Chapter 746: 256, Heir_2
Everyone also understood that Donnie couldn’t just stay at home and go nowhere just because Helen was pregnant. There were still matters to take care of.
However, as Donnie was preparing to leave, Helen reminded him that William Howard Taft would be visiting Atlantic City in a few days and asked Donnie to get ready for his arrival.
Donnie nodded to acknowledge he understood, kissed Helen on the forehead, and then left the house alone. After getting into the car, Steve Cotting was the first to congratulate him: “Congratulations, my boss!”
Donnie asked in confusion, “How did you know?”
Steve Cotting replied with a smile, “John told me.”
Donnie let out a hearty laugh.
...
Steve Cotting continued, “So boss, are we heading to the company now?”
Donnie shook his head, “We’re going to the Chinese restaurant in the South District!”
“Alright!” Steve Cotting did not delve further with questions.
The geographical area and population size of Atlantic City meant that it wouldn’t have places like Chinatowns as seen in some larger cities. However, as more Chinese people could get better treatment in Atlantic City than in other cities, quite a number of them came here and settled in the Houston district of the South District.
With the gathering of Chinese, their culture naturally followed, among which food culture was the most important.

Donnie’s car had become a symbol in Atlantic City. When it arrived, it immediately drew considerable attention. However, everyone just watched from a distance, eyes filled with respect, daring not to approach.
Steve Cotting parked the car in front of the Chinese restaurant, and the owner, Guo Qingping, was already waiting at the door.
Guo Qingping had come from New York, where he had just been a kitchen assistant at a restaurant, with a pitifully low monthly salary. Even then, his employer often deducted from his wages. Guo had no recourse to address this as reporting it would not have won him the support of New York’s police but rather a beating and job termination.
He knew this because that’s exactly what happened when he tried!
After getting fired from the restaurant, Guo Qingping heard about Atlantic City from some friends, so he pulled up stakes and moved there, using his modest savings to open up a small Chinese restaurant.
“Mr. Block, how do you find the time to come here?” Guo Qingping asked respectfully upon seeing Donnie.
“I’ve been missing the food here, of course!” Donnie replied fluently in Chinese.
“What would you like to eat?” Guo immediately asked.
“The classics, of course, a bowl of beef noodles, a roujiamo, and a few side dishes—hurry up, I’m starving!” Donnie said with a smile as he walked in.
The Chinese restaurant was well-known, but inside it only had four tables. Guo Qingping had been a chef in the East before coming to the United States, so his cooking skills were solid. However, it was morning, so eating too much wasn’t advisable.
“Mr. Block!”
As Donnie came in, two men at a table quickly put down their soup spoons and stood up.
“Feng Zhang Ping, Lu Honggui!” Donnie recognized the two men.
Hearing Donnie call out their names in Chinese directly, they were very excited.
The gambling championship was over, and although Lu Honggui didn’t win the title of gambling king, he had made a name for himself. Upon gaining recognition, he decisively joined the Surf Hotel and became one of the star dealers.
As for his conflict with Meyer, once he became an employee of Surf Hotel, it was all in the past!
“Mr. Block, you still remember us!” Lu Honggui said excitedly.
“Of course, you’re both employees of Surf Hotel. Naturally, I know you. Why are you having breakfast so late…?” Before he could finish, Donnie realized, “You two must have just gotten off work, right?”
Feng Zhangping nodded, “That’s right!”
Donnie nodded, saw that Guo Qingping had delivered what he ordered, waved his hands to indicate he was going to eat, and the two men said no more.
The beef noodles were on the restaurant’s menu, but the roujiamo was not. However, Donnie had asked Guo Qingping about it on a previous visit, and Guo had assured him there was no problem.
Thus, the roujiamo became Donnie’s exclusive dish at the restaurant.
After adding a bit of aged vinegar and chili oil to the beef noodle soup, Donnie first heartily drank a bowl of the savory broth enhanced with a hint of vinegar and spiciness. Perfect!
Then he took a bite of the roujiamo, and the juices exploded with flavor in his mouth. Delicious!
After finishing the breakfast, Donnie left 10 US dollars and departed, thoroughly satisfied.
When Donnie returned to the Surf Hotel, he received another round of congratulations. However, the emphasis on such matters was different between the East and West.
In the East, the birth of a leader’s successor to a group was a very important event. In the ancient dynasties, for instance, it was critical for an emperor to have an heir to ensure the continuation of their illustrious legacy.
In the West, the importance of a successor was not as significant.
After all, in modern America, many people sell their companies or hand them over to professional managers after establishing their businesses.
