Apocalypse Foodie System: Watch Her Cook!-Chapter 57 - 53: Stirring Up Envy
Guan Jin was sent by Song Yunxiu to keep an eye on Chu Ning. It just so happened that Chu Ning wasn’t up to much lately, leaving him a bit restless with too much free time. In his idleness, he opened the "Food Empire" forum, stumbled upon the Qinghe City’s section, and happened to see a post titled "Raving About Today’s Red-Braised Pork" by a user named "Yayangdeyi".
He came from an affluent background; though he couldn’t claim to have eaten every delicacy in the world, he was a regular at all the renowned restaurants and had tried his fair share of fine foods since childhood. Even Mutated Beast Meat, which ordinary Superpower Users could hardly afford, was not new to him. When he saw the post title, he found it amusing, thinking the poster must have never eaten well, hence their astonishment over an ordinary dish like red-braised pork. Despite his nonchalance towards the dish, he clicked on the post simply because he was too bored.
After reading through it, he became interested in the little shop called "Tang Family" and even took the time to check it out. This visit made him really curious. Given his background and extensive palate, he could discern quality right away — he was a foodie! He knew good food when he saw it!
Everything in Tang Yiyi’s shop was captured with real shots and in 3D photographs, which looked exactly like the real thing at first glance. After going through each item, Guan Jin could tell the shop owner had decent skills. Plus, from the shop’s size and pricing, it was clear that the owner didn’t have much capital and was running a small business.
Suddenly, he had an idea: if the taste was as good as it seemed, he would bring the owner into his own restaurant!
But just as he was about to place an order, he was shocked to find out that the owner had restricted transactions to local cities only, refusing to take orders from other Safe Cities!
Guan Jin was instantly depressed — who does business like that!
Coupled with this frustration, someone in the post was livestreaming their receipt of the red-braised pork. Watching them devour the food ravenously on video made Guan Jin even more depressed, wanting to yank the person out of the screen and strangle them!
Eat, eat, eat! All you do is eat! Are you a pig or what!
Typically, he wouldn’t be so fixated on a dish like red-braised pork, but for some reason this time, he was obsessed. If he didn’t get to eat it, he felt uncomfortable all over — even his pampered stomach began to rebel!
Coincidentally, Song Yunxiu contacted him, and the moment their call connected, Yunxiu found Guan Jin looking utterly despondent, lacking any energy. Song Yunxiu immediately knew he was in one of his moods and asked helplessly, "What’s wrong with you?"
Guan Jin, still in a daze, replied instinctively with a feeble voice, "Boss, I want to eat red-braised pork."
Song Yunxiu’s face instantly darkened, his gaze turning cold. The intensity of his glare felt almost tangible, and even through the video call, Guan Jin shivered, waking up entirely. Realizing what he just said, Guan Jin awkwardly pulled a smile, then pretended nothing had happened, asking seriously, "Boss, what do you need?"
Song Yunxiu had just had a not-so-appropriate dream the night before, feeling a bit wistful upon waking. He impulsively wanted Guan Jin to help figure out who the woman from the dream was. But seeing Guan Jin looking so unreliable, he immediately abandoned the idea, deciding to wait until he finished his current tasks.
Of course, he wasn’t going to share these thoughts with Guan Jin. He just looked at him with disdain and said coldly, "Remember your assignment; as long as it doesn’t affect your work, eat whatever you want!" With that, he rudely disconnected the call.
Once the call ended, Guan Jin immediately exhaled, rubbing his chest in relief, sighing, "Emma, that nearly scared me to death! Has the boss eaten gunpowder or something? His temper is off the charts!"
However, he only dared to grumble to himself, definitely not mentioning a word to anyone else, not even his partners. Having experienced the boss’s fierce pride, Guan Jin learned the hard way not to test his luck.
He checked the post again and found that in no time, many people started livestreaming videos, provoked by earlier footage, each one more exasperating than the last! Guan Jin watched for a bit, then found his mouth uncontrollably salivating, swallowing his drool several times before angrily closing the webpage. After tidying up, he headed straight to Songyun City’s most famous restaurant!
Guan Jin wasn’t the only one drooling. With more and more people livestreaming, the spectators of the post couldn’t resist either. Anyone financially capable placed an order at "Tang Family" to see if the taste was really as good as claimed.
This influx of orders disrupted Tang Yiyi’s plan. Since it was the first day and initial orders were few, she hadn’t prepared much ingredients. With orders coming in one after another, and customers becoming impatient, she had no choice but to buy more ingredients and quickly prepare them.
After she finished preparing the dishes, Sun Jian came back from deliveries. To get the orders out quickly and avoid making customers wait, he only had time for a sip of water before heading out again.
Because earlier customers livestreamed their orders, creating significant envy, subsequent customers followed suit by livestreaming upon receipt. Gradually, an otherwise ordinary post hit the popularity charts, attracting more viewers.
The once inconspicuous little shop, "Tang Family", with its unchanged decor, gained some fame in the "Food Empire" because of this wave.
But none of this concerned Pang Zhi, who was currently sitting on his custom-made ultra-luxurious massage chair, frowning as he looked at the opened food on the table.
When he placed the order, he didn’t expect it to taste good at all; he only bought it out of spite towards certain individuals. Who would have thought it tasted comparable to high-end restaurants, yet he simply couldn’t finish it!
Pang Zhi was troubled. The food was delicious, and he didn’t want to let others benefit from it, but he couldn’t eat it all. Would he have to throw the rest away? After contemplating for a while, his frown finally relaxed as he silently decided to store it in a container and eat it later.
At the same time, he opened Tang Yiyi’s shop online and immediately set it as a special favorite, ensuring he’d get notifications as soon as new items were listed.
But he wasn’t the only one paying attention to "Tang Family". Anyone who placed an order that day and received their delivery added it as a favorite after tasting the food.
When Sun Jian returned home after deliveries, he saw Tang Yiyi joyfully staring at her personal terminal, her bright smile dazzling his eyes and making his long-dead heart involuntarily flutter.
