If only I were truly a man...

...

The light from the pile of firewood inside the Daoist Temple was dim and heavy.

Su Bei gently wiped the two swords in the Sword Box, feeling the new stream of energy wandering through his body, and murmured to himself, "The sword needs nurturing."

He was already proficient with the Qingping Sword, but his control over the Missing Departure still lacked significantly.

All the myriad laws of the world, despite their changes, do not deviate from their fundamental principles. What countless cultivators have sought since ancient times is still that great longevity which allows one to defy death. Only a cultivator who achieves minor longevity truly deserves the title of 'Immortal', having just begun to 'Achieve Dao'. For a Sword Cultivator, the sword nurtures the person, and the person nurtures the sword. While there's no such exaggeration as achieving true oneness with the sword, one must at least nurture a Sword Spirit to reach the pinnacle of cultivation.

A Sword Spirit that belongs to oneself.

Su Bei slowly closed his eyes. His entire Dantian Knowledge Sea fully opened, his soul drifting out and merging with the heaven and earth around him, and he saw himself sitting cross-legged.

His soul wound around the Missing Departure once, then returned to his body.

Touching the sword again, he could feel it was somewhat more intimate than a moment before.

Seeing this, Su Bei nodded with satisfaction, then grabbed the Longsword, skewered a piece of pork, and roasted it over the fire, saying, "The sword has been well-nurtured."

Missing Departure: "..."

The Flower Bright Moon was shrouded in a light mist.

Footsteps approached lightly from behind Su Bei, and within the flickering firelight, a familiar wisp of white gauze could be vaguely seen.

There was no moon in the sky, and everything around seemed a bit dim.

The corners of Su Bei's mouth curled into a smile. Without looking back, he embraced the woman by the waist and laughed, "Ji Baoer, why have you come back alone?"

"Tell me! Where did you leave Zi Jun?"

"..."

As he spoke, the atmosphere grew heated. He pressed down on her, his touch tracing her earlobes... following the curves of her body.

Li Zijun's eyes were wide open, her mind blank, as Su Bei effortlessly pulled her close.

Feeling his practiced hands moving over her body, she was unable to think for a moment.

She had just bathed, her body still fragrant, a romantic ambiance lingering inside the Daoist Temple.

Her complexion gradually turned rosy. It was unclear whether this was due to the awkwardness of the situation or because his hand was holding her wrist.

Su Bei frowned slightly, starting to realize that something was amiss.

Ji Baoer's figure should be fuller here... and she wouldn't feel this tender and inexperienced. He could even feel the woman beneath him trembling.

"Master... Master."

Li Zijun finally recovered from her shock, her small hands frantically pushing at Su Bei, nervously saying, "I'm not Sister Nan Ji... I'm Zi Jun..."

"..."

Her words carried a hint of grievance. She turned to the side, biting her lip.

Su Bei was startled for a moment, leaning over to gaze at the woman before him in disbelief.

What had he done that was worse than a beast?

The atmosphere turned awkward. Su Bei wanted to comfort her by patting her head but feared this gesture might lead to a misunderstanding. His hand froze in midair as he swallowed hard.

"My disciple, your master didn't know it was you..."

"You were wearing your master's wife's clothes, and the firelight was dim..."

Li Zijun mumbled a low response, her facial expression unclear.

"Master... could you please get off?"

"..."

Su Bei gave her an awkward smile, then gently stood up, touched his nose, and after a moment, said, "Your master truly didn't know..."

With that, he grabbed her slender wrist, intending to help her to her feet.

The firelight flickered, casting shadows on their troubled faces.

For some reason, looking at Li Zijun's crystal-clear, jade-like face, Su Bei felt an impulse rising within him, and his heart began to race.

Compared to Nan Ji, his actions just now had been far from gentle, and Li Zijun's response to his touch was vastly different.

But her gentleness, coupled with a subtle, almost imperceptible distance, stirred a strange sensation in Su Bei.

Seemingly forgetting the prior awkwardness, Su Bei still lifted his hand and tentatively slid two fingers across Li Zijun's face.

He paused for a moment and finally touched her smooth, jade-like cheek.

Li Zijun's delicate frame shivered slightly. Through her brilliant, star-like eyes, she managed to create a small gap between them. This time, she did not react violently, closing her eyes, allowing Su Bei to gently caress her beautiful face with his two fingers.

Gentle as jade.

Suddenly, Su Bei saw pearl-like teardrops slide from the corners of Li Zijun's eyes down her snow-white cheeks.

The flickering firelight reflected two trails of tears.

Su Bei's hand paused, then gently slid to Li Zijun's soft chin, lifting it to gaze at her exquisitely beautiful face.

With two fingers, he gently wiped away her tears and said softly, "I'm sorry."

"Master..."

Li Zijun's eyes met Su Bei's, her beautiful eyes brimming with tears.

She did not know why she was crying.

Was it because of his offense? Or because there was no possible future between them?

Seeing the momentary bewilderment in his eyes, Li Zijun didn't know how to react.

Was it helplessness?

"Flowers in the mirror, the moon in the water."

Li Zijun tilted her head slightly, then her lips curled into a smile, hiding the last tear in her eyes, "Your disciple doesn't blame you, Master."

"Sister Nan Ji gave me this dress. That's why you mistook me for her, Master."

"..."

Su Bei gave her an embarrassed smile, suppressing the terrible thought that had just surged within him.

Why are all the disciples I've taken on so odd? Each one seems to have shared long years with me; there's always this indescribable emotion involved.

Just then, the door opened.

Ji Nanjue, now in a different outfit, walked in. She surveyed the scene with a peculiar expression.

Barefoot, she sat down beside Su Bei and wiped away the water droplets near him from her recent bath.

A flicker of confusion crossed her eyes. Usually, he would have flung himself at me. Why is he so composed today? What happened between them while I was away? The atmosphere is so strange.

"Husband, what's wrong? You seem distracted."

Su Bei smiled at her, then held Ji Nanjue in his arms.

In Su Bei's embrace, Ji Nanjue sensed his complex emotions. She tilted her head and planted a kiss on the corner of his mouth.

She had been thinking a great deal. She knew the path ahead was long and arduous. The world was heartless, which would make their journey together extraordinarily difficult. Yet, this moment of tranquility brought her deep satisfaction.

Gradually, her mindset began to shift.

Not seeking to be together every dawn and dusk, but cherishing having once held each other.

"It's nothing."

"It's late; we should sleep..." Su Bei touched her hair.

Ji Nanjue stood up, took the distracted Li Zijun's hand, and carefully examined her own dress that Li Zijun was wearing, nodding.

"Zi Jun, you look quite good in this dress..."

Li Zijun's face flushed red.

Then Ji Nanjue glanced at Su Bei and said, feigning a cold tone, "To punish you, you'll sleep outside tonight, and I'll cuddle with Zi Jun."

"Right, Zi Jun?" She winked at Li Zijun.

Li Zijun was taken aback. She looked up at Su Bei, then at Ji Nanjue beside her, and said, somewhat reluctantly, "That's not very good... It looks like it's going to rain outside."

Su Bei knew Nan Ji was giving him an out, as she had likely sensed the earlier awkwardness.

His heart warmed at the thought, and he looked at Ji Nanjue, "I'll go outside then..."

Just then, faint footsteps were heard nearby.

The unexpected noise made everyone frown instantly. Su Bei voiced his confusion, "Who could be walking around at this late hour?"
