Chapter 168: Chapter 168 What’s Not Right

North, Green Forest Pack.

" Why are we leaving here?" Mina crossed her arms as she angrily confronted Emily.

" Our vacation isn’t over yet, you can’t send us back to the Capitol." said Maggie, her freckled face slightly flushed with anger.

" Girls, now we are at war with the Western Army. This is a reserve military area, and for your safety you must leave the pack early,"Emily patiently explained to the twin princesses, even though she had told the twins the day before about this decision that she was sending them back to the Capitol. But the twin princesses did not take Emily’s words at all seriously, and it was not until to-day, after Dolly had packed her bags, that they realized the truth of what she had said.

" I’m not leaving." Mina sat down playfully on the floor, her hands gripping the railing of the passage.

" Emily, aren’t you afraid we’ll tell our mother that you abused us?" Maggie threatened Emily like an imp.

Emily was unimpressed as she lowered her voice and said to the twins, "Lying girls are punished .oh. How about picking mushrooms?"

"No! " Mina practically screamed.

"I don’t want to pick mushrooms. "Maggie blanched as if she’d heard something terrible, and she yelled at Emily, "Emily, I didn’t realize you were as hateful as Klaus."

"Girls, you have to leave the pack," Emily said calmly, "I’ve already told your mom about what’s going on here and she approves of my decision. So stop complaining okay?"

Mina and Maggie looked at each other, and after a few seconds, after they decided that there was no wiggle room in the matter of returning to the Capitol, Mina only nodded her head, "Okay. But you must promise us that we will come here every year for the holidays from now on.

"And you have to reserve a room for us to use as a laboratory. " Maggie took the opportunity to bargain.

Emily glanced at the twins as she said helplessly, "If your mother is okay with you coming here on vacation."

"She’d definitely approve. " Mina interjected.

At that moment, Dolly pushed her suitcase out of the room and she said to the twin princesses, " Princesses, it’s time to leave or we’re going to miss our flight."

Maggie grabbed Dolly’s arm and asked, "Dolly, are you coming back to the Capitol with us too?"

Dolly stroked Maggie’s head as she said gently, " I’ll see you all back to the Capitol and then back again."

" No, I want you to stay with us in the Capitol." Maggie said relentlessly, "Our lives will be boring without you."

" We need you to play games with us?" Mina put on a pitiful face and begged, " Please, Dolly. Don’t leave us."

" I’ll miss you guys." Dolly said.

"Okay, it’s time to go." Emily urged the twins. After all, it was still some distance to the airport for the packers, and if they dawdled any longer they would miss their flight.

The twins came down the stairs with a look of reluctance on their faces, and when they came out of the door Susan was standing by the car waiting for them. Since it happened to be Susan’s day off, Emily had arranged for her to drive the Princesses to the airport.

The twin princesses moved slowly toward the car, Susan opening the door and carefully closing it for them once inside.

Dolly, in the passenger seat, waved at Emily through the window before Susan started the car and drove slowly away.

Emily watched the car fade away, the lifted dust glistening slightly in the sunlight. She stood silent, and as soon as the car was quite out of sight, Emily finally breathed a sigh of relief, and only after she had dropped off the twin princesses was she able to go to the front without apprehension.

.....................

Emily was carrying a rucksack. She went to the exit of the pack and waited. Her eyes were fixed on the road ahead, anticipating the arrival of the military truck.

Soon, a military truck slowly approached her. The great body glistened metallic in the sunlight, and the roar of the engines broke the silence around her. The truck pulled up alongside Emily, kicking up a cloud of dust. When the door opened Emily did not hesitate to jump in.

Carl had both hands on the steering wheel as he greeted Emily softly, "Good morning, Luna."

" Good morning, Carl." Emily tossed her backpack into the back seat, then deftly fastened her seat belt.

The truck started up again and moved slowly forward.

"How long will it take us to get to the forward reserve camp? " Emily asked.

" About four hours." Carl unscrewed the cap of a bottle of functional drink with one hand and drank half of it in a single gulp.

" I heard from the soldiers on the front line that the Western Army raided our camp in the middle of the night. Alpha Klaus led the army all the way to chase the western army and the battle line moved forward again."

" They were attacked by the western army?" Emily asked nervously, " Have you heard anything?"

" The main army are following Alpha Klaus in pursuit of the Western Army, the reserve camps are only picking up and dropping off supplies at the moment. That’s all I know. " Carl said.

