Chapter 83: Chapter 83

Briella POV

The only reason why I had insisted on working in Kai’s office was not that I could find every excuse to see him whenever I wanted.

I strode into the administrative wing of the Pack Office building, my heels clicking against the tiled floor. The confrontation with Lily earlier today in school had put me in a very good mood and had earned me my points. Sooner or later, Kai’s relationship with Lily will come to light and by that time, everyone will see how unfit she is to be Luna.

I was Kai’s perfect match and I’m sure everyone saw it too.

When I arrived at the session that leads to Kai’s office, I reached for my ID to scan into the building but the scanner beeped, the light flashing red instead of green. I frowned and tried again, adjusting the angle of my card to fit properly into the scanner but still, the light refused to turn to green.

I stood there, my heart racing with anger and disbelief as I looked around, hoping to catch the gaze of any of the security men stationed around the area. Thankfully, I got one and beckoned him to come.

“What’s going on?” I asked “Why is the thing not working? Why isn’t it signing me in?”

The security looked at me for a few seconds before muttering. “Alpha Kai didn’t tell you anything.”

“Tell me what?” I shouted “Why am I being delayed from accessing the building? Hurry up and fix it now,” I threw my card at him. “I’ll make sure Alpha Kai fires every one of you on the security team since you can’t do your jobs properly.”

The security bent down and picked up my card before he came to me again. “I’m sorry, Miss, but your access to this side of the building has been deactivated.”

“What?” I snapped, fighting the urge to slap the security across his face. “That’s impossible. I’m sure there must be some mistake. I’m Briella Alpha Kai’s fiancée. How can I be denied access to the Alpha? Besides I work here.”

The security shook his head, shifting his weight from one foot to another uncomfortable. “I’m afraid but it’s not a mistake. Your name is no longer on the approved personnel list. You’ll need to speak with someone higher up if you want clarification.”

“And that is the Alpha, right? Well, use your card or something, at least let me go to Kia and know what’s going on.”

“The order was from the Alpha himself,” the guard said quietly.

I froze, feeling embarrassment crawl up my cheeks.

“What! That’s not possible. Kai would never do that.”

The security didn’t say anything he just kept staring at me. “Go ahead and call him or allow me to go see him. Maybe he meant someone else with the same name as me,” I tried to push past him but the security blocked the road. “Go ahead and call him now!”

“I’m sorry Miss, but you need to leave now. The Alpha was specific in his instructions.”

My face was now flushed with anger and embarrassment. Turning, I stormed out of the building. This must be some oversight on Kai’s part. He needs me – there’s no way he would purposely block me off.

By the time I arrived at the pack house, My anger could raze down an entire building. I burst into the compound already screaming at the top of my voice to my maid to fix me a bath but there was no response.

Nobody ran out to meet me.

I saw a couple of some of the pack house domestic staff, lounging in the common area, whispering amongst themselves. I ignored them and called out for my maid again, but no response.

Suddenly I spotted an Omega sitting at the entrance, overseeing a pile of luggage. I marched over to where she was.

“Hey you, can you go and call me Freya – my maid and...”

I paused when I spotted a familiar bag in the pile of luggage near the entrance. Pausing, I took another step closer, realizing they were all mine. I turned to the Omega standing near the pile.

“What is this?” I demanded, pointing at the pile.

The Omega flinched but quickly composed herself. “Your belongings, Miss Briella. I was instructed to have them ready for your departure.”

“Departure,” I stared at her in incredulity. “Who gave you that order?”

The Omega hesitated, her eyes darting nervously. “I...I believe it came from Luna Helen.”

My jaw tightened. Of course, she was the only one who had as much power as Kai in the pack to give such others. Why did she want me gone? Was this a mistake? Maybe an attempt by Kai because he was angry about something.

“I want to see Luna Helen,” I barked and started walking towards the pack house. Almost immediately, two guards blocked the entrance.

“I’m afraid, Miss, we cannot allow you in. The Luna is resting and doesn’t want to see anyone.”

“Well, I am not just anyone,” I tried to fight the hysterics pushing at the edge of my insanity. “I am Briella, Alpha Kai’s fiancé. Hurry and tell her it’s me, you’ll see she’d want to see me too.”

The guards didn’t say anything, they just remained stoically at the door.

“Please!” my voice cracked as I tried to swallow the tears that gathered in my eyes making my vision blurry. “Just a minute with her. I’m sure all of this is a misunderstanding.”

No one answered me. A tear rolled down my cheeks but I swiped at it furiously. I didn’t deserve to be treated this way. If Kai wanted to reject me or cut me out, I would not beg. I would not show weakness.

Gritting my teeth, I spun on my heel and stormed out of the pack house. Feeling humiliated, discarded and livid.

A few hours later, I had ended up at a dimly lit bar on the edge of the pack.

I came here because I couldn’t afford for anyone to recognize me at the more popular bars in the Pack town. I was nursing my third drink, my eyes were already swimming in and out of focus but I couldn’t care less. The sting of Kai’s rejection and the humiliation I faced today still felt fresh.

I downed the whiskey shot in one go and slammed the glass on the counter.

“Another shot,” I slurred to the bartender. “Just bring me the whole goddamn bottle.”

“Maybe you should slow down,” a deep voice drawled from behind me.
