Chapter 127: Chapter 127 You shall get used to living here

The plane descended slowly, and out of the window the northern night was singularly cold and mysterious. The airport’s lights twinkled like bright stars in the darkness, illuminating the busy land.

Emily and Klaus step off the plane, followed by Dolly and Marx. A black royal car was already parked beside it, and they got into it to return to the palace.

As the car meanders through the downtown streets, Emily leans against Klaus, her eyes peering out the window.

The shop signs on either side of the road were brightly lit and blinding, and many passers-by passed and repassed. Street performers put on a great show in the corner. A guitarist played a melodious tune that drew passers-by to stop and listen. The magician next to him conjured amazing tricks with his dexterous hands, and the audience cheered now and then. There are also painters who paint portraits of people on the spot, the brush dancing over the paper, and in a very short time sketching a life-like likeness.

The capital of the northern kingdom seemed to give Emily a more intimate feeling than the capital of the south, and she was more familiar with the place.

At last the car arrived at the palace, and as soon as Emily stepped out of the door the twin princesses immediately lunged at her.

"Emily, you’re finally back." Mina hugged Emily and said, "I miss you so much."

"Emily, who is this woman?" Maggie’s eyes stared curiously at Dolly standing aside, "Have you changed your maid? The maid did not look the same as the last time. "

"She’s not my maid, she’s my best friend, and her name is Dolly." Emily introduces the twin princesses.

So, will she live in the palace with you in the future?" Mina asked with a wink.

"Yes." Emily said, turning to introduce the two princesses to Dolly, "Dolly, they’re Klaus’ sisters, Mina and Maggie. "

"It’s a pleasure to meet you, Your Highness." Dolly saluted both princesses respectfully.

"Emily, let’s go." Mina said to Emily, "We’ve got a gift for you. "

Minna then took Emily by the hand and started for the palace, Dolly and Maggie following them. Mina led Emily to her room, where she mysteriously took from a drawer a beautifully wrapped box and handed it to Emily.

"Turn it on, Emily." Mina said.

But when Emily opened the box she found inside a clear glass bottle filled with pale green water in which many small black tadpoles were swimming.

"Tadpoles?" Emily’s eyes widened.

Dolly, who stood beside her, watching closely the little black dots that swam in the bottle, looked no less surprised.

This is no ordinary tadpole." Maggie explains, "This is what we found when we were in girls’ school."

"So, do they mean something special?" Emily felt helpless at this point. She knew that the two princesses did not think in the same way as the average person, but there were times when she really could not keep up with the rhythm of their thoughts.

" The girls’ school my mother sent us to was in the middle of nowhere, and every night we would hear frogs croaking as we slept. So Maggie and I decided to collect those tadpoles, and she wants to take them back to the palace and give them to you. She wants you to raise these tadpoles, and when they become frogs, you will be able to hear the frogs." Mina excitedly said, "That sound is just amazing."

Now we sleep at night, and we cannot sleep if we do not hear the frogs. "So I changed my bedtime lullaby to a frog call."

"Wow." Emily placed the glass bottle containing the tadpole on the table, "Thank you for the gift, but I don’t have the habit of listening to frogs before bed. I think I’ll leave the tadpoles with you."

"Oh, really?" Mina happily said, "Are you going to give us these tadpoles?"

"Yes, take it." Emily said.

"We’ll raise these tadpoles for you." Maggie said, "When they turn into frogs, I’ll give you one."

"No thanks." Emily laughed dryly.

When she and Dolly looked at each other, she saw Dolly’s expression as if to say to her, "Is there something wrong with them?"

"Emily, sit down." Maggie tugged at Emily’s arm, "Tell us what happened to you in the South?"

So Emily had to sit down and tell the twin princesses all about her visit to the South, and she did not tell them much about herself and her stepmother.

She simply introduced them to Southern customs and food, and so on. Presently one of the maids came and urged Emily to return to her room, which the maid said was Klaus’s order.

But the twin princesses were not pleased to let her go, and pestered Emily and Dolly. The twins insisted that one of them stay, so Dolly chose to stay so Emily could leave.

When Emily returned to her room, Klaus was not there. So she went to the bathroom to take a shower, and when she was ready to go to bed, she remembered the letter that King James had written to her.

So Emily found the letter in her portmanteau, and, sitting down on the sofa, carefully opened it.

Dear Emily: When you read this, I think you ought to leave the South. Although we have only been together for a short time, I am grateful for it.

Every day after you left I would think of you, and I would worry if you were out there by mistake, if you were in danger. Emily, I want you to know that I am your strongest support, no matter where or when. Remember, you belong to the South. If life in the North makes you unhappy, you may return at any time, and I shall welcome you with open arms.

——love to your father

Emily was struck with a feeling of melancholy when she saw the signature on the letter. Could it be that King James was indeed her father? She had refused to face the question, but his care for her had softened her hard heart.

While she was thus distracted, Klaus had just returned to her room. His face was somewhat grave, and there was a hint of exhaustion in his eyes.

"Where did you just go?" Emily returned the letter to the envelope.

"I just went to see my father." Klaus sat beside Emily, and he took her in his arms.

"Did something happen?" Emily asked.

Klaus sighed lightly, "My father has decided to go to war with the West in three months, and I will leave you for a while. "

Emily closed the envelope in an instant, and her heart sank to the bottom of the sea like a boulder. She was uneasy; she had not expected to be separated from Klaus so soon.

Suddenly the nightmare came back to her, and she thought of Klaus and Elijah dueling on the field of battle. She did not wish that dream to come true.

"Klaus, don’t go." Emily whispered.

"What’s wrong with you?" Klaus cut her face and he stared at her, "Don’t worry, this isn’t my first time on the battlefield. I’ll be fine. "

"You promise me that you will come back safely." Emily’s eyes reddened.

"I promise you, I’ll definitely come back." Klaus kissed Emily on the cheek, "But you also have to promise me not to go to the front, just wait for me in the capital, okay?"

She knew that he did not want her to go to the front because his first mate had died, because he had gone to the front in search of him, and that he did not want to be distracted while he was fighting.

"I promise you, I’ll wait here for you to come back." Emily hugged Klaus tightly, "I love you, Klaus. "

"I love you too." Klaus said.
