Chapter 98: Chapter 98 Do You Remember Me?

Emily did not immediately return to the hotel after leaving the hospital. She just felt a mess wrapped around her heart and desperately needed some alone time to clear her head. So, slowly pacing, she came to a peaceful park.

In the park, the trees are shady, and the breeze brings a hint of freshness. Emily walked to the park bench by the lake and sat down softly. Her gaze fell silently on the white swans that were sauntering gracefully through the lake. The feathers, white as snow, glistened softly in the sunlight.

Emily’s mind was not so tranquil as that of a swan. The mingled emotions came back upon her like a tide, and scenes from the past were rapidly replaying themselves in her mind. From the moment when her stepmother forced her to marry in the North to the moment when she returned to the South, her fate seemed to be controlled by a great unseen hand.

Time is so short, and yet it seems a long century has passed. Emily could not understand why so many misfortunes had befallen her, one after another. She felt sad and weary, as if she were a ship lost in a storm, alone and helpless.

Emily drew a long breath, trying to banish the painful memories from her mind. Her eyes were fixed on the placid surface of the lake, and she tried to find peace within the calm. At this moment the white swan of the lake suddenly spread his wings, flapped vigorously, and flew upward. The moment his legs left the surface of the lake there was a splash of crystal water. The splash gleamed in the sunlight like a brilliant gem. 𝑓𝘳𝑒𝑒𝓌𝘦𝘣𝘯ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝑚

The beauty of the scene, however, did not improve Emily’s mood. For at that moment a figure on the other side of the lake caught her attention. The figure was a little indistinct against the green of the trees, but when the splash was complete it suddenly disappeared again.

Could it be the same man again? Emily’s heart tightened, and she rose from the bench. She blinked her eyes and looked ahead, but there was no sign of any one on the other side of the lake, except the willows waving in the wind. Was it possible that she was hallucinating?

Emily’s mind reverted to the strange man’s face. He looked so cold, as if he did not care for anything in the world. But his gray eyes, which seemed to have been seen somewhere, gave her an indescribable bewilderment.

Who the hell is he? Emily looked at those around her in bewilderment. Some were leisurely walking their dogs, and the puppies were running merrily, pausing now and then to sniff at the flowers by the roadside; Some were playing ball with their children, and the air resounded with laughter; Some sat on the lawn, reading in silence, lost in a sea of knowledge. Everything around looked so harmonious.

She had no sense of danger, and it might be that the man was really gone, or that he had not been here at all. Emily sighed and decided to leave the park. Slowly she rose and walked along the lake path toward the outer edge of the park. The sun shone upon her, but it could not warm her cold heart.

As Emily stepped out into the street, her phone rang suddenly, so she pulled it out and pressed the answer button.

"Where are you? lover. "Klaus’s voice came from the other end of the line.

"I..." Emily was unfamiliar with the streets of the capital, and she looked around and couldn’t find a sign, then she turned her head to see the mall sign behind her, so she said to Klaus, "I’m at the mall"

"You..." Klaus paused for two seconds, then changed his inquiring tone and said, "Do you need me to pick you up?"

Oh, and the ever domineering Klaus has begun to learn to ask her advice. Very well; he seemed to take her words to heart.

"Yes." Emily replied softly.

"I’ll be there soon."

After Emily had hung up the telephone, she vaguely sensed an unaccountable coldness behind her, and the uneasy feeling returned.

She jerked back, only to see nothing behind her. But she trusted her instincts. Could it be that a strange man was coming?

Emily glanced at the crowded entrance to the mall, and without a moment’s hesitation she followed the crowd and entered. The department store was doing a promotion at the time, and there were a lot of customers shopping in the mall. But Emily had no desire to shop at the moment, and she had only gone into the mall to get rid of the strange man,

She casually walked into a clothing store as if she were a customer, lingered deliberately inside until the uneasiness subsided, and then walked out confident.

