Alpha's replacement bride is destined mate-Chapter 70 Meeting of the Enemy
King James’s actions overwhelmed Emily, and at that moment, an invisible anger gathered between Klaus’s brows. His expressionless countenance was menacing, and his calmness betrayed such anger that one shrank from looking directly into it.
Prince Adam soon realized that his father’s behavior was inappropriate and whispered to him, "What are you doing, Father?"
Prince Adam’s words seemed to rouse King James from some sort of reverie, and he blinked, then unconsciously released Emily’s wrist.
"I’m sorry," King James’s tone was apologetic as he looked at Emily’s face again. "You look a lot like an old friend of mine."
Emily smiled, "It’s okay, sometimes I get people’s names mixed up too."
What had he called her just now? Diane? If Emily’s memory served her right, her deceased mother’s name was Diane. Could they be the same person?
Out of the corner of her eye, she suddenly caught sight of three figures approaching them. Her heart sank for an instant, and when her gaze focused again, she could see their faces clearly. It was her father, Alpha Robert, her stepmother, Katherine, and Gina.
They were clearly dressed for the party, especially Gina, in a low-cut sequined pink bodycon dress that hugged her figure and flaunted it. Her red hair was piled high, her neck adorned with a sparkling diamond necklace, and her attitude was still one of pride.
Emily’s heart stirred. It had never occurred to her that on such an occasion she would encounter her father and stepmother.
As she saw Alpha Robert and Katherine again, the bitterness of the past resurfaced, and Emily’s expression froze for a moment, her eyes flashing a cold gleam. 𝗳𝚛𝚎𝚎𝘄𝕖𝕓𝕟𝕠𝚟𝚎𝕝.𝗰𝕠𝐦
Klaus took her hand, and the warmth of his palm softened the chill that was rising within her.
The three of them approached King James. Alpha Robert released Katherine’s hand and stepped forward, respectfully greeting the King, "Good evening, Your Majesty."
"You’re here, Robert." King James nodded.
"Allow me to introduce my family. This is my wife, Katherine, and my daughter, Gina." Alpha Robert said.
"Good evening, Your Majesty," Katherine and Gina said in unison, saluting the king.
King James’s gaze shifted between Gina and Emily, and there was a deep meaning in his eyes.
"Robert, these two are your daughters, but they’re like two very different flowers. It’s quite amusing," said King James, a chuckle in his voice, as if he were admiring the contrast before him.
"That’s because we weren’t born to the same mother," Gina chimed in, a note of pride in her voice. However, her words immediately incurred the displeasure of Alpha Robert, who glared at her, causing her to immediately fall silent.
"Emily is the daughter of my ex-wife," Alpha Robert replied truthfully.
"So, she’s Diane’s daughter?" King James’s tone betrayed a hint of surprise.
"Yes." When his ex-wife’s name was mentioned, Alpha Robert remained as impassive as if it meant nothing to him.
It was not the first time Emily had experienced her father’s coldness. She had once thought that her father loved her mother so much that he couldn’t blame her for her death, but now it seemed that this was not the case.
Standing beside the king, his black frock coat wrapped around his ample frame, with his hair thinning visibly, Robert-Alfred looked at Emily with the same coldness in his eyes as before.
"Father, the banquet has begun. Why don’t we let our guests enjoy the food first?" The brief silence was broken by Prince Adam’s voice, his words carrying a gentle reminder.
King James nodded, his demeanor relaxing slightly as he turned around and said to Klaus and Emily with a smile, "Please enjoy tonight’s banquet."
Klaus and Emily were then seated in their respective places, carefully positioned in a conspicuous spot where they could be seen by all the guests. As soon as they were seated, a servant promptly brought the delicious food and wine to the table, maintaining a high level of order. The aroma of the food filled the air, whetting the appetites of all those present.
Emily ate only sparingly, her appetite seemingly overshadowed by her emotions. Whenever she looked up, she happened to see Katherine and Gina sitting not far away. Their presence, like two looming shadows, cast a dark pallor over her heart. An ominous foreboding filled Emily’s mind, a mixture of anxiety and unease, as if something unknown were imminent.
In the midst of the feast, a valet approached Klaus, whispered something in his ear, and soon after the valet left, Klaus said to Emily, "I’m going to step away for a moment."
Emily nodded, "Go ahead and take care of what you need to."
Klaus stood up to leave, and when Emily looked up, she noticed that Gina, who had been seated earlier, was nowhere to be seen.
.......
Klaus left the ballroom with a note that the valet had just presented to him. The valet informed him that His Majesty would receive him alone, and he proceeded to the room designated by the number on the note.
Klaus attempted to push open the door to his room, but discovered it was locked, so he pushed inward, and an intense fragrance assaulted his nostrils. However, he quickly realized it wasn’t the scent he expected, and his keen sense of smell detected something else within it.
Intrigued, Klaus’s alarm immediately spiked.
Suddenly, Klaus heard the door lock engage, and turning his head, he saw a woman in a pink dress standing behind him.
The woman, he recalled, was Emily’s half-sister, her name Gina.
"Did you have that valet lure me here?" Klaus instantly realized the king hadn’t summoned him; it was the woman’s doing.
"Your Highness," Gina said, lifting her gaze with a calculated tenderness and seduction in her voice. She slowly approached Klaus, akin to an actress on stage inching closer to the hero, seeking the audience’s rapt attention. "There are some truths I believe you ought to know."
"What’s going on?" Klaus stood frozen, his eyes glued to Gina’s every move.
"In reality, I’m your intended bride," Gina feigned distress, her voice wavering as if recounting a heartbreaking tale. "It was Emily who usurped my place, she deceived you."
"And?" Klaus watched silently as the woman continued her antics.
"The moment I laid eyes on you, I was captivated," Gina said, undressing piece by piece until she stood before Klaus, completely naked, her tone filled with longing. "I want to give myself to you."
"You aspire to be my princess?" Klaus’s eyes chilled.
"I was originally meant to be your princess, and Emily stole my place," Gina lied effortlessly, wrapping her arms around Klaus’s neck and pressing her body against him of her own volition.
"You don’t desire a princess devoid of wolves, do you?"
As Klaus heard Gina’s words, a fierce anger surged through him, as if a violent storm had suddenly swept through the room. His face darkened like iron, and his eyes sparked with rage. Without hesitation, he reached out and seized Gina by the throat, shoving her violently against the wall. Gina’s body slammed into the wall with a muffled thud, and a trace of terror flickered in her eyes.
"How do you know she doesn’t possess a wolf?" Klaus growled at Gina, his voice thundering and filled with menace.
"You’ve had a hand in poisoning her, haven’t you?" His words pierced Gina’s heart like a sharp arrow.
Gina struggled, her face flushed from lack of oxygen, her hands weakly grasping at Klaus’s arms as she tried to break free from his grip. Her eyes were filled with fear and despair; she had never imagined Klaus could be so enraged.
Klaus felt a slight bead of sweat on his forehead, realizing the incense must have taken effect. His expression softened, but a fire still burned in his dark green eyes, and his strength simmered within him. In the next instant, he threw Gina onto the bed.
