Chapter 37: At The Club.

**Cross**

"Cross, it’s so good to see you," Uncle Tom’s wife, Anna, ushered me into the living room as one of their staff members brought my bag inside. "I’ve missed you so much."

I almost rolled my eyes. She was well aware I didn’t like coming here, and she was rubbing it in my face.

"Cross, my boy," Uncle Tom finally made an appearance. He reached for me and enveloped me in a hug. "It’s so good to see you, kiddo."

"Thank you," I replied simply, not bothering to return his smile.

"Razor said you could sleep over and return tomorrow."

"Yes, yes, thank you for the opportunity, Uncle."

His eyes widened in surprise as he wondered if I was being genuine. Truly, I was. Because of him, I had the opportunity to meet up with Kira later tonight.

"There’s something different about you today, Cross?" he wondered aloud, his curious gaze searching my face.

"I don’t understand, Uncle?" I gave a chuckle that sounded anything but genuine. "It’s just been a long time since I last visited, that’s all."

I’ve never really liked uncle Tom. He was always probing my thoughts concerning my brother and how he ran the pack. Plus, when my parents were alive, he was always trying to get close to the pack members and win their hearts. My brother thinks I’m being paranoid, but I swear he’s weird.

"Alright, Anna, show him to his room. I’ll see you later, Cross," he said, gently pushing me towards her before heading out.

I nodded, watching as he left the house. I started walking upstairs, but Anna pulled me back gently, making me turn around.

"Alright, tell me what’s going on?"

I raised a brow in question. "I don’t understand."

She crossed her arms over her chest, giving me a suspicious glare. "You’re always looking depressed whenever you come to visit us, but today... today you’re a little bit relaxed."

I scoffed, shaking my head. "And is that a bad thing, Anna?"

"Well, it’s not, but I..."

"It’s been months since I last visited, that’s all. I kinda miss it here." I lied, trying to brush off her scrutiny.

She tilted her head sideways to get a closer look at my face. "I mean it Anna."

"Alright, if you say so." I watched as she flipped her blonde hair and brushed past me. "Come on, let’s go."

She’s so fucking nosy and annoying. She doesn’t even behave like the wife of a beta. No wonder her husband treats her like a child. I sighed and followed her to the guest room, eager to escape to be alone.

"Here you go, Cross," Anna said with a forced cheerfulness as she opened the door to the guest room. "I hope you find everything to your liking."

"Thank you, Anna," I replied, mustering a sarcastic smile before stepping into the room. It was familiar yet foreign. I’ll never get used to being here.

Alone in the room, I let out a sigh of relief, finally free from the scrutinizing gaze of Anna. Her presence made me feel like I was walking on thin ice, careful not to say or do anything that will give my plans away.

As I unpacked my bag, my thoughts drifted to Kira, the only reason I was happy to endure this uncomfortable place. I can’t wait to see her tonight.

I didn’t bother to go downstairs, preferring to remain in the room, chatting on the phone with Kira. I was so engrossed that I didn’t even realize it was already evening when Uncle Tom came to knock on the door to invite me for dinner.

After dinner, Uncle Tom left to take care of things. He always went out during the night and returned during the midnight hours, after making sure our territory was safe from any intruders or rogues.

I made my way upstairs and quickly entered the bathroom for a quick shower. Afterwards, I put on faded jeans, a leather jacket, and sneakers, all set to go. My ringtone suddenly went off. I reached for my phone on the headboard, my heart racing when I saw my brother’s name on the screen.

I panicked, pacing around, trying to calm my racing heartbeat. But before I could pick it up, the call ended. My brother is going to kill me for not answering the call.

Thankfully, the ringtone went off again, and my finger picked up the call before I could even process anything.

Drawing in a deep breath, I answered, "He... hello, brother."

"Why didn’t you answer at first?" His voice was firm and left no room for excuses.

"I... I was inside the bathroom. I’m sorry, brother." I held my breath nervously, hoping he bought the lie.

"Are you sure, Cross?"

"Yes, sir."

"Has Tom left already?"

"Yes, brother, not too long ago."

"Alright, I hope you’re alright there?"

"Yes, sir, it’s all good. I’m inside my room now." I ground my teeth together nervously.

"See you tomorrow then." He sighed and added, "Better don’t leave that house tonight. Am I clear?"

"Yes, sir." I nodded nervously into the phone, realizing I was digging my own grave at this point.

As soon as he cut the call, I slouched on the bed, letting out a relieved sigh. This was such a bad idea, but I had already promised Kira I’d meet her. Glancing at my phone’s screen, I saw a message from Kira. She was waiting for me at the club already.

With my mind made up, I stood up from the bed and went to the open window. As I slipped out the window, the cool night air hit me, sending a shiver down my spine. I landed gracefully on the soft grass below, my heart pounding rapidly. It was easy to evade the guards; they weren’t many and were busy chatting among themselves. I just had to make sure I returned before Uncle Tom came back or Anna noticed my absence.

Next, I took a cab and arrived at the nightclub. The darkness of the night cloaked my movements as I made my way towards the club where Kira was waiting. With each step, I couldn’t shake off the terrifying feeling gnawing at me. I knew I was disobeying my brother’s orders, and will probably fucking regret it if he ever finds out.

When I got to the entrance I pulled up my fake ID and showed the bouncer, he gave me a skeptical look. Probably trying to confirm if I was actually 21 like my ID said. Kira was actually the one who gave me this fake ID the last time we met at our college party then. We were supposed to go clubbing together for the first time, but I obviously couldn’t make it because of my brother. Thankfully the bouncer bought, clearing the path for me to enter.

Inside the club, the pulsating beat of music blasted loud . The neon lights illuminated the entrance, casting colorful shadows on the pavement. The club was alive with energy I must say. The air was thick with the scent of sweat and alcohol, and people were having fun on the dance floor.

I scanned the crowd, searching for Kira. She was standing at the bar with a drink in hand, her blue eyes sparkling with excitement. She spotted me and waved, a smile spreading across her lips. Relief washed over me as I made my way towards her, weaving through the throngs of people.

"Hey," she said as I reached her side, leaning in to give me a quick kiss on the cheek. "Glad you could make it."

"Yeah, me too," I replied, trying to sound relaxed despite the nervous fluttering in my stomach. "This place is packed."

"I know, right," she smiled, wrapping her arms around my shoulders. "Come with me."

I followed her lead, my heart racing with anticipation as we stopped in front of a door. Before I knew it, she attacked me with a delicious kiss that sent my whole body on fire. I wrapped my arm around her waist, pulling her body closer as I wanted to consume her whole.

Fuck! I needed her badly.
