Alpha's Hidden Precious Luna-Chapter 133
Kai POV
barely slept after that dream. My mind was a battlefield, torn between the fragments of memories that refused to fit together and the overwhelming sense that I had been played. Manipulated.
By who, I still didn’t know.
But I was damn sure I was going to find out.
The moment the sun rose, I called Lily again to remind her she was supposed to come over to the pack house. She needed to hear this. Maybe if I included her in this pain, she would understand that I wasn’t purposely leaving her out. Plus, she was the only one I could trust right now with this confusion brewing inside me.
She didn’t say much over the phone. Just that she’d be at the pack house the next day.
Now, as I paced back and forth in the main hall, waiting for her, I could feel my wolf clawing beneath my skin. Agitated. Unsettled.
Pieces of my memory had started coming back—bit by bit, like shattered glass trying to form a reflection again. But it was slow, infuriatingly slow.
I needed answers. And I needed them now.
The sound of footsteps had me whipping around.
Lily stood at the doorway, her hazel eyes watching me carefully. She wore a fitted jacket over a black shirt and jeans, her hair pulled back loosely.
Something about seeing her steadied me, even if only slightly.
"Lily, Thank you for coming."
She looked up at me, concern evident in her eyes. "Of course I came. You sounded... different on the phone."
"Different is one way to put it," I muttered, guiding her inside my room with a hand hovering near the small of her back, not quite touching but close enough to feel her warmth.
“So, what’s wrong?”
I exhaled sharply, rubbing a hand down my face. “Yeah. I needed to see you.”
Her gaze softened, and she stepped further inside, her arms crossed. “What’s going on, Kai?”
I didn’t know where to begin, so I started with what haunted me the most.
“I had a dream,” I admitted, my voice coming out rougher than I intended. “It felt like a memory.”
I moved to my desk where papers were scattered across the surface—sketches I’d made frantically since waking up, trying to capture the fragments of memory that had begun to surface.
I continued, shuffling through the papers until I found the one I was looking for. "But it wasn’t just a dream. It was a memory. I’m sure of it."
Lily’s expression shifted, her curiosity evident. “Tell me.”
So I did.
I handed her the sketch of the meadow from my dream, the mountains rising in the background. My artistic skills weren’t great, but I’d captured the essence of the place.
"This is where I stood with her—my first mate. I remember the feeling, Lily. The happiness. The sense of belonging." I ran a hand through my hair, tugging slightly in frustration. "But I still can’t see her face clearly. It’s like looking through frosted glass."
Lily examined the drawing, her expression thoughtful. "And you think this is connected to what my uncle said? About the curse?"
"I know it is." I sank into my chair, suddenly exhausted despite the adrenaline coursing through my veins. "After I woke up, more pieces started coming back. Not complete memories, but flashes. Fragments."
I gestured to the other sketches—a necklace with a peculiar pendant, a small cottage nestled in woods, a book with strange symbols on its cover.
"I called my mother at dawn," I continued. "Asked her to tell me everything she knew about my first mate. The one I thought I’d killed."
Lily’s eyes widened. "You thought you killed her?"
I nodded grimly. "For years, that’s what I believed. That I lost control during my first full moon as Alpha and killed my mate. That’s why I isolated myself from you when I began to become violent. The guilt was... unbearable."
I stood again, unable to remain still with these emotions churning inside me. "But my mother still repeated that’s not what happened. She said my mate didn’t die by my hand. That there was more to the story, but she doesn’t know all of it. That after my mate died in a fire while we were trying to rescue a human, I became different.”
"And then what happened?"
"According to my mother, I was in a dangerous state. My wolf was feral with grief, ready to challenge anything that moved. The pack healer had to sedate me for days." I swallowed hard, remembering my mother’s pained expression as she recounted this over the phone. "When I finally came to, I had no memory of my mate. Just a vague sense that I’d lost someone important, and the conviction that I was responsible for her death."
I met Lily’s gaze, allowing her to see the turmoil inside me. “The pack healer said one of the reasons they had taken my memories away was because they suspected very powerful magic involved because of my erratic behavior. They couldn’t break through them so they just erased everything kind of.”
"Kai," she said softly, "I think I understand now. Why you pushed me away. Why you’ve been fighting our mate bond.”
I nodded, relieved that she understood. "How could I let myself love again when I believed I’d killed the last woman I loved? Even after learning I hadn’t killed her, the fear remained. What if the curse your uncle mentioned is real? What if I’m destined to lose anyone I care about?"
Lily’s eyes lightened. “Wait, there’s something else. Something that might be connected."
She pulled out her phone, scrolling quickly through it before finding what she was looking for. “One time, Celeste’s sent her birds to eavesdrop on your mother and one of the pack healers and these things you just told me now is exactly what they had discussed. But you mentioned something about the she-wolf you had rescued some months back, looking exactly like the woman in your memory when the pack healer had tried to help you remember right?”
My brow furrowed. "Maya? The one who later died of her injuries? I thought she was my mate but my mother said she wasn’t.”
"Yes," Lily nodded eagerly. "Kai, what if it wasn’t a coincidence that you found her? And she looked exactly like the woman from your memories?”
"That’s... possible," I admitted, my mind racing. "I remember feeling strangely drawn to help her, beyond the normal duty to aid an injured wolf. But I never connected it to my past at first until subsequently.”
Lily stepped closer, excitement and concern warring in her expression. "What if finding out about your first mate is the key to breaking this curse? What if all of these things—your lost memories, the pain you’ve been experiencing, the bad luck—what if it’s all connected to her?"
I stared at Lily, something clicking into place. "You might be right. The woman in my dream... she was angry. She said I had promised she was my only mate, my true mate. That I had lied."
A chill ran down my spine as I recalled her final words: You’ll never be happy without me, Kai. Never.
"If she cast this curse," I continued slowly, "then finding out who she was, what really happened between us—that might be the only way to break it."
Lily nodded, her eyes shining with determination. "Then that’s what we’ll do. We’ll find out about your first mate. We’ll learn what really happened."
I looked at her, this woman who had walked into my life and refused to be pushed away despite my best efforts. Who now stood ready to help me face the darkest parts of my past. Hud rumbled with approval inside me.
"It won’t be easy," I warned her. "If my mother went to these lengths to make me forget, she won’t want me remembering." 𝚏𝕣𝕖𝚎𝚠𝚎𝚋𝚗𝐨𝐯𝕖𝕝.𝕔𝐨𝕞
Lily’s mouth curved into a small, determined smile. "I’m not afraid."
I reached out, taking her hand in mine. "I am," I admitted. "But not enough to stop. Not anymore."
Looking into her eyes, I made a silent promise to myself and to her. Whatever darkness lay in my past, I would face it. For my sake, for my pack’s sake—and for the chance at a future that had begun to seem possible only since Lily had entered my life.
"Where do we start?" she asked.
"With the one place I remember clearly," I replied, picking up the sketch of the meadow. "We find this place. And hope it leads us to her."
For the first time in years, I wasn’t just chasing ghosts. I was finally on the path to uncovering the truth.
