Chapter 139: Chapter 139

Lily POV

"There would have been!" he snapped, his composure cracking for a moment. "We were perfect together. The strongest she-wolf in Golden Moon and its Alpha. It was meant to be."

I stared at him, truly seeing the madness that lurked behind those blue eyes. "Lucas, listen to yourself. This isn’t you. The Lucas I knew would never do something like this.”

His expression softened slightly, and for a moment, I thought I might be getting through to him. Then he smiled, and that glimmer of hope vanished.

"The Lucas you knew was weak," he said. "He thought he could win you back through, respect and patience." He shook his head. "But you’ve shown me that doesn’t work with you. You need a stronger hand."

"This is insane," I said, trying a different approach. "People know where I am. Kai is expecting me at the eastern border. When I don’t show up—"

Lucas laughed again, the sound making my skin crawl. "Oh, I don’t think he’ll be looking for you anytime soon."

The way he said it sent a fresh wave of fear through me. "What did you do to him?"

"Me? Nothing." He shrugged innocently. "But it seems your mate has had quite the reunion. His first love returned from the dead—how touching."

My heart stopped. "What are you talking about?"

He didn’t say anything. His thumb brushed over my bottom lip and I flinched.

“Such sass,” he mused. “You’ve changed a lot, Lily. Although I knew you had this side of you, you were only hiding it.”

I yanked my head away. “If you think I’ll just sit here and let you do whatever sick thing you have planned, you’re wrong.”

He leaned back, crossing his arms. “Oh, I don’t expect you to sit still, Lily. I want you to fight.” His smirk returned, but this time, it was darker, “It’s more fun that way.”

My stomach twisted. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝕨𝕖𝗯𝚗𝚘𝕧𝕖𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝕞

I couldn’t let him control this situation.

I couldn’t let him win.

Taking a deep breath, I met his gaze head-on. “Kai will come for me.”

Lucas’s jaw ticked, but he quickly masked it with a scoff. “Kai doesn’t even remember half of his life. Do you really think he’ll find you in time?”

My heart sank but I tried not to show my fear. How did he know that about Kai?

“He will,” I said firmly. “And when he does, you’ll regret this.”

Lucas regarded me for a moment, then exhaled dramatically. “I suppose we’ll see, won’t we? And as for you and me..." He reached out to touch my cheek, and I jerked away. "You’ll come around. You just need time to remember how good we were together."

"You’re delusional," I snarled. "Even if I wasn’t Kai’s mate, I would never choose someone who thinks kidnapping is an acceptable way to start a relationship."

Something dangerous flashed in his eyes, and for a moment, I thought he might hit me. Instead, he stood up, I could tell he was angry.

"You’ll change your mind," he said coldly. "And if you don’t... well,

Fear gripped my heart, but I refused to let him see it. "My pack will find me. Celeste will find me"

"Your pack doesn’t know you’re on a mission to find your mate’s ex. I’m sure they don’t even know you’re Kai’s mate.” Lucas said with a cruel smile. "Celeste received a text from your phone an hour after you left—apparently you are with Kai and stuff. How thoughtful of you to let her know not to worry and Kai thinks you had a cold feet and won’t be coming again. I made it sound real, don’t worry.”

My stomach dropped. No one was looking for me. No one even knew I was missing.

"Why are you doing this?" I asked, hating how weak my voice sounded. "This isn’t you, Lucas."

Something flickered across his face—a moment of doubt, perhaps—before his expression hardened again. "This is who I had to become after everything. I love you, Lily... I had to become this way because of you. This was the only way I could eer protect you.”

"This is not you protecting me, Lucas. Fine, let me go, I promise I won’t mention a word—"

"Enough!" He cut me off. "I didn’t come in here to argue. I came to tell you how things are going to be." He gestured around the small cabin. "This is your home for now. You’ll be well-fed and unharmed as long as you cooperate."

"And if I don’t?"

His smile made my blood run cold. "You don’t want to test my patience, Lily. I’m trying to be good to you. don’t push it. I beg you.”

He stood, dusting off his pants. “In the meantime, get comfortable, little mate.” His golden eyes gleamed with something wicked. “We have so much catching up to do.”

He turned on his heel and strode toward the door.

I struggled against my bindings, rage and fear colliding inside me. “Lucas—wait—”

He ignored me. When he got to the door...

He paused. "Oh, and don’t bother trying to shift or call for help. No one will hear you and the walls are coated with silver. If you try to shift, you’ll only end up harming your wolf. Your wolf is as trapped as you are."

As if to prove his point, I tried to reach for Hazel – my wolf, that familiar presence always in the back of my mind. There was nothing—just empty silence where that connection should have been.

The door closed behind him with a heavy thud, followed by the click of a lock sliding into place.

I was alone.

For now.

But I refused to give up.

Lucas thought he had won.

He thought he could keep me here.

He thought I was still the same girl he once knew.

But he was wrong.

Because I wasn’t just Lily anymore.

I was a fighter.

And no matter what it took—

I would get out of here.
