. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝚠𝕖𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝕖𝚕.𝚌𝗼𝗺
It was twice the size of a normal goblin and was wearing a garland of human skulls around its neck. As if that wasn’t intimidating enough, it was jacked as hell.
As for why it killed its underling, it was a mystery no one knew.
"I never imagined consuming human flesh could build such a physique," Glenn mumbled.
"Not the time for your jokes! Cut me loose already, damn it!" Marcus yelled, hanging upside down.
Damian swiped his kukri, while Glenn caught their beloved partner in his arms.
"There you go, princess," Glenn couldn’t help but take a playful jibe at Marcus.
"Ugh, save your romance for later. Save me first!" Elena yelled, struggling against the net.
The wolves looked at her and then shrugged. They knew the moment she was free, she would charge at the hobgoblin and end up in even more trouble.
The group tacitly agreed not to let her out until they had subdued the hobgoblin.
"You three," Marcus said, pointing at the other wolves. "Deal with the goblins. Glenn, Damian, and I will deal with the hobgoblin."
As soon as he said that, Damian, wielding the blades in reverse grip, shot towards the hobgoblin. The goblins sensed the danger and lunged at him, but neither could even touch him.
The hobgoblin’s muscular hands shot towards him, wanting to crush Damian with a bear hug. But before it could close its arms, Damian jumped in the air, using the hobgoblin’s chest as a footing.
"Charge!"
The hobgoblin was so absorbed in watching Damian that he didn’t see Glenn charging right at him. He had brought both the riot shield and the ballistic shield in front of him as he charged towards the hobgoblin.
By the time it noticed Glenn, it was already too late. The shields hit him with full force. Simultaneously, Marcus, who had been running right behind Glenn, rolled to the right and swept the hobgoblin’s legs.
The monster fell to the ground with a thud. It was enraged. However, he looked up to see Damian falling on top of him.
"ROAR!!!"
It roared in fury, wanting to roll to the side. However, Glenn and Marcus held the creature in place. The tip of Damian’s blades was the last thing the hobgoblin saw, just as they stabbed into them.
