Chapter 373: Chapter 37: Never Trust the American Dream_2

When Stephen heard Tommyโ€™s words, his first reaction was astounded, "Dude, you talk about this stuff with women in bed, and they donโ€™t find you boring? Having to discuss work-related topics while sleeping with you..." ๐’‡๐™ง๐™š๐“ฎ๐™ฌ๐™š๐“ซ๐’๐“ธ๐“ฟ๐“ฎ๐’.๐“ฌ๐™ค๐“ถ

"Lastly, the information shows that in her first year in New York, she played the leading role in a play at an off-Broadway theater." Ignoring Stephenโ€™s teasing, Tommy stated the third reason:

"I guess youโ€™ve never slept with a Broadway actress, or none of your girlfriends liked to understand Broadway."

"Indeed, I havenโ€™t, I prefer the art of cinema," Stephen looked at Tommy.

Tommy flicked his cigarette ash and then glanced at his flashy ride:

"Ottelia likes to go to Broadway to enjoy musicals. There, even if a newcomer wants to perform on stage, they need to wait several years at the very least, let alone become the leading actress in a play. This girl named Sandra, she made it to the Broadway stage within a year, and as the leading actress at that โ€“ even if itโ€™s just off-Broadway, that alone is enough to be shocking. If she were a common girl, letโ€™s just say, even if she slept with every single staff member using her looks, she wouldnโ€™t have gotten the lead role in her first year. Broadwayโ€™s standards for actors are even higher than Hollywoodโ€™s.โ€™

"So, think about it, a common girl from a small town in Virginia goes to New York pursuing her dream of acting. She lives in a luxury apartment hotel in the Upper East Side, taking one-on-one acting lessons that would intimidate even regular starlets, and playing the leading role in a peripheral theaterโ€™s drama. Can all these massive expenses really be sustained just by her part-time bar-tending or waitressing? Iโ€™d sooner believe the French claim theyโ€™ll never surrender than believe her story to be true."

"Only someone like you, born with no concept of money, would fail to see how problematic this resume is. If it were any other film director or producer, they might feel the urge to hook up with her based on her attractive artistic and candid photos. However, one glance at this resume and itโ€™s clear thereโ€™s more to it. Best to learn more about her background before getting involved and hitting a snag."

"So, never trust a resume that reads like the American Dream."

"If she has such a background, why did she attend crappy schools?" After hearing Tommyโ€™s explanation, Stephen wasnโ€™t satisfied and threw out another question.

Tommy shook his head: "I donโ€™t know, perhaps itโ€™s just that those two schools were closer to her home? I guess if she had wanted to attend Stanford or other prestigious universities, it wouldโ€™ve been as easy for her as it was for you."

"Attending West Point would have been even easier than for me," Stephen said with some disdain.

Seeing that the other party didnโ€™t believe Sandra could get into prestigious schools with as much ease as he could, Tommy added a bit more:

"Her father, Little John Wilson Block, why didnโ€™t he, like his comrades stationed in Germany, knock up a German girl and then head back home to rekindle an old flame? And why did he end up breaking up with his girlfriend waiting for him back home, then marry the German woman and hold the wedding in his hometown? Figure that out, and youโ€™ll understand why it would be easy for her to get into a prestigious school. But I canโ€™t keep talking to you about it, because some things are only shared among the brothers within the Fraternityโ€™s inner circle."

After finishing, Tommy took a sip of his beer, closed his eyes, and savored the coolness of the beverage.

Stephen knew each fraternity had its own set of rules, and his own Phoenix Society was no different, so he didnโ€™t press further. Instead, he turned his attention back to the photo of Sandra Block, "So basically, this chick has some serious backing, right? But if youโ€™re not planning on hitting on her, can I give it a shot? I mean, at least let me figure out what you canโ€™t tell me."

"Your tennis girlfriend... Lisa... Lisa..." Tommyโ€™s eyes swept over Stephenโ€™s face as he spoke, reminded about Stephenโ€™s intention to approach Sandra Block.

Stephen mentioned his girlfriendโ€™s full name: "Lisa Bond."

"Right, her. I mean sheโ€™s currently in Paris competing, and she also plans to take time after the tournament to visit your parents vacationing there. And yet, here you are, ready to replace her? You snatched her from two wealthy guys."

Tommy had seen Stephenโ€™s new girlfriend a few times. The Stephen who had slept his way through Hollywood was presenting a non-industry girlfriend to his parents โ€“ the affluent American tennis player, Lisa Bond, twenty-four, with blonde hair and long legs. Aside from a slightly small bust, she basically fit every manโ€™s fantasy of a woman.

When Stephen was pursuing her, a minority stakeholder in Daimler and an owner of a chain bookstore were also courting Lisa. But those two were a bit aged, one nearly fifty, the other thirty-seven, and when chasing a woman, their spending might seem a bit out of touch with the times.

As for Stephen, he showed the two equally wealthy old guys what a vigorous young man was capable of.

This guy spent four million to buy 5,000 acres of land all at once in Lisa Bondโ€™s home state of South Carolinaโ€”how big is 5,000 acres? About twenty square kilometers.

The reason for the purchase was to present it to Lisa Bond, letting her know that if someday she wanted to retire, she could build a tennis training school or anything else on that land, ensuring a fulfilling life even after retirement.
