Chapter 32: Chapter 32 Another Woman’s Name

Dreamland

Klaus was gasping for breath, his body covered in blood. Countless bodies were piled at his feet, and the blood ran like a river over the ground, and the air was filled with its strong smell.

The blood-red moon hung high in the night sky, and the red moonlight and the crimson earth mirrored each other, and a terrible aura of death hung over heaven and earth.

Klaus had led the wolves from the northern border to the west, and due to their unfamiliarity with the geography of the west, Klaus’s wolves slowly struggled from the initial strong attack. The wolves in the west quickly turned the tide of the battle under favorable conditions, and their defense was as difficult to overcome as a copper wall.

The war must be won. It was an order from the king to Klaus. The king had redeployed Klaus with a strong fighting party to support him, and he gave Klaus no opportunity to back down. So Klaus had no choice but to continue leading the wolves.

Perhaps the great moon-god had taken a special fancy to the warriors of the north, for the day before Klaus had decided to attack again, news had come from the front that the king of the wolves in the west had died suddenly. The news completely shook the resolve of the werewolves of the West to continue the fight. Now that the king of the wolves was dead, who else would they continue to fight for?

For a time, the West was in turmoil.

The western pack no longer offered desperate resistance in the face of the northern pack’s strong attack, so the army of wolves led by Klaus quickly captured the two western packs. It was not until he was ready to attack the third pack that he encountered the greatest enemy of his life.

The ruler of the Galaxy Pack is said to be the youngest son of the old Wolf King, and instead of returning to the royal capital to take part in the battle for the throne, he has chosen to stay behind and defend his pack. This is not only because the Galaxy pack is under his jurisdiction, but also because the position of the Galaxy pack is very critical. In the event of an attack by an enemy’s army, it would amount to opening the door of his own house, and the entire royal city would be destroyed.

The leaders of both the West and the North were well aware of the importance of the Galaxy pack, and a fierce struggle ensued, which lasted three days and nights.

Klaus struggled to lift his leg over a corpse, his vision enveloped in a scarlet mist, the steaming blood of war. Through the blood-colored mist, Klaus saw a figure appear before him.

The man, like himself, was covered with blood. Blood-stained hair clung to his cheeks, and it was impossible to make out his features, save for the grey, almost transparent eyes, which had a murderous intent.

His instinct told Klaus that the man across from him was the Alpha of the Galaxy pack, and he knew that the time had come to decide the winner.

A low growl pierced the silence, and Klaus struck first. His body was like a black bolt of lightning, swooping down upon the enemy on the opposite side. His claws glowed with cold light, and every fang was full of deadly menace.

The other, however, did not flinch and met Klaus with the same astonishing speed. The two wolves collided in the air with a dull thud, their paws tearing at each other, their fangs gnashing at each other, each blow deadly.

They both wished to put each other to death with their last strength.

Klaus’s eyes flashed grimly, and his claws struck his opponent’s flank with a precision that left a deep wound.

The enemy, however, did not flinch but fought back more fiercely, his fangs sinking hard into Klaus’s shoulder. Both of them were getting worse and worse, but neither of them had any intention of giving up.

The combat between the two became more intense, and each blow was accompanied by the sound of bone breaking.

In this life-and-death struggle, Klaus gradually gained the upper hand. His attacks were even more aggressive, causing pain with each rip, and at last, Klaus found his chance when he ripped his opponent’s wrist straight off.

Just as Klaus was about to plunge his paw into the other’s heart, an eager woman’s voice distracted him.

"Klaus, Klaus!"

Klaus turned his head and saw a woman running toward him. He was startled and puzzled as her figure became more distinct.

Why is his mate here?

She ran and was about to reach him when an arrow struck her in the head from behind.

The arrow was silver, and it passed through the back of her head, then protruded from her forehead. Blood gushed down her cheeks and moistened her lips and chin. Her eyes lost their brilliance in an instant, and her body fell stiffly to the ground.

Klaus’s heart was broken at that moment. It was as if his world had collapsed, and all fighting and honor and existence had become meaningless for the moment. He looked at his mate, who had fallen to the ground, and felt an indescribable pang of pain and despair.

Suddenly, a white, burning light stung his eyes and forced him to his knees with a roar

"Maya!"

Klaus awoke from a nightmare, his chest heaving as if it had been pressed against a huge stone, making it difficult to breathe. The bitter memory of the dream haunted him like a specter, constantly reminding him of the intolerable past. He lay on his bed staring at the ceiling, his mind filled with endless emptiness and confusion.

Beside her, Emily slept peacefully, her breathing steady and gentle, in contrast to the tumult of Klaus’s heart. Klaus rose slightly, not wishing to disturb her, and quietly left the bedroom.

He went into the drawing room and sat down on the sofa in the corner, drinking his whisky with ice as hard as he could. The excitement of the liquor gradually numbed his nerves, and it was not until the liquor was coursing through his blood that he slowly detached himself from the painful memory of what he had just experienced.

Meanwhile, Emily, lying on the bed, had opened her eyes. Klaus’s dreamy, anxious breathing had broken her slumber, and she had heard the name he had called in his dream—Maya.

Emily’s eyes looked out the window at the shadows of the waving trees, and she was lost in thought.
