Elijah returns to the palace with Emily, and he orders the housekeeper to get a doctor. Presently a doctor with a chestful of medicine arrived in a hurry. Fortunately, the doctor who came this time was not the creepy one from the previous visit, otherwise Emily might have refused to be examined. Otherwise, Emily might have refused to be examined, because she didn’t like the last "doctor" who smelled like rot.

Emily moved her body closer to Elijah and he gazed at her, then slowly said, " Once upon a time there was a boy who was a prince. As soon as he was born, he was prophesied by the seer to be a lone wolf. This meant that he was destined to spend the rest of his life without a mate. The boy’s father had many children, and he grew up like the rest of his siblings, being trained by his father to be an assassin. At the age of sixteen he was ordered on an assassination mission to the southern frontier. The boy’s inexperience caused him to suffer serious injuries. During the boy’s escape from his wounds, he falls unconscious, and just as he thinks he is going to die, a girl saves him. The girl found him herbs to heal his wounds, and took good care of him. When the boy wakes up, he falls in love with the girl the moment he sees her. He and the girl made a pact to choose a mate, and the boy promised the girl that he would come and marry her when she came of age. So the next day the boy went away. Then unfortunate things happened."

" What happened later?" Emily asked softly.

" Then the girl was forced to marry a bad man from the north, and when the boy learned of this, he vowed to get the girl back. So he sought out the man who had forced the girl to marry him, and he fought the man in a duel. Eventually, the boy kills the bad guy, but the boy also loses his hand. "Elijah’s eyes flashed with sadness, but he soon regained his composure as he continued, "The girl was abused by the bad man for a long time and she became very sick, so the boy took the girl back to his palace to recuperate. By this time the boy had become king. When the girl woke up with a fever, she lost her memory. She did not even remember the boy; she had forgotten the promise they had made. But the boy still loved the girl, and he wanted to keep his promise to marry the girl, and he wanted to take care of the girl for the rest of her life."

Hearing this, Emily took a deep breath as she was trying to calm the waves inside her." Are you the boy in the story? " Emily asked with a shaky voice.

Elijah nods, " And you are the girl."

Emily looks at Elijah in disbelief, she whispers, " Did you really lose your hand?"

Elijah said nothing, but silently rolled up the sleeve of his left hand, which he held out bare to Emily.

" Touch it." Elijah says.

Emily gently stroked his left hand, which did not seem to have quite the same muscular texture as a normal human hand. So cold.

" Harder."

So Emily squeezed his left hand harder, and she felt the bone within the hidden muscle. The bone was as hard as steel.

"Why is your hand cold and hard? " Emily asked.

"Because it’s not real. " Elijah said in a low voice, an imperceptible flash of pain in his eyes." It’s a fake hand."

"It’s a fake hand? " Emily gave a shocked look, "So you really did lose a hand."

"Why would I lie to you? " Elijah said," This fake hand was made for me by a wizard, and even though it doesn’t look any different than the real thing with the magical enhancements, it really is a fake hand."

" Oh God." Emily’s heart was aching, " I can’t believe you lost a hand for me."

Elijah gently caressed Emily’s face as he said softly, " I would give anything to be with you, including my life."

Emily’s eyes were downcast as she pondered what Elijah had said. He told that story so calmly that it did not seem as if he were lying. Besides, he had really lost a hand, so perhaps he was telling the truth.

"Who was that woman? " Emily suddenly remembered the white haired woman who tried to strangle her," Is it true that she said I took you away from her?"

" Her name was Haley. She’s my sister." Elijah said," Haley has had delusions of grandeur since she was a child, and she thinks of me as the love of her life. She also sees every woman who comes around me as a rival, including the maids."

"But she says you treat her like a sacrifice."

"She’s crazy, don’t believe her. " Elijah said, "I should have banished her from the palace, but Haley is my sister, and I couldn’t bear to do it."

Emily looked down in thought: the white-haired woman certainly looked as if she were going mad.

" Emily," Elijah called softly to her.

Emily looked up, and as they locked eyes she saw the burning love in Elijah’s gaze. Elijah moved slowly closer to Emily, and he bent his head to kiss her.

"Elijah, don’t." Emily said subconsciously.

Elijah stopped and he gazed at her, " Emily, as soon as the war outside is over, I will come back to see you. Do you know how much I missed you?"

Emily’s eyes were downcast, and she did not know what to say. Her heart was in turmoil.

Elijah slipped his hand into Emily’s hair and he brought her closer to him." Don’t resist me, ok? " Elijah whispers in Emily’s ear, "I need you to respond to me a little."

When Elijah kissed Emily, her mind went blank. In that moment time seemed to stand still, and everything around her became a blur. His kiss was soft and lingering, like a spring breeze that lightly brushed her lips.

Emily did not repulse him, nor did she give him a passionate response. Her body stiffened slightly, and her mind was full of conflict and confusion. She did not know exactly what her feelings for Elijah were, or what the kiss meant.

All the while, Elijah is initiating Emily’s kiss. She was simply at his mercy. 𝕗𝗿𝕖𝐞𝐰𝗲𝕓𝐧𝕠𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝐨𝚖

When Elijah finished the kiss, he took Emily in his arms and he said to her, "Emily, I love you. Let’s get married tomorrow."
