America 1982-Chapter 374 - 37: Never Trust the American Dream_3
Actually, the other two rich men could have offered four million for a smile from the beauty, but obviously, after Stephen made his move, even if they put up another four million, they couldn’t outshine this guy.
Without much effort, this tennis beauty with Eastern European heritage became Stephen’s new girlfriend.
When Stephen told Tommy about this, Tommy could only sigh that the love life of the wealthy is so easy. It didn’t matter whether Lisa was moved by the five thousand acres of land or by the charm of the playboy Stephen. 𝘧𝓇ℯ𝑒𝓌𝑒𝑏𝓃𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘭.𝒸ℴ𝓂
"Lisa isn’t too bad, but she has no dreams, you know, Tommy? No dreams. Apart from tennis, she’s good for nothing else. I wouldn’t really want my girlfriend to be a woman who, except for playing tennis and spending my money, only knows how to lie in bed and help me carry on the family line. I gave her five thousand acres of land, and she was touched but had no ideas, no plans for it. I mean, I’m very rich, but I still have dreams, right? I’m still striving, still writing scripts, trying to leave my mark on the history of American cinema. And she actually wants to retire after this year’s season, marry me, and focus on having kids," Stephen said with a touch of frustration about his girlfriend.
In his eyes, despite having so much money, he was still working hard, while his girlfriend was ready to start a retired life at the age of twenty-four just because he was wealthy.
"Of course, you can hit on her, but can you follow my plan? I want to meet Mr. Wilson Block through her first." Tommy couldn’t care less about Stephen’s private life; he just wanted him to stick to the plan.
Stephen picked up Tommy’s pack of cigarettes, took one out for himself, and put it in his mouth. Tommy leaned in to light it for him. After a cloud of smoke billowed from Stephen’s mouth, he finally asked, "So, what’s the plan, Tommy?"
"Where does Zoey work again?" Tommy asked, putting away his lighter.
Stephen remembered where everyone from the CS group worked and lived. Every Christmas, he would personally write greeting cards and choose gifts to send to these friends. Tommy felt rather inferior in this regard, since he couldn’t remember these details and had to rely on Sophia or the staff to remind him so he would make a phone call to maintain the relationship.
"Zoey works as a news reporter at WORC Television Station in Worcester City, Massachusetts," Stephen said.
"I’m planning to start my own news network, and she doesn’t need to work for anyone else," Tommy said thoughtfully, picking up the phone he had put down earlier and dialing a number: "Jim~ good afternoon."
"Not good at all, I’m getting a headache from some stupid* problem someone threw my way," Jim replied impatiently on the other end. "Make it quick."
Tommy skipped the small talk and went straight to the point: "What’s the name of your lawyer friend again? The one who helped you start up with Lotus Corporation, in Massachusetts, right?"
"Partner at Hale and Dorr, White Shoe Law Firm, Robert," Jim said.
Tommy nodded, holding the phone, looking into the distance, and said, "Right, Robert. Have him check out Zoey Winters, the news reporter from WORC Television Station in Worcester City, Massachusetts. She seems to have an investigative report in progress. I mean, see if he can offer some help to the poor souls she’s investigating, like sponsoring some hush money for the station? Or maybe get your friend to intimidate the station a bit. In short, make some trouble, so the station fires her or they pressure her to resign. I’ll cover the costs."
"I remember there’s a girl named Zoey in your CS group?" Jim digested Tommy’s words, then added his comment.
Tommy didn’t deny it: "That’s her, the seemingly gentle yet tempestuous girl. In America, the four deadliest professions are accountants, journalists, lawyers, police officers, and she’s currently the second. I don’t want her to pass away too early because of her commitment to ideals and professional ethics, especially since I’m not ready to attend her funeral just yet."
Stephen stood up with dissatisfaction when he heard Tommy planning to get Robert to cause Zoey to lose her job; in his opinion, Zoey’s high-risk job was no excuse for Tommy to plot against her from behind the scenes. Zoey loved her job, and as a friend, one should offer support and assistance whenever needed.
However, the next second, after hearing the rest of Tommy’s words, Stephen closed his mouth. Tommy Hawk was still the undisputed leader of the CS group.
Speaking casually over the phone, Tommy said, "And I will offer her a new job on the news network. If significant moments worthy of a Pulitzer Prize always require journalists to be on the spot to witness the events for the world, why shouldn’t that journalist be my spitfire miss?"
