Chapter 46: Scene 16 Guard Team_2

Two points of golden light flashed and disappeared.

Brand immediately chanted the attribute panel in his mind, and ghost-like data instantly appeared row by row on his retina. He selected one item and thought to himself, "Profession and Experience—"

A piece of dark green data:

XP: 11 (Civilian Level 1: —, Level 2 Civilian Soldier, 6/10, Mercenary Level 1, 0/10)

He reversed his sword to block an attack from the skeleton soldier on one side and thought, "11 points of experience, upgrade the Mercenary level."

The data changed instantly:

XP: 0 (Civilian Level 1: —, Level 2 Civilian Soldier, 6/10, Mercenary Level 2, 11/30)

Brand stood up and used his strength to push the bone skeleton backward. He glanced at his attributes; Strength and Constitution had increased by 0.2 energy levels, and Dexterity and Perception each by 0.1 energy levels. However, the key point was the 25 points of Skill Experience, which alone was enough to render the Civilian Soldier profession obsolete.

He took a deep breath.

Alright, now he had 2.3 energy levels in Strength, 2.1 energy levels in Dexterity, and 2.2 energy levels in Constitution, with an Absolute Strength of 8.0. He had completely surpassed the initial attributes of a player and was beginning to move towards the first level of Strength.

At this moment, Brand's heart suddenly calmed down, looking at the three skeleton soldiers in front of him as if they were air.

Yes, he was back, finally—

...

Ten minutes was enough for the smoke to clear, and the sound of hoofbeats approached from the end of the street, two horses.

Two young riders emerged side by side on the long street. They stopped their horses, looked around, and were somewhat shocked by the remains of bones scattered all over the place, unable to speak for a moment.

"Zeta, did you see that?"

"Only one person, could it be the Ridenburg Guard Team?"

"There's a Corpse Witch over there, by Martha! Zeta, can you fight one against four?"

"No, I can't. This is a veteran." The slender young man on the horse silently looked around, disbelief gradually appearing on his face. "Lains, there are six skeleton soldiers here—"

All around it fell silent.

"Seven?"

"Seven."

"We must report this to the vice-captain. What do you think this is? A regular army? Or a traveling knight?" The young man named Lains turned around on his horse, staring at his companion and asking.

"I can't guess, Lains, but I agree with you."

...

When Brand arrived at the ranch, it was already engulfed in a sea of fire. The burning buildings formed a bright backdrop, and occasionally, the sound of buildings collapsing could be heard not far away. But he did not see the expected scene of the Undead Army chasing Frey and Essen.

On the contrary, he saw many newly summoned skeletons fleeing in panic in the raging flames. The bright flames were almost the innate enemies of these Lower Undead, making their weak Soul Fire tremble in the strong light, almost being purified into a pile of ashes.

This wasn't blue fire. In the game, Madara's army only used the cold Soul Fire. Brand immediately realized that this fire was not set by the Undead. Could it be Frey and Essen? He shook his head, not believing that those two would be so decisive.

He sharply turned his head in one direction, just in time to see a group of skeleton soldiers chasing in that direction. He squinted his eyes, clearly seeing a layer of flickering dark light on those bone skeletons—Dark Refinement, a Corpse Witch nearby?

Brand immediately drew his sword, and a faint light appeared on the blade of the Azure Light Piercing. As he walked in that direction, a few clumsy low-level skeletons brushed past him—soon, our protagonist gained another 7 points of experience.

But before the young man could get closer, a loud bang came from around the corner—countless bone fragments and metal armor rings flew out from that direction, accompanied by two or three skeletons being thrown high into the air and falling into the nearby sea of fire.

Brand was startled—

It was the first level of strength (3Oz~20Oz), he immediately realized. Who was behind the sea of fire? A human? The regular army of Ridenburg? But historically, they didn't appear here.

He instinctively put himself in a defensive posture, raising his head just in time to see a group of knights charging out from behind the sea of fire like a flood, instantly sweeping out of the flames. The lead rider turned towards him, raising his long sword—behind him, a row of riders simultaneously pulled on their reins—bringing the entire squad to a halt.

"Who are you—?" the rider asked coldly, his voice young. But he was stunned immediately. Backlit, Brand couldn't see his expression clearly, but he could feel that the person knew him. No, he should say he knew the original Brand.

Then he heard the whispers of the riders behind:

"I bet he's a Militia."

"I know him."

"You're right, though; he's just a Militia."

Brand frowned slightly. When his eyes gradually adjusted to the strong light, he finally clearly saw these people's outfits. Blue thick woolen coats, Dragon Scale Breastplates, bright White Iron Helmets, cavalry swords, and the silver-black shoulder patches with black pine leaf insignias—

Buqi Guard Team.

"Brand, why are you here?" The lead rider then asked in a condescending tone.

"I have the same question," Brand recalled the person's name: Breson. Like him, from Brags City, selected into the Guard Team due to outstanding performance in Militia training, then sent to the Buqi border for further training...

Of course, that was just the surface of the issue. Because no matter how excellent Breson was, he couldn't surpass the first in swordsmanship, Brand. But with a local official's father speaking, the story naturally became much smoother.

He knew the grudge between the two of them, though it couldn't be called a grudge, just mutual disdain at best.

Indeed, Breson immediately said, "Militia, as the vice-captain of the Buqi Guard Team, I require you to report immediately—why are you here?"

Laughter erupted among the riders. They all knew Breson just wanted to create trouble for his fellow townsman; the so-called report was just an excuse.

Brand raised his head—

...
