Chapter 506: Chapter 97: Everything is Open for Discussion_2

"I’m very sorry, young man, I know this is unfair to you, I ruined your rally..."

Jeff hastily gestured with his hands, saying, "It’s okay, my rally doesn’t matter at all. Please feel free to speak your mind, ma’am."

The old woman wiped away her tears, "I hope you can forgive me... I had no other choice, these days, I’ve been telling myself one thing."

"Justice doesn’t exist, it’s okay, mom’s still here, sorry, kids." After she said these words, she reached for her waist and pulled out an old-fashioned pistol, raising it high for all to see!

However, she didn’t aim at anyone, but lifted the barrel high towards the sky and without any hesitation in the camera’s view, she pulled the trigger!

"Bang bang bang bang bang bang~"

People screamed and ducked for cover, Jeff pushed the kids towards his wife, and then he rushed towards the child in front of Mrs. Parker. The moment Mrs. Parker pulled the trigger, he tackled the child to the ground, using his body to shield the youngster completely.

In the blink of an eye, the bullets were spent, and then, as the gun finally fell silent, two police officers came to their senses, raised their weapons and loudly signaled Mrs. Parker to put down the gun and raise her hands. Mrs. Parker didn’t resist; she dropped the pistol and placed her hands behind her head, allowing the two officers to come over and handcuff her hands behind her back. She struggled only to look toward her husband and grandson, offering a tearful smile, "I’m sorry, this was the only way I had, the only way to get everyone’s attention to this issue."

When the shots rang out, Martin pulled Tommy behind a nearby streetlight for cover, and only when the gunfire had stopped did he cautiously peek out. He was shocked to ask Tommy, who seemed more concerned about whether his coffee had spilled, "What the hell is this? Is this an election? Just because that woman’s last name is Kennedy, does she have to get a bullet in her head, just like her husband’s great-grandfather? Wait, look at Jeff... Did you give him the heads up too? He... he’s holding the child! He picked up the child! Dear God!"

"That wasn’t my design, that was his instinct. After all, Jeff likes kids, but the following drama, that’s for you to know," Tommy said, biting into a waffle.

Police first restrained Mrs. Parker, then carefully searched Mr. Parker and the child, making sure neither had weapons, before preparing to take both, along with Mrs. Parker, away from the scene. That’s when Jeff picked up the child and took hold of the megaphone:

"The child is innocent; he’s already been terrified today. Don’t subject him to even darker scenes at the police station."

"Sir, hand him over to us. I assure you he will receive proper care at the police station, and, please mind your language. Your recent speech, if pursued, could be construed as defamation of the police and of judicial fairness," the veteran police officer approached Jeff to negotiate.

"Do I even need to defame you? If the police station isn’t dark, then what you should be doing right now is catching the real murderer who killed this child’s parents! Not letting her run for senator!" Jeff roared like an angry lion.

The bystanders who were initially startled now came back to their senses. Hearing Jeff’s roar and seeing that the police had not only taken away the two seniors but also intended to take the little boy wearing a yarmulke, someone couldn’t help but join in, "That’s right! You should be catching the murderer of that child’s parents, not showing off your authority over an old lady who was shooting into the sky!"

"Call the Southern District Jewish Association! Have them go to the police station to help bail out the couple!"

People spoke up in all manner of ways, and even a few assertive Jewish individuals surrounded Jeff, loudly arguing with the police, trying to help him protect the scared child who was at that moment hanging onto Jeff’s shoulder, head buried.

"Make way, gentlemen!" The police, hands nervously on their holsters, said, "You are disrupting the order of this rally, obstructing police performing their duties, that’s a crime! Step back!"

"Gentlemen, step aside and don’t get hurt. Martin! Martin! Let my people handle this," Jeff attempted to persuade the Jewish onlookers, then shouted loudly.

Martin, who was still skittishly peering around, received a kick from Tommy, "Have your onsite team and the lawyers head over to push the police back, the main event begins. The famous lawyer offering to represent the elderly for free is already on the way to the police station." 𝑓𝑟ℯ𝘦𝓌𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝑐ℴ𝓂

Martin picked up the walkie-talkie, "Linda, Todd, take the lawyers over to handle the police, have them accompany the seniors to the station. There will be lawyers there, driven by a sense of justice, ready to take over."

Soon, the election team members and lawyers who had been on standby quickly arrived, and being quite adept at these matters, they soon rendered the two police officers speechless. After communicating with the police headquarters, they left the child with Jeff and arranged for two patrol cars to maintain order before taking the two seniors to the police station, with Jeff’s lawyer accompanying them.

After the police left, the local Jewish community came over intending to take the child from Jeff’s arms, but the child, seemingly petrified, clung tightly to Jeff’s neck and wouldn’t come down or respond to anyone’s words.

"I’ve already had my team contact a child psychologist who is on their way here," Jeff said while patting the boy’s back, addressing the crowd, "I’m so sorry, everyone. I’m sorry you had to meet me and the Democratic Party in this way. It seems somewhat hypocritical to say I didn’t know about these things, but in truth, I didn’t. I also don’t want this damned fundraising rally to continue under these circumstances, I’m sorry. I just want to return to our Democratic Party committee office in the Eighteenth District and verify whether this matter truly exists."
