Alpha's replacement bride is destined mate-Chapter 81 An Audio Recording
There was a brief silence in the room, and Emily, having composed herself, slowly rose from the sofa and moved towards the door.
Klaus followed behind her, puzzled, asking, "Are you going out?"
"Judy has no family, and now that she’s dead, I need to go to the hospital to handle her funeral arrangements."
"Let Marx take care of this," Klaus insisted firmly, standing in front of Emily. "You stay here."
"Klaus, I’m also partially responsible for Judy’s death," Emily said, her eyes full of helplessness and pain. "If I hadn’t been so anxious to learn about my mother from her, she probably wouldn’t have run into the road and been hit by a car."
Emily sighed heavily and said to Klaus, almost in a pleading tone, "This time, please don’t stop me, okay?"
Klaus hesitated for a few seconds, then compromised. "Okay, but you have to let me accompany you to the hospital."
Emily nodded in agreement.
"Max, you drive," Klaus turned to Marx and said. "The Southern royal family has a spare car for us. We parked it in the hotel’s parking garage. Use that car."
"Yes, Alpha," Marx said, and left the room.
Half an hour later, they arrived at the hospital. Emily found Judy’s attending physician, who explained the cause of Judy’s death to Emily. Then he asked Emily to go to the ward to see Judy’s body, and finally, the doctor instructed the nurses to move Judy’s body to the morgue.
The doctor also gave Emily a card with the details of a funeral home. He told Emily that if she wasn’t comfortable dealing with Judy’s death, she could call the funeral home and they would take care of it, as long as she provided enough money.
After leaving the hospital, an idea struck Emily, and she felt a sudden urge to go and see Judy’s place, to know what kind of life the woman had led all these years.
Perhaps she could find contact information for Judy’s family, where she lived. Emily thought to herself: at least let her family know about her death. 𝒻𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝘯𝘰𝑣ℯ𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝘮
Emily asked Marx to drive to the ice cream parlor where she first met Judy. This time, she happened to see the owner who had fired Judy before. She then learned Judy’s address from the owner, thanks, of course, to the threat Marx and Klaus had made to the ice cream parlor owner.
The owner of the ice cream parlor told Emily that Judy usually lived in a red second-hand RV and that she often parked it in a vacant lot not far from the parlor. So Emily and Klaus went to the clearing the ice cream parlor owner had mentioned and finally found the battered red RV amidst the stinking garbage.
Emily opened the door of the RV, and the smell of food was so pungent that Klaus and Marx immediately opened all the windows, but the smell still lingered in the cramped space.
Emily took a closer look at everything in the RV. The place was not unlike a homeless person’s dwelling, littered with garbage and scraps of food. A battered bra and panties hung carelessly from a chair. Just as Emily was about to leave, a confession book by the bedside caught her eye.
So Emily picked up the confession book from the bedside table and, flipping through it, saw that the pages were yellowed, as if the book had been read and reread many times.
One question lingered in Emily’s mind: To whom was Judy confessing?
"What did you find?" Klaus came to Emily, wrinkling his nose from the moment he stepped into the RV.
"Just a book," Emily replied, replacing the confession book in its place. Why hadn’t she found a journal?
Often in television dramas, the diaries of victims often reveal secrets that no one else knows. But apparently, Judy was not in the habit of keeping a journal, as not a single pen was found in her RV.
"It seems this woman named Judy prefers drugs to books." Marx flipped through a worn-out newspaper, with several used syringes stacked underneath.
"What’s this?" Klaus’s eyes went to the pillow on the bed, where something seemed to protrude from the hard surface beneath.
Emily picked up the yellow, sweat-stained pillow and found beneath it a small tape recorder.
"There’s a cassette tape in it." Curious, Emily picked up the recorder and pressed play.
The next second, there was a vibrant burst of music from the recorder, and two minutes later, the music faded into a rustling sound. Then, Emily heard Judy’s voice on the tape recorder.
