Chapter 259 - 231 Wataru Playing Final Fantasy - Part 2

After creating his characters, Wataru eagerly continued his journey into Final Fantasy. As soon as he pressed start, another beautifully crafted 8-bit cutscene began playing, setting the stage for the grand adventure ahead. The atmosphere was thick with anticipation as the story unfolded before him.

The world lay in darkness. The four elemental Crystals—Earth, Fire, Water, and Wind—had lost their brilliance, throwing the land into chaos. Crops withered, oceans became restless, and powerful storms ravaged the lands. Monsters grew stronger, and despair spread across every kingdom. From the depths of legend, the ancient sage Lukahn's prophecy echoed across the world, foretelling the arrival of the chosen ones who would restore balance.

Lukahn's Prophecy: "When the world is veiled in darkness, four Warriors of Light shall come. If they cannot gather the shards of light, darkness will consume all..."

The screen transitioned, showing a vast kingdom—Cornelia, the most prosperous land in this troubled world. The camera panned across the bustling city in 8 bit, filled with merchants, knights, and common folk unaware that their world teetered on the brink of destruction. Then, the focus shifted to the castle, where the King of Cornelia, filled with desperation and hope, pleaded for aid.

"Light Warriors! You must rescue my daughter, Sarah! The fiend Garland has taken her to the Chaos Shrine! He was once my greatest knight, but his heart has been consumed by darkness. I beg of you, bring her back safely!"

Wataru grinned. "Another princess to rescue! Classic RPG moment! I bet this guy's the tutorial boss."

With the quest set in motion, Wataru guided his team out of the castle and into the open world. The pixelated landscapes stretched before him—rolling green plains, winding rivers, towering forests, and distant mountains.

Before he could admire it too long, his first encounter arrived. The battle screen flashed before him, and six goblins stood ready to attack. The menu appeared, listing his options—Attack, Skills/Spells, Item, and Run. The turn-based system felt both familiar and refined, far more intricate than what he was used to in Dragon Quest. Wataru took a moment to examine his choices carefully.

The first turn belonged to Wataru 1, the Warrior. He selected the Skills/Spells option to check what was available. The only ability listed was Warrior Cry.

Warrior Cry: Increases the Warrior's attack power and resistance for a short duration. Mana Cost: 6.

"Whoa, a buff skill? That's useful! But my Warrior only has 7 mana... better save it for later." He backed out and selected Attack instead, directing his strike at the first goblin. The Warrior's massive sword slashed through the enemy, dealing heavy damage but not enough for an instant kill.

Next was Wataru 4, the White Mage. Her spell list contained two options—Cure and Dia. Cure was a healing spell, while Dia was an offensive holy spell that dealt triple damage to undead enemies. Since the goblins were just normal creatures, he opted for a standard attack.

"I'll save my magic for when things get tough. No need to waste MP now."

Then came Wataru 3, the Black Mage. His available spells were Fire, a basic offensive spell, and Decrease Focus, a debuff that reduced enemy accuracy. Wataru weighed his options before making a decision.

"Let's see some magic!" He selected Fire and unleashed it on one of the goblins. Flames erupted on the battlefield, completely incinerating the creature in an instant. "Nice! That felt powerful!"

The final turn went to Wataru 2, the Paladin. As expected, he was built as a defensive unit. His ability, Guard, allowed him to take reduced damage while standing in a protective stance. Since the battle was just beginning, Wataru decided to attack instead. The Paladin swung his mighty hammer, crushing one of the goblins with a devastating blow.

Blades clashed, spells exploded, and the goblins retaliated. One of them lunged at the Warrior, landing a weak hit that barely made a dent. Another attacked the Paladin, but his Guard skills absorbed most of the impact. The White Mage took a light hit, reminding Wataru that he needed to be careful—she wouldn't be able to withstand too many attacks.

Within a few more turns, Wataru's party had completely wiped out the enemy wave, earning their first victory. The results screen appeared, displaying the experience points and gold they had earned. Each character received a small boost, pushing them closer to their next level.

"Hehe, this battle system is really good! Feels like it has way more depth than Dragon Quest!" He tapped his foot excitedly. If the first battle was already this fun, he couldn't wait to see what else the game had in store for him.

Energized and ready, Wataru pressed forward, guiding his team across the open fields toward the Chaos Shrine. The map was dotted with random encounters, but the battles were fast-paced, keeping things engaging rather than tedious. Each new fight introduced him to stronger enemies, forcing him to think strategically about how to balance his party's health, magic, and attack power.

After fighting several battles, his team finally reached the steps of the Chaos Shrine. The ominous stone structure loomed before them, its entrance guarded by eerie statues worn down by time. Wataru's excitement grew—this was it, the first real challenge. Garland, the rogue knight, was waiting inside.

He gripped his controller, taking a deep breath. "Alright, let's do this! Time to rescue the princess!"

The real adventure was only just beginning.
