Alpha's replacement bride is destined mate-Chapter 136 I Can Feel Your Emotions
There was a brief silence, and only the sound of two people breathing could be heard in the quiet bedroom. Klaus let out a dull sigh as he released Emily’s hand.
"Nothing." He stood up and pulled on his pants. "I’ll go out on the balcony for a cigarette."
Emily watched Klaus’s retreating back, lost in thought: he must have something to hide from me.
After a few minutes, Klaus hadn’t returned. So Emily put on her nightgown and ventured out onto the balcony.
Klaus stood on the balcony with his back to her, the fountain’s water gurgling softly, the cigarette between his fingers glowing faintly red in the night, and the white smoke surrounding him. His back looked tall and lonely in the pale moonlight.
He stood still, blending in with the night.
"Klaus," Emily called out softly, approaching him. She looked up into his deep eyes. "Have you forgotten that we’ve made a psychic connection? I can feel your emotions."
She could sense the irritability, the worry, and the anxiety in him.
Klaus stubbed out his cigarette, and the last wisps of white smoke drifted slowly from his nostrils. He hesitated for a moment before confessing, "It’s about the pack."
"What’s wrong with the pack?" Emily asked.
"Since there are only eighty people left in my pack, the king wants my pack to merge with the Green Forest pack."
"That doesn’t sound like a bad thing," Emily said.
"But the Green Forest pack is on the border, and if we go to war with the West, it will become a war zone," Klaus explained. "I don’t want you anywhere near the battlefield."
Emily stared deeply into Klaus’s eyes, seeking more information from them. Oh, she remembered that his former mate had died on the battlefield while searching for him.
She instantly understood what he meant. 𝗳𝗿𝐞𝕖𝘄𝗲𝕓𝗻𝚘𝚟𝕖𝐥.𝚌𝕠𝕞
"I won’t let you be distracted while you’re fighting," she said. "But if you’re in danger, wherever you are, I’m going to save you."
"Emily, you promised me that you wouldn’t go to the battlefield to look for me," Klaus said seriously. "Even if I’m in danger, you can’t go to the battlefield."
"I promised I wouldn’t distract you from the fight, but I won’t stand by and watch you get into danger like a fool," Emily said, her tone as firm as a rock. "We’re mates, and we’re supposed to be fighting together."
"I don’t need you to fight alongside me. I just need your peace. I promised to make you happy."
"I will be happy with you, and I can’t live without you. Besides, isn’t it the duty of mates to help each other? I didn’t have my wolf before, so I always needed to hide behind you. Now that my wolf is back, I have enough abilities to fight alongside you. Klaus, stop thinking of me as the fragile girl I used to be."
Klaus’s expression stiffened, and he was silent for a few seconds. "We don’t need to discuss the issue of life and death now."
Let’s talk about the merger of packs." Emily said, "If you don’t take over the Green Forest pack, how are you going to accommodate the remaining eighty people? Are you going to make them outcasts? If so, you might as well keep them in their original pack."
"So, you want me to take over the Green Forest pack?"
"Yes," Emily replied.
"But you have to promise..."
"Klaus, didn’t I make it clear enough?" Emily interrupted him, "Let me say it again, I’m not going to distract you during the fight, but I’m also not going to watch you get into danger and do nothing."
"So, what are you going to do if I’m surrounded by enemies?" Klaus asked rhetorically.
"I’ll rush to the battlefield with our men, and I’ll show my wolf claws and crush their skulls."
Sounds bloody. The corners of Klaus’s mouth curled up, and he looked at Emily with a smirk, "Will you fight, Lady?"
Emily’s face was displeased, and Klaus’s words were defiant, making it clear that he was belittling her.
"Or I can do nothing," Emily crossed her arms over her chest and said angrily, "When you’re dead, I’ll go back to the South. I’m sure King James will find me a new husband."
"How dare you find a new husband?" Klaus grabbed her wrist, his eyes full of anger, "Is this your plan? When I’m dead, are you going to be with another man?"
Emily shook his hand away, "Since you want me to leave you alone, do as you wish. Dead people aren’t going to scold me anyway."
She turned away angrily, but before she took two steps, she was picked up from behind by Klaus.
"Let go of me, you bastard," Emily shouted over Klaus’s shoulder.
Klaus slapped Emily playfully on the butt, "Now I’m a jerk, am I? But that’s not what you called me just now. You told me to go ahead, go ahead."
"Shut up," Klaus’s teasing words made Emily blush, and she punched Klaus in the back, but he didn’t respond, as if Emily’s fist had hit a pillow.
Klaus carried Emily into the bedroom, where he placed her on the bed, and when she tried to get up and run away, he immediately pinned her down with his body.
Klaus grabbed Emily’s wrist and stared into her eyes, "Now, tell me, who’s the bastard?"
Emily didn’t say a word, she twisted her head to the side. Her eyes lowered, and after a moment, a teardrop slipped from the corner of her eye.
"Did I hurt you?" Klaus nervously let go of Emily’s hand and softly reassured her, "I’m sorry, lover."
"Klaus..." Her voice choked.
"Yes."
"I don’t want you to die."
"I’m not going to die," Klaus kissed the tears away from the corners of her eyes, "I promise."
"If you die, I will die too," Emily wrapped her arm around Klaus’ neck, "I’d rather die with you than live alone."
"We’re all going to live well," Klaus’s voice was hoarse, "Forget those unpleasant words."
"So, you’re going to take over the Green Forest pack, right?"
"Yes."
"Then you’ll let me go to the border with you, right?"
"Yes."
"And will you let me fight alongside you?"
Klaus hesitated, "Perhaps."
Emily’s lips were close to Klaus’s ear, "I love you."
"I love you too," Klaus leaned to the side and hugged Emily from behind, "Let me sleep with you like this, okay?"
Emily mumbled, and she slowly closed her eyes. They just hugged and slept all night.
.........
The next day, Klaus went to the royal office to sign the paperwork for taking over the Green Forest pack, and he also brought a message to Emily.
"Now that our pack has officially merged with the Green Forest pack, our people are going to live in the Green Forest pack’s territory," Klaus grimaced, "But I can’t leave the capital yet. The king needs me to help him make a battle plan. So..."
"So, I need to take those eighty people to the Green Forest pack myself, right?" Emily said, "Don’t worry, I can handle it."
"I’ll send Marx with you," Klaus wasn’t reassured, "If you have anything you can’t solve, call me immediately."
"I will," Emily smiled and said, "When can I go?"
"A week later," Klaus hugged Emily tightly, "I really miss you."
Emily leaned into Klaus’s arms, looking out the window at the gray sky. A cold wind blew in through the window, and she felt a little chilled.
It’s almost autumn. She wondered if the autumn at the border would be colder than here. What else did she need to bring besides more clothes?