Emily looked apprehensively at the road ahead. She had thought that she would be able to see Klaus as soon as she reached the reserve camp, but now it seemed that she might not be able to see Klaus even if she went to the front.

Perhaps she ought to have contacted Klaus before she left, but if she had taken it upon herself to tell him that she was going to the front, he would certainly not have approved.

"Maybe you should call Alpha Klaus if you want to see him. " Carl suggested, "Calling Alpha on the military phone in the backup camp will surely get him."

"Let’s wait until we get to the reserve camp. " Emily put the question to the back of her mind for the moment, she was going to decide once she got to the camp.

As the truck moved slowly along, Emily cocked her head to one side and closed her eyes. She had been working late into the night last night, for she had to get the work in hand done before she could leave the packing. She also explained that Susan would take over for the time being while she was away.

Emily knew that it would be unwise for her to leave the pack without authority, but she must go to the front herself. She wanted to make sure Klaus was safe and sound before she could rest easily.

That nightmare had made her cringe, and she was afraid of actually losing Klaus.

Emily’s thoughts were interrupted by the sharp ring of the telephone. She opened her eyes and watched the name flash on the screen; It was Dolly on the phone.

So Emily pressed the answer button, " What is it?"

" Emily, something is wrong." Dolly said urgently. Her voice had a hollow echo, as if she were speaking in some confined space.

" Did something happen to those two girls?" Emily asked.

" No." Dolly said, " We couldn’t board the plane. The airport staff told us that all planes are suspended for today."

" What?" Emily immediately sat up straight, " Didn’t you show them your identification?"

The twin princesses were travelling on a royal jet. How could those airport workers dare to stop a royal jet from taking off?

" After I showed them my identity information, a few Alpha Warriors immediately took us to the VIP room of the airport. They didn’t allow us to wander around." Dolly’s voice was low, " I excused myself to use the restroom so I could call you. Emily, I think I just saw Dyson in the lobby of the airport."

"What? " Emily was surprised, "You saw Dyson?"

At that moment there was a busy signal at the other end of the line, and Dolly hung up. A sudden busy signal buzzed in Emily’s ears, as if it foretold something ominous to come. 𝘧𝘳𝘦ℯ𝓌𝘦𝒷𝘯𝑜𝑣𝘦𝓁.𝒸𝘰𝓂

After a few seconds, a strong sense of uneasiness rose in Emily’s mind, and she tried Dolly’s number, her fingers eagerly tapping the numbers on her phone screen. All that responded to her, however, was an unbroken silence.

Emily noticed that her cell phone signal, which showed the symbol of a cross, was down. The little punch mark was like a piercing warning, and her heart sank within her.

"Carl, lend me your cell phone." Emily said eagerly.

However, as Carl hands Emily his cell phone, she notices that Carl’s cell phone signal is down as well. His cell phone simply would not dial anyone’s number, and the cold screen and silent beeps chilled Emily’s heart to the core.

Is something wrong with Dolly?

At that moment, Carl noticed something was wrong and he asked, "What happened to Luna?"

" We’ve all lost signal on our cell phones." Emily’s brow furrowed as her eyes fell on the black walkie-talkie in front of her.

"Carl, try to get in touch with the other trucks on the intercom and see if we’re the only ones having problems." Emily said.

Carl nodded as he deftly adjusted the walkie-talkie’s frequency, trying to find other possible sources of the signal. But no matter how hard he tried, there was always the same desperate murmur over the intercom.

"What the hell is going on here?" Carl was puzzled. "All communication is down, this is not normal."

Emily bit her lip, trying to keep her cool. "Something must have happened to cause this. We have to find a way to restore communications as soon as possible."

They continued to try various methods in the truck, but were never able to break through this communication barrier. Time passed, and the uneasiness increased in the cab.

"Carl, we are returning to the pack immediately." Emily ordered.

"Now?" Carl asked with some surprise.

"Now." Emily’s tone was firm.

The next second, Carl quickly swerved the car and the truck sped down the road. Emily’s eyes were fixed on the front, and her ears echoed Dolly’s words.

Dyson, Dolly said she had seen Dyson.

Why was Dyson at the airport? Why is the plane not taking off? Why did Alpha Warrior put Dolly and the twin princesses under house arrest? How could the signal be interrupted at such a time?

All these questions echoed in Emily’s mind at the same time, and she grew more and more uneasy. Something must be wrong.
