Alpha's replacement bride is destined mate-Chapter 172 Escape
Emily carefully moved the slab above her head a little, and a gleam of light filtered in through a crack in the slab.
She put her ear close to the crack, and listened in silence for movement outside. The surroundings were silent, save for the slight sound of her own breathing, which rang in her ears.
After confirming that there was no sound outside, she then forced the heavy stone slab. The stone slab rubbed against the ground with a dull sound that seemed peculiarly abrupt in the stillness, and caused her heart to rise again in her throat.
Emily poked her head out, and the strong smell of cannon fumes mingled with the dust hit her nose. The pungent odor made her nose curl and her eyes sting a little. She fought off the discomfort and scrambled quickly out of the bomb shelter.
Emily stepped over a heap of glass and debris to reach her position by the window. The panes of the windows were shattered beyond recognition, and the sharp fragments gleamed coldly in the sunlight. Carefully avoiding the shards, she moved closer to the window and peered nervously through the shattered glass at the street outside. The sound of artillery bombardment outside had ceased, and the streets were a jumble of bombed-out buildings and burning wreckage.
A wave of grief swept over Emily. It was the PACK she had worked so hard to build, and now it lay in ruins. She could not wait to kill Dyson.
At that moment there was a sound outside, and Emily cautiously watched the movement. She saw several soldiers in black combat fatigues carrying weapons. They looked down to find something in the ruins.
" All of them search carefully, packs are not allowed to leave any survivors. Also find Luna Emily, even if she is dead. That’s an order!" A commanding officer gave orders to the other soldiers.
Emily’s heart leaped as she quickly crouched down and hid herself in the shadows below the window. The soldiers outside were looking for her. Why?
Suddenly someone pushed open the steel door of the safe house. The heavy iron door was slowly opened by some one, and a white light penetrated from without. Emily silently revealed her wolf-paws. She was prepared to fight to the death.
At that moment an explosion was heard outside. It was not very loud, but still distinctly audible, like the explosion of a small howitzer. The door, which had just been pushed open a quarter of the way, closed again, as if startled back by the sudden explosion. Immediately afterward, Emily heard someone yell from outside, "Everyone get over there." 𝐟𝚛𝕖𝚎𝕨𝗲𝐛𝚗𝐨𝐯𝐞𝕝.𝐜𝗼𝗺
A rush of feet passed by the safe-house, and the sound was swift and furious as a tidal wave. Presently there was no sound from without, as if everything had been swallowed up in the sudden change. The safe-house fell again into a dead silence.
Emily rushed at breakneck speed to the location that led to the underground air raid shelter. She came to the stone slab, and her hands closed on the edge, forcing it away. Then, without a moment’s hesitation, she slid down, and the moment her body made contact with the ground she felt a hint of coolness. She quickly adjusted her position to make sure she was safe. Then she put out her hands again and closed the stone slab. The stone slab fell slowly, with a dull sound, as if it were a barrier between her and the dangerous world outside.
Susan and Carl return just as Emily returns to Safe house Three’s underground passageway, bringing with them two survivors, a boy and his sister.
Emily gathered Susan and Carl and Dolly into another corner, where they were discussing how to get out of here.
" Dyson’s men are searching for the pack, they won’t leave every corner untouched. " Emily stood in the middle of the group and she told the group as a leader, "We have to get out of here."
"And where should we go? "Dolly said, "Dyson has control of the airport and there are his people all over the outside."
"We can go to my uncle’s pack," Susan suggested, "We’ll take the mountain road so we won’t be spotted by Dyson’s people."
" Do you have any other suggestions?" Emily looked at Carl.
" I agree with Susan’s idea." Carl said, " I’ve met Susan’s uncle and he’s a decent man. I think he will help us."
Emily thought for a moment, though she had never met Susan’s uncle, and she was not sure that he would take them in. But at the moment there is no better way to try.
"Then it’s decided. " Emily said.
As Carl had been involved in the construction of the shelter in the first place, he was more familiar with its surroundings than the others. Emily asked Carl to lead the group in the direction of the exit at the front, while she and Dolly took cover at the rear of the group.
They passed noiselessly through the tunnels of the air-raid shelters, some of which were unlighted and pitch-black, as if they were endless abysses. Damp air filled the entire bomb shelter and gave off a stale smell. The occasional sound of dripping water was particularly distinct in the still darkness, as if it were the sound of time passing.
At last Carl found the exit. He stepped on to the stone steps, and the slab above him was heavy, and Carl moved it with a force that made a dull sound. A faint light filtered through the gap.
Carl moved the slab completely out of the way, and one by one they made their way out of the shelter. It was now quite dark outside, and only a faint starlight illumined the path beneath them.
Carl pointed to a thick grove of trees in front of them and said to Emily, "If we go through this grove and then in an eastern direction, we’ll end up over two mountains and reach the Purple Star Pack (Uncle Susan’s pack)."
Emily glanced at the woods, which seemed to go on for as long as she could see under the shroud of darkness.
" Let’s go." Emily told the group.
"Why can’t we take a break? " Mina whined, "I’m hungry."
"Me too. " Maggie looked at Emily pathetically, "I just can’t walk anymore."
Even though Emily noticed that the others were showing signs of exhaustion as well, she was adamant, "We’ll rest when we get to those woods."
"OK. " Maggie tugged on the straps of her backpack as she lowered her head and moved her feet slowly.
The party went on their way, but soon after the sound of a dog barking was heard not far behind them. Emily stopped in her tracks, and the bark of the dog cut the stillness of the night like a sharp blade. Emily’s heart skipped a beat, and the bark of the dog cut the stillness of the night like a sharp blade.
Emily’s heart skipped a beat, and her nervousness spread rapidly like a tidal wave. She and Carl exchanged glances, "It’s Dog slave’s voice!" Carl whispered.
"It must be Dyson’s people with Dog slaves looking for us."
" Dog slaves will find our trail based on the scent." Susan gave a nervous look, "What do we do?"
Emily forced herself to compose herself, her thoughts racing. As the hours passed, and the barking of the dogs came nearer and nearer, the nerves of all became more and more strained.
" I have an idea." Maggie’s voice broke the stifling tension. Every eye was fixed on her for an instant.
