Chapter 79: Chapter 79 Accused by Stepmother

Katherine was rushed to the hospital, the visit to the orphanage was abruptly suspended, and the Southern royal representatives prudently decided to return Emily and Klaus to the hotel first, for their safety.

Upon returning to the hotel, Emily sat down on the sofa, deeply concerned. She knew that Katherine’s sudden appearance at the orphanage couldn’t have been mere coincidence. She had deliberately lured Emily into chasing her and then jumped from the building in front of everyone, a move that Emily suspected had been carefully planned by Katherine.

But Katherine’s true intentions remained a mystery, leaving Emily to wonder, what exactly was she trying to achieve?

"Are you still dwelling on what happened at the orphanage?" Klaus poured a glass of whiskey over ice and handed it to Emily, who had already recounted the events of their journey back, but even the perceptive Klaus couldn’t fathom why Katherine had leaped from the building.

"What puzzles me is, why did Katherine jump?" Emily mused, the image of Katherine’s leap flashing through her mind. The distance between the floors wasn’t too great for a werewolf, and if she had prepared for the leap, her werewolf body should have withstood the impact.

Yet, there was visible blood on Katherine’s head when Emily saw her land. Clearly, she had intentionally aimed for a fall that would appear severe.

Before jumping, Katherine had deliberately cried for help, solely to draw attention.

Katherine wanted people to believe that Emily was chasing her. Did she think that was sufficient to threaten Emily?

No, she must have had a contingency plan.

"Stop thinking about it, whatever happens, I’ll protect you," Klaus pulled Emily into his embrace and softly reassured her. "Or else, I’ll request the royal representatives from the south to cancel the rest of the event. So that you can get some rest."

Emily understood that Klaus was acting in her best interest, but she couldn’t let her personal concerns jeopardize the event. After all, she and Klaus were representing the northern royal family on this visit to the south, and she had to consider the reputation of the northern royal family and the interests of both countries.

"It’s not necessary," Emily shook her head slightly. "I can hold on."

"Don’t force yourself," Klaus insisted, reaching for his cellphone. But as he pulled it out, it rang.

It was a call from the royal representative of the South, so Klaus answered promptly, only to hear a man’s voice on the other end. "This is Alan. Alpha Klaus, is Luna Emily by your side?" Allen’s voice was swift and intense, laced with urgency and concern.

Klaus glanced at Emily beside him, his eyes filled with doubt and worry. "Yes, she’s right here," he replied.

"Do you need to speak with her?" Klaus asked.

"I think you should turn on the TV and take a look," Allen said, his tone solemn and warning, as if important news was imminent. It troubled Klaus deeply.

"I’ll call you back in half an hour," Alan concluded, and the line went silent.

Klaus’s brow furrowed as he sensed the gravity of the situation. He turned on the television and saw Katherine’s face on the screen. She sat on a hospital bed, clad in a gown, her head wrapped in white gauze, an IV needle in one hand, and a white infusion tube attached to a bottle of medication hanging beside the bed.

Katherine’s feigned weakness made it seem like she was seriously injured, but it was what she said next, facing the camera, that was truly shocking.

A television reporter stood over Katherine’s hospital bed, microphone in hand, asking questions.

"Luna Katherine, why did you fall from the orphanage today? Can you tell us exactly what happened?"

Katherine lowered her head, pretending to be troubled, and then slowly lifted it, her lips trembling slightly. "Today, when I went to the orphanage to deliver relief supplies, I happened to meet Emily. She threatened me, saying that if I revealed her secret, she would punish me. But as an honest Luna, I couldn’t keep her sordid secret hidden, and I refused her. So, she became very angry. She tried to harm me, and I ran away, but she chased after me, and I accidentally fell down the stairs in my flight. That’s how it happened."

"Are you referring to Emily, the princess of the North, Luna Emily?" the reporter confirmed.

"Yes, that’s her," Katherine replied.

"So, what exactly is your relationship with her?"

"Emily is the daughter of my husband and his ex-wife, and essentially, I am her stepmother."

"A daughter attempting to murder her stepmother," the journalist’s words clearly aimed to sway public opinion. 𝕗𝚛𝚎𝚎𝐰𝗲𝗯𝗻𝚘𝚟𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝕞

"What exactly is the secret you mentioned? This sordid secret? Can you share it with us?" the reporter asked.

Katherine paused deliberately for a few seconds before speaking. "The secret is...she wasn’t supposed to be the princess of the North. In fact, it was originally my daughter Gina who was meant to marry into the North, but Emily secretly replaced Gina’s name with hers."

"So, she’s not really a princess," the reporter feigned surprise, asking, "How could she do such a thing?"

"A country girl who loves vanity, she’ll stop at nothing," Katherine said resentfully. "Perhaps it stems from the fact that she’s been without a mother since childhood, and due to a lack of proper education, she possesses a low moral character. Such a woman could never be a worthy princess."

As soon as Emily heard Katherine’s words, she stood up in anger, her eyes blazing furiously at Katherine on the TV. "How dare she disgrace my mother?"

"Calm down, love," Klaus hurriedly embraced Emily and whispered reassuringly, "Don’t give that woman’s nonsense any heed."

"So, you intend to go public and let everyone know that the true princess is your daughter, not Emily?" The reporters persisted with their questions.

"Yes, but there’s one more thing I must do aside from revealing the truth about this matter," Katherine’s eyes flashed at the camera. "I’m heading to the Capitol Court to press charges against Emily for murder!"

Emily’s fists clenched tightly in fury at Katherine’s words. This, it transpired, was Katherine’s true intention. She sought to destroy Emily.
