Alpha's Hidden Precious Luna-Chapter 69
Lily POV
“That was good,” I croaked weakly.
I was in Kai’s arms on the bed, with my body aching deliciously as we decided to take a break. We’ve been trying to quieten the burn between us and I lost count at the fifth round.
Kai – or was it just Alpha males, didn’t seem to have gotten enough of me. Even now, he was gently stroking my back and I could feel his third leg, pressing warmly against my thigh.
“Mmm...” he murmured in agreement pressing a light kiss on my hair. “Are you alright? Do you feel any pain? Or ache?”
I chuckled “My entire body is covered with hickeys – your hickeys Kai. I hope they disappear by Monday. It’ll be difficult to explain how I got them.”
He leaned away from me, slowly dropping me on the mountain of pillows on the bed as he stared at me supporting himself with his elbow. “We could complete it with my mark,” his eyes strayed to my neck. “Once I mark you, everyone would just assume you had a wild night with your mate.”
“And everyone would want to know who my mate is, Kai,” I sighed pushing back the covers as I swung my leg over the edge of the bed, grabbing, Kai’s discarded shirt before slipping it on. “We need to deal with the Briella issue first before we worry about you marking me or not.”
“You’re making it sound like you don’t think we can ever be together,” he rose from the bed and started towards me, naked.
Immediately, I turned away, staring at the wall. “M-Maybe you should put something on first,” I stuttered. “You can’t walk around naked.”
“You didn’t have a problem with me being naked a few minutes ago,” he smirked, coming closer. “Why are you suddenly concerned?”
I was backed to the wall now, as he tried to reach for me, I bent down and slipped through his open arms, moving to the other side of the room. “I’m just going to go to the kitchen. I’m hungry. You can join me when you’re dressed.”
I wasn’t shy about seeing him naked, I was worried about the thoughts that ran through my head, seeing him with his deliciously, sexy body.
I didn’t know if it was the mate bond but... just now, I wanted a repeat of the lovemaking we’ve been doing all day and it frightened me.
He smirked and before I could reach for the door handle, he reached out and pulled me closer to him. “I’m all sweaty and sticky, how about we take a bath first?”
The bath was longer than planned because Kai suddenly remembered he had never had sex in the bathroom and me too. By the time we were done, the water in the tub had gone cold and we decided to shower anyway.
Steam rose from my coffee mug as I sat at Kai’s sleek kitchen island, wrapped in his oversized shirt that barely covered my thighs - since he had managed to rip everything of mine apart - the only piece of clothing that survived was my bra.
And since I didn’t want to risk it with any of my clothes again, I decided to wear his. He could afford new clothes. I cannot.
My hair was still damp from our shared shower and pleasant aches reminded me of how passionate our evening was. I couldn’t help but smile as I watched Kai, wearing only sweatpants slung low on his hips, rummaging through his refrigerator.
He had forgotten to pick up the food he ordered and all that lovemaking had made us super hungry.
“Scrambled eggs, okay?” He asked emerging with a carton of eggs and various vegetables. “Don’t worry, I can cook this one.”
“Perfect,” I replied with a smile, trying not to stare at the marks I’d left on his broad shoulders. The memory of how I had gotten them on him, made heat rush to my cheeks.
Kai glanced at me, with knowing eyes, a flirtatious smirk playing on his lips as he began chopping the ball peppers. “You’re thinking about it again, aren’t you?”
I blushed more. “No,” I lied, hiding my face behind my coffee cup.
His phone suddenly buzzed on the counter, and he picked it up, frowning slightly at whatever message appeared. “Sorry love, I need to handle this real quick. Liam never sleeps.”
I nodded, secretly grateful for the distraction. I needed to get my mind out of the bedroom- or more accurately, off the living room wall where we’d –
My own phone chimed, interrupting my thoughts as an unknown number flashed on my screen. I picked it up and opened the message and my blood ran cold:
“Hey, Lily. Been thinking about you a lot lately. Remember that café where we used to get breakfast at the beginning of every month with my allowance? Walked past it today.”
My hands trembled slightly as I stared at the screen. I deleted his number months ago, but the problem is, his number is stuck in my head. It was Lucas... my ex-mate. Before I could decide how to respond – or whether to respond at all – another message appeared.
“I miss you. Things ended so messily between us. Maybe we could talk? Clear the air? Do you remember what I told you the last time I was in Royal Hunter Pack? I still love you, Lily... I never stopped.”
My heart hammered in my chest. I was acutely aware of Kai across the kitchen, still focused on his phone while absently stirring the eggs. As an Alpha and my mate, he knows when something is up with me emotionally. More like an antenna that picks up anything whenever I’m distressed, so I needed to stay calm.
Don’t panic, I told myself. Just delete the messages and –
Another chime: “I’m feeling lonely right now. Could really use your smile. Can I call you on video and...”
I quickly turned off my phone, perhaps too quickly because the motion caught Kai’s attention. When I looked up, he was studying me intently.
“Everything okay?” he asked. His voice was filled with concern.
“Yeah, of course,” I answered, proud of how steady I kept my voice. I forced a smile that felt stiff on my face. “Just some spam messages.”
Kai tilted his head slightly, the way he did whenever he was trying to read me. The eggs sizzled in the pan, filling the silence between us. “You sure? You look like you could break into a run at any moment.”
“What?” I chuckled dryly, standing up to get plates from the cabinets. “Just hungry,” I deflected. As I reached up, his shirt rode higher on my thighs and I heard his sharp intake of breath. Good – maybe that distraction would work.
But when I turned back around, the concern was still on his face, though it was tinged with desire now. “Lilly...”
“The eggs are burning,” I pointed out quickly.
He turned back to the stove muttering a curse and I let out a silent breath of relief. I’d have to deal with Lucas’s messages eventually – block his number properly this time – but not now. Not in this intimate aftermath with Kai.
Suddenly feeling brave and wanton, I moved behind him, wrapping my arms around his waist and pressing a kiss between his shoulder blades. His muscles relaxed under my touch, though I could still sense his curiosity about my reaction to the phone.
“These might be a little crispy,” he warned, plating the eggs.
“I like them crispy and at this point, you really should remain Alpha for the rest of your life, or else we would starve. You do not know how to do anything else.”
He leaned backwards, catching my lips resting on his shoulder. “I can fuck... does that count.”
I blushed red pushing away from him as if he was electric, drawing an amused laugh from him. “Y-You can’t just say things like that.” I queried.
“What? Fuck?” he arched his brow. “Depends on how you interpret it but judging from your reaction, it’s the other type...”
I smiled awkwardly, pretending to glare at him. “You have no filters, Alpha Kai... absolutely none.”
As we sat down to eat, I decided to focus on the present moment: the taste of the burnt scrambled eggs, the warmth of Kai’s leg pressed against mine and the euphoria to be loved both in words and in action... I refuse to let ghosts from my past haunt this new happiness.
But my turned-off phone seemed to weigh heavier in my pocket. I caught Kai severally watching me with thoughtful eyes when he thought I wasn’t looking.
“More coffee?” he offered, already standing.
“I’ll never get any sleep at this rate. Maybe milk,” I replied.
I’d tell him about Lucas eventually – but on a brighter note, this could be a one-time thing. Since our last encounter on the day I shifted, after he confessed to loving me, I haven’t heard from him since then. So, this could just be a one-time thing. Maybe, I don’t even need to escalate it.
Still, as Kai poured my milk, guilt gnawed at me. But when he leaned down to kiss my temple, his lips lingering with such tenderness, I pushed the guilt aside.
Some conversation could wait for tomorrow and I was wrong about Lucas..., texting that midnight was only the beginning.