Emily guessed that Klaus should be ready, so she planned to wait for him outside the department store. Just as she was crossing the passage to turn down the stairs, a pair of strong hands suddenly pressed upon her shoulders from behind, and the man pushed her at great speed behind a small door.

In the dark utility room, the air seemed frozen. Emily’s heart was in her mouth, and before she could recover from this sudden turn of events she was in captivity.

A figure approached like a ghost, its long black hair swaying softly, like the sigh of night. The man’s gray eyes, like a bottomless pool of cold, locked upon her. He pressed the strength of his legs against her lower body, immobilizing her, her back pressed against the cold wall.

The big, strong hand of the man gripped her wrist and held it high in the air. The force that shook Emily. She had never thought that anyone could have such control.

"Who are you?" Emily struggled, her voice tinged with horror and stubbornness. Yet her resistance seemed so feeble before this man.

"Shh."The man’s voice was soft, like a breeze blowing in his ears. "As long as you promise me not to scream, I promise I won’t hurt you, okay?"

Emily nodded feebly, but her eyes, like those of a watchful deer, followed the man’s every movement, and secretly contemplated the chance of escape.

The man merely stared at her in silence, his gaze complex and deep. Then his face came slowly nearer, and his long black hair brushed Emily’s cheeks. He had an aura of danger about him that filled the little space in an instant.

With his nose he inhaled the scent of Emily’s hair, and when the tip of his nose touched her ear, her body shook violently, instinctively resisting the strange man.

"You’ve been marked?" The man frowned, and there was a hint of disgust and displeasure in his eyes. His body drew back a little, as if stung by something.

"What the hell do you want to do?" Emily’s eyes were full of confusion and anger. She did not know the man at all, so why should he follow her like a shadow?

The man made no reply; his movements were lightning quick. Quickly released one of Emily’s wrists, but then gripped both with one hand. Emily did not even have time to withdraw her hand before she was again in his grasp.

The man pulled a silver bracelet from his pocket and held it out to Emily. The bracelet glittered in the faint light with a faint silver sheen. He asked softly, "Do you remember this?"

Emily’s gaze fell on the dangling silver bracelet, and the door to memory was instantly opened. That night so many years ago unfolded like a picture. At that time she was an innocent girl. On a quiet evening, she meets a wounded and unconscious boy. Even if she knew he was a foreigner, she could not die without help. She fetched herbs and water for him, and spent the night with him in the cabin.

However, when the next day’s sunlight poured into the cabin, the boy was nowhere to be seen. She searched everywhere, but could find no sign of the boy. She had thought that she had accidentally lost the bracelet, but she had not expected to find it in his possession.

"It’s you." Emily stared into the man’s gray eyes, "You’re the boy who was hurt that night."

"So you remember me." A faint smile played about the corners of the man’s mouth, a smile that seemed to hide a thousand stories, all of them unpredictable.

The boy of years ago and the man before him were almost like two people. The boy she had met was covered with wounds and on the verge of death, but now the man was like a ghost from a dark hell come to earth, and his body had an aura of coldness that was not common to men.

Emily did not like to be so controlled by him, and she did not understand the object of this man who had suddenly appeared to trap her here.

At that moment the silence of the room was broken by the sharp ring of a mobile, which must have been Klaus’s call. But at that moment Emily simply did not have the spare hand to take the call. The man in front of him glanced down at Emily’s phone in her pocket, and he did not let go of her.

The phone ring tone, however, paused for a second and then continued to ring, the rapid ring tone echoing through the cramped room so clearly.

There was a look of hesitation in the man’s eyes, and then he looked Emily in the eye, and he said to her word by word in a low, clear voice, "Emily, remember this face, remember me. Someday you will be mine. "

His tone sounded like a warning, like some sort of agreement. Immediately after he had finished speaking, he released Emily’s hand and started off at breakneck speed.

The door opened, and a white beam of light shone in, so blinding. Emily was the only one left in the cramped room, but the smell of death still lingered.

"Emily."A voice rang out outside the door.