Judy’s voice was low, and only the sound of staccato crying could be heard. After a while, Judy spoke, "Great Moon Mother, please forgive me."
Judy took a deep breath and paused for a few more moments before continuing, "I was tormented by pain every night and had trouble sleeping. Every time I closed my eyes, I saw Luna Diane’s dead face. I’m sorry. I personally brought that bowl of poisoned soup to Luna Diane. She drank it, and it was all my fault."
Emily’s heart sank, and her grip on the recorder tightened. Then she heard Judy say, "If it weren’t for Luna Diane drinking that bowl of poisoned soup, she wouldn’t have been born prematurely, and she wouldn’t have been poisoned to death. Great Grandmother Luna, it’s all because of that cursed Alpha Robert."
Emily’s father was indeed the murderer of her mother! Emily gritted her teeth, and her eyes filled with hatred for her father. However, what Judy said next shocked Emily.
"If it weren’t for Alpha Robert and Katherine’s affair, how could Katherine have wanted to murder her sister? I know that cursed woman wanted to replace her sister as Luna. It was Katherine who asked me to bring the poisoned soup to Luna Diane. She poisoned the soup." Judy’s voice was filled with anger and hatred.
"I overheard Katherine’s conversation with the doctor at the hospital. She promised to pay him a large honorarium if he tampered with Luna Diane’s death report. I tried to tell Alpha Robert the secret, but the cursed Alpha Robert had locked himself in his room, and the guards said he was in pain from the loss of Luna and wouldn’t see anyone. So I knocked desperately outside Alpha Robert’s room, shouting that Katherine had killed Luna Diane. My voice, however, didn’t make Alpha Robert open the door, but it did attract Nancy. That damned old maid, she’s Katherine’s lackey. Nancy had the guards throw me out of the house, and she and Katherine sent assassins after me."
Judy paused for a long time, and then Emily could hear her start crying again. "Luna Diane, please forgive me for my cowardice. I had to run away."
"Sometimes I thought about ending my life, but I didn’t have the courage. I’m sorry, Luna Diane, sorry."
There was a long silence on the other end of the recorder, which eventually gave way to the sound of Judy’s snoring.
"It’s Katherine. She’s the one who killed my mother." Emily clutched the recorder to her chest, and it was at that moment that she finally realized the killer was Katherine.
"Marx, keep looking for any other clues," Klaus said, wrapping his arm around Emily’s waist. Her pale face concerned him.
"Why don’t we get out of here first? I think you need some fresh air."
Emily nodded, still clutching the tape recorder that contained the truth about her mother’s death, as Klaus helped her out of the RV.
Marx searched every inch of the RV, but apart from the tape recorder, there was no evidence linking it to Emily’s mother’s death. They had to leave.
On the way back to the hotel, Emily sat silently in the car. Her mind was fixated on one thought: bringing her mother’s murderer to justice.
Soon, they arrived at the hotel. As soon as Emily stepped out of the car, a swarm of reporters suddenly materialized, surrounding her with their cameras and peppering her with questions: "Luna Emily, what do you think of the accusations your stepmother has made against you?"
"Luna Emily, why did you murder your stepmother?"
"Luna Emily, did you really take your sister’s place to marry in the North?"
"Luna Emily, please respond to us."
Seeing this, Klaus immediately pushed the reporters away from Emily and demanded, "Get out of the way."
"It’s okay, Klaus," Emily gestured for him to stop, staring blankly at the reporters eager for her response.
"Luna Katherine’s accusations against me are pure nonsense, and I didn’t murder her. In fact, I intend to sue Luna Katherine in court for the murder of my mother!" Emily said, trying to maintain a calm tone. She paused for a few seconds before addressing the cameras, "Yes, she is the murderer of my mother. I request that the court sentences her to death!"
The reporters present exchanged shocked expressions upon hearing the news. "Are you saying that your stepmother murdered your mother?" one of them asked.
"Yes, she is the murderer who killed my mother." Emily showed a determined look and said, "I demand that she be sentenced to death!"
