Chapter 31: Chapter 31 King and Minister, Father and Son

Only King Famal and Klaus remained in the room, with a beam of light piercing through the window between them. Famar gazed at Klaus, who stood behind the sunlight, his face still unsmiling, his sunglasses concealing his eyes, and the father-son relationship hanging between them.

Due to Klaus’s injured eye, Famar had specifically granted him permission not to remove his sunglasses during each visit, which could be seen as his prerogative and a sign of the king’s mercy towards him.

"Sit," Famar said, his voice calm and strong. He did not relax his majesty, even though Klaus was alone in the room. Sitting on a large, high-end leather sofa, his body erect and his eyes like torches, he conveyed that he was the ruler of the kingdom.

Once the king had seated himself, Klaus took his place on the sofa. He knew very well that there was no father-son relationship in this room, only a relationship between the sovereign and the minister. His words and actions must adhere to the etiquette and rules of a courtier.

"I heard you went to the sea with that southern girl," Faramir said casually, with a subtle hint of curiosity in his voice, but also with a scrutinizing and thoughtful tone. His words seemed to carry a deeper meaning that was impossible to fathom.

"Yes," Klaus replied, his voice calm and firm, devoid of undue emotion. He had expected the king to get straight to the point, but he had not anticipated the king’s interest in his private life. This unexpected attention caught him off guard, though he didn’t let it show on his face.

"I heard you fought with someone in a bar over her?" Faramir continued, a hint of sternness and displeasure creeping into his tone. The news had evidently been lingering in his ears for a long time, and his demeanor betrayed his displeasure at such an act.

"Yes," Klaus replied succinctly. He hadn’t yet explained the details of the matter to the king, and he could guess who had conveyed the news to him. Too much explanation would only worsen his situation, so he chose silence and caution.

Famar didn’t continue to ask but instead took a cigar from the humidor on the table next to him and offered it to Klaus. "Cigar?"

"Thank you," Klaus said, taking the cigar. He retrieved his lighter and lit it, then handed the first cigar to Famal and kept the second for himself. After all these years of working with Famar, Klaus had learned to distinguish between his genuine words and his lures.

"Questions about your pack," Famar said, taking a deep breath with his cigar between his fingers. "I’ve decided to have Dyson return the pack that belonged to you after your wedding banquet."

Klaus listened in silence, knowing it would be unwise to interrupt the king before he had finished.

"I heard that there was a rebellion within the pack after Dyson took over, and he told me he had dealt with those rebels," Famar said, looking at Klaus with an irresistible majesty in his tone. "Dyson did what he had to do, and you needn’t concern yourself with those people when you take over the pack."

Klaus looked up, his gaze fixed on Famar through his sunglasses. He didn’t speak a word, just stared at him.

With a cigar in one hand and his back against the sofa, Faramir regarded Klaus with his same green eyes.

"The dead have no further meaning, and there’s no need to waste time on them," Famar stated, his words carrying the weight of a command.

Klaus knew that even if he regained his pack, he would no longer be able to avenge the wrongs done to his men. Since Dyson had taken over, he had seized the opportunity to execute several who had disobeyed him, as well as loyal subordinates who had followed Klaus for many years.

Klaus knew that Dyson was doing this to establish his authority, and he had vowed to clear their names once he got the pack back. However, it was clear that when Dyson learned he was to return the pack to Klaus, he had told the king everything beforehand, and the king had acquiesced to his actions.

"You’re right, there is no more meaning to the dead," Klaus assented in a cold tone.

"Now that we’ve made an alliance with the wolves of the South, I want you to keep this marriage alive," Famar paused, "But I don’t want you to focus too much on that woman. Don’t forget, you were taught a lesson once."

"I know what I’m supposed to do," Klaus replied. "And Emily isn’t that woman, she’s my Luna."

"Anyway, I don’t want the same thing to happen a second time," Famar said firmly. "If this woman affects you, I will not hesitate to get rid of her."

Klaus was annoyed when Famar’s painful memories were ruthlessly revealed. But he tried to be calm, for he could not afford to lose his temper in the presence of the king.

After a short pause, the atmosphere in the room suddenly became tense. The sun was still shining through the window, but the light seemed to turn into a sharp sword, hanging between them. There was an indescribable pressure in the air, as if the whole world was waiting for their next move.

"If nothing else, allow me to step down," Klaus’s voice broke the silence at last.

"Leave," Faramir said indifferently, and there was no hint of warmth in his voice, as if the father-son relation between them was a mere formality, without any real feeling.

Klaus opened the door just in time to see Dyson in the passage, and Emily cornered. Just as Dyson’s hand was about to touch Emily’s body, Klaus moved toward Emily with tremendous speed. His figure left an after-image in the passage, like that of an angry beast, guarding its domain and its fellows.

Klaus grabbed Dyson by the arm and slammed him against the wall, followed by a violent thud in the hallway. The two alpha warriors outside the door, oblivious to the unexpected situation in the passage, remained where they were, for the safety of the king was more important to them than anything else.

"Why are you being a bastard again?" Klaus vented all the pent-up anger he had on Dyson, and his voice was full of rage and disgust. He threw a punch at Dyson’s face, but he evaded it cunningly.

"Don’t get excited, Klaus." Dyson jumped to the side to distance himself from Klaus, his voice tinged with a hint of banter and provocation, "I just wanted to invite your wife to visit the garden."

"Shut up." Klaus’s voice was thunderous, full of anger and warning.

At that moment, the door leading into the chamber was opened, and the imposing figure of King Famar appeared in the doorway. He stood in the middle of the doorway, glaring at Klaus and Dyson in the passage, his gaze like an arrow.

"Why do you have to fight every time you meet?" Famar’s voice rang throughout the passage, and his words were full of anger and resentment.

The two alpha warriors guarding the door turned to look at Klaus and Dyson at the same time, as if they had received an order, and their bodies were so tense that they would have rushed at one of them with all their might if the king had given the word.

"In fact, it was Klaus who hit me first every time." Dyson pretended to be innocent, and there was a hint of grievance and provocation in his voice, "I don’t even know what I’ve done wrong."

"You know what you’ve done." Klaus glared at Dyson, his eyes filled with anger and contempt, "You bastard."

"Shut up, you guys." Famar roared, his voice thundering, "Get out of my sight, now."

Dyson reluctantly departed, his figure fading in the passage, leaving confusion and uneasiness behind.

Klaus departed with Emily, while the gaze of the King of Fomalhaut remained upon them until they were quite out of sight.
