Alpha's Lost Luna Returns With His Twins-Chapter 238-Let’s See Your Lycan, My Queen
Kash:
"I’m going out, and I want you to take care of my children until I return, okay?" I whispered to Zoe after knocking, while she yawned and stretched sleepily in front of her room.
"Where are you heading so early in the morning?" she asked in a sleepy voice, trying not to make loud sounds because Amy and Colin were sleeping in her bedroom.
Mathew was not allowed in her room, and thankfully she had set that boundary herself.
"ummm" I muttered, placing my hand on the door frame and leaning against it. "I need to do something important," I whispered.
"Okay, it’s fine. You can go ahead and trust me with the children," she replied softly, giving me a reassuring nod.
I knew my sister was someone I could trust. She had been really helpful during this time, taking care of my children. None of them had complained about her behavior.
"Thank you," I told her, relieved that she did not press me with questions, even though she probably knew I was hiding something.
I stepped into the room and leaned over the bed, kissing Amy on the forehead. Then I reached over to Colin and kissed him too.
When I pulled back, I noticed Zoe hugging herself in her comfy robe, and her eyes showed that she still had questions.
"What is going on? Where are you going? You’re worrying me," she whispered, pointing out the way I was acting.
"It’s not that dangerous. I just missed spending time with them," I answered, trying to comfort her.
"If Mom wakes up and starts asking questions, just make up some excuses," I added. She tilted her head, then realized what I meant.
"Oh, the lockdown," she uttered.
My mother had fallen asleep very early the day before, so she did not hear the announcement about the full-day lockdown. I knew that the moment she woke up and tried to go for her morning walk or meet her friends, and they told her she could not go, she would start asking questions.
"I’ll tell her that some criminal escaped from prison," Zoe said, making me look at her with admiration for coming up with such a quick plan.
Honestly, I had not been able to think of any excuse to explain why I was putting the entire pack on lockdown. But Zoe was right. That excuse would work.
"Thank you once again," I said, and she stepped forward to give me a lazy hug.
"Now go, finish your work, and come back to your children," she called with a smile.
I walked briskly toward the exit and headed for the door.
When I entered my bedroom, I saw that Iris was already dressed for the day. I knew she was anxious.
She walked out, and we sat in the car together as our journey began.
I watched her from the driver’s seat as she sat stiff beside me, arms folded tight across her chest and her jaw clenched.
That was her look whenever she refused to give in. Iris had once again made it clear that she would not forgive me until I gave her an answer that truly comforted her, one that proved I had never chosen anyone over her, not even for a crown or the Blue River water.
Because of that, she had refused the juice last night. Thankfully, I had not used the pearl.
It was still safe, and I would only use it when she chose to trust me enough to accept something from my hands.
We were on the road toward the woods, and the silence between us felt suffocating. I kept my eyes forward, but every now and then I adjusted the mirror to look at her.
Each time, she reached up and shoved it away sharply. I knew she was overwhelmed.
She wanted to be with the children, but she could not risk it before her first shift. She was like a ticking bomb, and I could not let her explode near them.
She looked out the window, and I followed her gaze. The roads were empty. No warriors, no pack members, no children heading to school.
"So the whole pack is on lockdown?" she asked, even though I had already told her that morning.
"I told you. I did it for you," I said quietly, hoping it might soften her.
She scoffed.
"You probably did it because you were scared I’d hurt our kids," she muttered, adjusting her arms more tightly across her chest.
"No. I did it because I couldn’t watch you suffer," I snapped, then fixed my hands on the steering wheel again. "You’ll soon—" I cleared my throat.
"You’ll soon realize I love you and didn’t pick anyone over you, blah, blah, blah," she cut in, mocking me. 𝒇𝓻𝓮𝓮𝙬𝙚𝒃𝒏𝓸𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝓬𝓸𝒎
I tightened my grip on the wheel, though part of me almost laughed at her imitation. The sharpness in her voice came from fear.
This was her first shift. Of course she was nervous, and she was not even trying to hide it.
"It’s okay," I said more gently as I pulled the car to a stop near the woods. "You’ll be fine. Your father is here, and so is his right-hand man, James."
I unbuckled my seatbelt, then reached over to undo hers when she did not move.
"I’m not nervous," she replied quickly. But her fingers curled tight at her sides, and her eyes moved too fast across the treeline. Her shoulders were rigid. She was nervous.
"Come on. We shouldn’t waste time," I said as I stepped out of the car, walked around, and opened her door.
My phone had been lighting up with calls from Lara, but I had ignored every one of them. Iris noticed, but she said nothing.
She did not ask what was happening between Lara and me again, or whether I truly meant what I said about not bringing her back.
I would deal with Lara later. Right now, Iris mattered.
I held out my hand to help her out, but she ignored it and stepped down on her own. She drew in a deep breath and looked around at the cloudy sky and the still woods ahead.
She walked ahead of me for a few seconds before slowing and letting me guide her. I had prepared a secure area deep in the woods.
Iron gates surrounded a wide stretch of land, placed far enough out that she could run freely without reaching any populated zones.
Warriors were stationed along the distant roads, not to stop her, but to keep anyone from wandering out.
When we reached the clearing, Iris moved faster, heading straight for her father near the treeline. James stood at his side, and Walkin was a short distance away.
All three had clearly been waiting. Her father had suggested bringing Luca, but I refused. Too many people would only make this harder for her.
Iris went to Walkin first. Her steps slowed as she reached him.
"I’m sorry for attacking you," she said quietly. It was a softness she no longer used with me, and the contrast made my chest tighten.
Walkin smiled and clasped his hands behind his back.
"It’s fine. I just had to take a little claw for a taste," he joked.
She gave him a small nod, then turned to her father. He pulled her into a firm hug, his hand pressing to the back of her head.
"You’ll do fine," he murmured. "I’m just glad you’re finally getting your lycan. You’ll be strong."
She stepped back with a faint smile, then nodded once to James and the rest of us. She was ready.
Walkin moved away. Her father and James followed, turning their backs to give her privacy. I stayed where I was, still facing her.
She reached for the zipper of her jacket, then looked up and frowned at me.
"Why do you think I’m taking my clothes off in front of you?" she asked sharply.
I rolled my eyes and turned around. "Fine. I’m not looking."
Behind me, I heard fabric shift and her feet scrape lightly against the dirt. Then the sounds stopped. The air changed.
A crack split through the silence, followed by a low growl that seemed to rise from the ground itself.
Leaves trembled as her weight shifted. Then came a strained whimper, quickly swallowed by a harsher sound as bone reshaped under skin.
The noises grew deeper. A broken howl tore through the clearing, sharp enough to raise the hair on my arms.
Claws scraped hard against the soil. A guttural snarl followed. Branches snapped as her body jerked and expanded.
Her breathing turned uneven, forced between growls.
No one moved. No one spoke. We just listened. The sounds went on for long minutes, each crack and growl a reminder of the pain of a first shift.
When the noise finally faded into heavy breathing, I turned slowly. The others followed.
She stood there in her lycan form, enormous and black, her fur dark as night and her frame far larger than I had imagined.
